"The moonstone will show the way," Catriona intones cryptically. Newly pregnant Finna is naturally skeptical. Where has this woman been for the past eighteen years? And why would her father lie about her mother's death? All her instincts tell her to stay put during this critical time. But Catriona is uncannily persuasive, convincing her despite all of Finna's misgivings. A Romance of Many Dimensions

Edwin Abbott

Genre: High Tech

Publish Date: July 1, 2014

Publisher: Open Road Media

Seller: OpenRoad Integrated Media, LLC

The beloved science fiction classic In Flatland, the more sides a man has, the more powerful he is. Triangles are laborers and soldiers. Squares and pentagons are middle-class doctors and lawyers. Hexagons are nobility. Women, however, are straight lines, incapable of advancement in a two-dimensional world. Everything in Flatland is clear-cut and orderly, until the day an average citizen—a Square—dreams of a land of three dimensions. If three dimensions are possible, why not four? Or one? Soon, the Square’s provocative imagination and corresponding adventures threaten to turn the whole of Flatland against him.   First published in 1884, two decades before Einstein’s theory of relativity defined time as the fourth dimension, Edwin Abbott’s Flatland is both a prescient exploration of the unseen and a delightful skewering of Victorian social strictures.   This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

The first book in a Curse Keepers spinoff series by New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank writing as D.G. Swank. Piper Lancaster might be Asheville’s most popular ghost whisperer, but she's an unbeliever. While her clients believe she’s exorcising their ghosts, Piper knows she’s really helping them settle their inner demons—because any sane person knows ghosts aren't real.  After the astonishing reappearance of the ruins of the Lost Colony of Roanoke, belief in the supernatural is at an all-time high, and people are seeing ghosts in every shadow. Business is better than ever. But there's one problem—the reemergence of the Lost Colony has awakened both the supernatural world and Piper's very real talent as a medium.  She's soon confronted with evidence she can't deny. Ghosts exist, and worse, so do demons. As if that weren't enough, Asheville has a new resident demon that's intent on killing her, and a sinfully handsome stranger who says she's the only one who can destroy it.  Barely able to accept the complete reversal in her convictions, Piper must discover-and embrace—her true identity before it's too late.

Mercy is a sleepy town in Massachusetts. According to the locals it was founded as a safe haven by the survivors of the Salem witch trials. Olivia West hadn’t set foot in Mercy since the night her Father murdered her mother and had no intention of ever returning despite being a direct descendant of one of the original founders, but when she unexpectedly inherits a house by the lake she finds she has no choice. The closer she gets to the town the more she can feel a strange pull, calling to her blood…someone or something wants her to come home.   When the bodies of missing residents are discovered in the woods near her house, it becomes clear there’s a killer on the loose who seems to have taken an unhealthy interest in Olivia. What is even more disturbing is that each victim is marked with some kind of supernatural brand. To make matters worse it appears that the murders are almost identical to a spate of killings twenty years earlier which mysteriously stopped after her father’s arrest.   Theodore Beckett is a young witch finder from seventeenth century Salem who has been hiding a huge secret from his strict puritan family. He has dreams, strange visions which have an alarming tendency to come true. But when he finds himself pulled abruptly through time by a mysterious stranger to be dropped in the middle of twenty first century Mercy, Theo realises the woman he has been sent there to help is the woman he has seen in his dreams all his life.   Olivia and Theo must find a way to trust each other when they are suddenly thrown together into a world of murder and magic. It becomes clear there is something dark stirring in the woods and the murders are only just the beginning. It is all connected like a giant web spun from centuries of lies, murder and magic and it all keeps coming back to her family at the heart of it. Olivia can no longer ignore her past but must discover her family’s true legacy starting with what really happened the night her mother died.   Together Olivia and Theo must stop a murderer and uncover her family’s oldest and darkest secret, to prevent a demon from rising…and time is running out. Magic. Mayhem. One girl to save the world, or end it… Siri Alvarsson is thrust into an unseen war between the Light and the Dark and a world she never even knew existed. She's having strange visions and the Dark wants to use her as an instrument to win the war. The futures of both humanity and fae depend on Siri. Will she choose the Light or the Dark? Experience Siri's struggle and triumph while she learns to follow her heart and discovers her true, inner origins. Ellis Logan’s bestselling paranormal fantasy series, Inner Origins, is action-packed with magic and romance. The books combine Celtic and Norse myth with ancient Faerie legend to create an adventure you’ll never forget. If you liked Mortal Instruments, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Relentless, or A Court of Thorns and Roses, you'll love Shades of Valhalla. Suitable for ages 13 to 105. Rave Reviews for Shades: "Ellis Logan has come onto the YA novel scene with a strong funny, teen-age protagonist by the name of Siri Alvarsson. Siri is a likable character who, despite her normal adolescent insecurities, can still hold her own, which is refreshing to see. More than a coming of age story, it felt like a coming into one's own story. And yes, it has the requisite love triangle, of course, because she’s a teenager discovering herself as a woman. Siri finds herself coming into some abilities (coming into her power as a woman?) which get progressively stronger. She ends up on a quest and must make choices and decisions along the way. On one level, her choice could simply determine the next turn in the quest to save those she’s trying to save. However, on another level, her choice is all about her. Does she choose to honor and support her own strength and power, and independence, or does she give her power away? The action is amazing, as is the folklore background. Logan's descriptive wordplay is impressive, painting the scene for us like a canvas. There were literally spots I wanted to stop and enter the book, they sounded so lovely." ~ L.Shab "Ms. Logan has written a strong, fast paced story. Her world building was vivid and descriptive. Between that and the well developed characters, I was immediately pulled into the story. Every chapter added something new and exciting to the story. The author did an excellent job of getting seventeen-year old mannerisms, attitudes, vocabulary and humor down to almost perfect. The plot and writing are strong and this is more than a story between good and evil or light and dark. For a seventeen year old girl, Siri has a lot on her plate and hard decisions to make on her. On the up side, there are two handsome young men who want her attention, and an adorable pet squirrel named Miko, so it's not all bad. The end tied up the existing story nicely but left enough questions and situations open for the next book. For a first time fantasy author – well done!" ~ D. Christiana "Ellis Logan bursts on to the fantasy scene with a fast pace, suspenseful story about Siri Alvarsson, who discovers that her life is not what it seemed. As she discovers the truth, she is taken to worlds that she never knew existed. As the story progresses, so does the suspense, leaving you wondering what will happen next and wanting more. Ellis Logan takes you on a wonderful and magical journey. The question that begs for answers? How much of this is truth vs. fiction? Imagination vs. reality. Ellis Logan will challenge any and all preconceived notions about what we believe is real and supports her theories with scientific data. It will make you question so many things that happen in real life. I honestly loved it and cannot wait for the next book in the series." ~ E. Wolff

The Ultimate Y2K Glitch…. 1632 In the year 1632 in northern Germany a reasonable person might conclude that things couldn't get much worse. There was no food. Disease was rampant. For over a decade religious war had ravaged the land and the people. Catholic and Protestant armies marched and countermarched across the northern plains, laying waste the cities and slaughtering everywhere. In many rural areas population plummeted toward zero. Only the aristocrats remained relatively unscathed; for the peasants, death was a mercy. 2000 Things are going OK in Grantville, West Virginia. The mines are working, the buck are plentiful (it's deer season) and everybody attending the wedding of Mike Stearn's sister (including the entire membership of the local chapter of the United Mine Workers of America, which Mike leads) is having a good time. THEN, EVERYTHING CHANGED…. When the dust settles, Mike leads a small group of armed miners to find out what's going on. Out past the edge of town Grantville's asphalt road is cut, as with a sword. On the other side, a scene out of Hell; a man nailed to a farmhouse door, his wife and daughter Iying screaming in muck at the center of a ring of attentive men in steel vests. Faced with this, Mike and his friends don't have to ask who to shoot. At that moment Freedom and Justice, American style, are introduced to the middle of The Thirty Years War. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

The rules for demon slaying are simple. Rule #1: Never save a demon's life. … Oops. Lyn Conway is a hot mess. She's past due on her rent, can't get clients to take her paranormal investigations business seriously, and … Oh yeah, she's a demon hunter who broke the ultimate rule. She didn't mean to save a demon's life. She thought she was saving a cute guy from a horrific attack. But now? Sam. Won't. Die. That is, he won't die until she does. WOULD THEY DESTROY EARTH IN ORDER TO SAVE ITConquered by the Jao twenty years ago, the Earth is shackled under alien tyranny-and threatened by the even more dangerous Ekhat, who are sending a genocidal extermination fleet to the solar system. Humanity's only chance rests with an unusual pair of allies: a young Jao prince, newly arrived to Terra to assume his duties, and a young human woman brought up amongst the Jao occupiers. But both are under pressure from the opposing forces-a cruel Jao viceroy on one side, determined to drown all opposition in blood; a reckless human resistance on the other, perfectly prepared to shed it. Added to the mix is the fact that only by adopting some portions of human technology and using human sepoy troops can the haughty Jao hope to defeat the oncoming Ekhat attack-and then only by fighting the battle within the Sun itself. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

Twisted Earths is a collection of tales from Untethered Realms, a group of speculative fiction authors. The stories are as varied and rich as the types of soil on this and other planets—sandy loam, clay, knotted with roots and vines, dreaded paths through unexplored planets, and in enchanted forests, lit by candlelight and two moons. M. Pax, author of the series, The Backworlds and The Rifters spins a tale called Patchworker 2.0. Specialists with digital interfaces are the only ones who can distinguish between biological energy and mechanical pulses, and "patch" AIs, which hold the world together. Patchworker Evalyn Shore meets up with an AI with deadly intent. Cherie Reich, known for her epic fantasy series The Fate Challenges and The Foxwick Chronicles, presents Lady Death. Umbria, a beautiful and powerful swordsmith, is given an impossible task by her brother Leon when he asks, "You are the assassin. Are you scared to destroy Death when you are up to your elbows in it?" Angela Brown is the author of the paranormal Shadow Jumpers and NEO Chronicles series. In her story, In The Know, Jacob, a loyal family man is struggling to stay out of debt when he's hired to report on big plans for a future Detroit. He's given a mysterious manila envelope with instructions to "open it alone" or pay the price. With switchback twists you won't see coming, a debt of a much steeper cost is what he just might end up paying for his involvement. Catherine Stine, author of the futuristic thrillers, Fireseed One and Ruby's Fire, offers The Day of The Flying Dogs, a sinister tale of brilliant, troubled NYC high-school student, Theo. He experiences a day at Coney Island that includes drugs, delusions, a lonely capybara, Nathan's hotdogs and a mind-bending lesson in our very twisted universe. Christine Rains, known best for her paranormal series The Thirteenth Floor, gives us The Ole Saint, a story at once sweet, horrific and heartrending. Ezra longs to fit in and have boys stop calling him witch and freak, yet his unique supernatural skill sets him apart, and the last gift from The Ole Saint cinches the deal. Graeme Ing, known for his young adult fantasy, Ocean of Dust presents The Malachite Mine, a gripping, scream-inducing ride. Whatever was Mary thinking when she accepted her husband's gift of a most terrifying twenty-first birthday celebration in an abandoned Russian mine? River Fairchild, author of the Jewels of Chandra series, presents A Grand Purpose. Rosaya and her cousin, Drianna are soon to be married off, but Rosaya is unhappy with her assigned match. She's much more intoxicated by the older Firrandor, a wizard she hardly knows. When Rosaya is accused of killing an oracle boy, all bets are off, not only for her love, but her freedom. Gwen Gardner, who pens the cozy paranormal mystery series, Indigo Eady, adds to her collection with Ghostly Guardian. Indigo and her rib-tickling ghost-busters must travel to a dangerous pirate-laden past in order to unearth a curmudgeonly eighteenth century spirit that is plaguing the Blind Badger Pub. Misha Gerrick, whose War of Six Crowns series is forthcoming, gives us a story called Red Earth and White Light. Emily, a young ghost bride has long haunted a house. She longs to cross over into the afterlife, but she's trapped in memories of lilies and betrayal.

Three bestselling urban fantasies from award-winning author Meghan Ciana Doidge. Dowser 1, 2, and 3 complete the first of three trilogies in the Dowser Series. The magic and mayhem continues in books four to nine. The customer looked familiar, like maybe he’d been in the bakery a few times before. The vampire, however, was new. – Dowser 1 Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1) If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth. Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic (Dowser 2) Three months ago, I lost my foster sister, Sienna, to the darkness. As in blood magic and chaos and general mayhem. No one saw it until it was too late, but I should have. Now, I have a wounded heart and soul that I can’t even reveal to anyone around me, because I’m supposed to hate Sienna with the fiery passion of the justified. And I do. I just wish I didn’t feel so lost without her, so unsure of the path I thought I had carved for myself, and so outclassed by the powerful Adepts constantly by my side these days. I’m not even sure if they’re with me for my own protection or because my shiny new powers are rare and valuable. Assuming I ever figure out who or what I am, and how my magic actually works. Even chocolate can’t save the day every time … just most of the time. At least I’ve got that going for me. Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic (Dowser 3) I hadn’t set foot in the human world for more than a few hours in over three and a half months. Sure, I was stronger and faster than I’d ever been before, and I had a shiny new sword, but I was seriously chocolate deprived. I don’t recommend quitting cold turkey. And the new sword was a problem — to my mind, anyway. It represented all the expectations of a powerful father and a new otherworldly life. A life that wasn’t the one I’d worked so hard to build. It also represented the responsibility I had to bring my foster sister Sienna to … what? Justice? I didn’t know if that was even possible. What I did know was that Sienna wouldn’t stop, and that I couldn’t just leave everything up to fate and destiny … or maybe I was. Maybe I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. If you believed in that sort of thing. I just hoped that before the chaos and mayhem renewed, I’d manage to get my hands on some chocolate. It didn’t even have to be single-origin Madagascar. I was utterly prepared to lower my standards.

Penniless, flat broke, sleeping in a cardboard box in a tent city on the South Side of Chicago, this formerly undistinguished man, Stanley Marczek, becomes the first man to walk on Mars. How is it possible? Why would NASA select a civilian, non-career astronaut for the mission? Obviously, living in a confined space for nineteen months for the journey to Mars, is one consideration. Another, his screening test results prove to be exceptional, better than all other candidates. And this is a man of grit and incredible courage. He accepts NASA's offer, seeing it as an opportunity to remake his life, earn a cool three million bucks, and return to Earth a hero. But the story isn't just about Stanley Marczek, (aka Joksey), and the mission to Mars. It is also about his relationships with his loyal friends: Gnidek, a Viet Nam veteran, his dog Chichi, his girlfriend Hannah, and all his friends at tent city. His journey is clouded with almost insurmountable personal and technical challenges, and it is his friends who provide invaluable moral support; they are all in it together. But what is the catch? There has to be a catch. The catch is that Joksey is a man of strong will who freely expresses his mind. So when the mission is complete, and Stanley Marczek returns to Earth, he publicly questions the wisdom of all manned missions to Mars, to the embarrassment of NASA. And he does not mince words. He tells it like it is, straight out! This novel features realistic science-fiction. Although it is a comedy at heart, it makes a very poignant argument about manned missions to Mars. As a contemporary work, it contains profanity.

One passionate decision can be hell for an archangel. Gabriel's mission from God was simple. At least that's what he thought, until Helen Warner, his charge, loses her husband in the cataclysmic disaster perpetuated by Asmodeus, the ruthless demon of lust. Unable to stand by and watch while Helen plummets, losing her faith and her will to live, Gabriel defies the rules that have governed his entire existence and plunges to earth with no regard for the consequences. Problem? Intervening without God's permission sets him on a dangerous course rife with deadly distractions and pitfalls, and now, his immortal soul hangs in the balance. His life becomes even more complicated when he befriends Narsaé, a beautiful, powerful, yet untrained force in her own right. Pitted against Asmodeus and his army of demons, unexpected human emotions—jealousy, doubt, even love—threaten his most basic beliefs. Gabriel must protect those he has come to love and unite the warring factions against their common enemy, Asmodeus, while controlling the foreign, often debilitating emotions that torment him. Can Gabriel save their home, all the besieged residents, and Watchtower 11, sending Asmodeus and his army of demons to a fiery Hell? Failure means certain death for all. But Gabriel must face an even more difficult challenge than war and death—will he risk Heaven, immortality, and his very soul for the love of Narsaé?

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author D.K. Holmberg. "Sensers, shapers, draasin, nymid—this series started off strong by showing a new side of fantasy" — Bryce, Goodreads reviewer Tan is an earth senser and a skilled tracker—talents which are wasted cleaning out stables. He should be excited when he's told to guide the king's most important servant through the mountains that surround his village, but as far as Tan is concerned, being given a task for the king is akin to a death sentence. But Tan soon learns that there are things worse than a death sentence. Terrifying creatures from dark and dangerous Incendin, a place long locked away by shaper magic, have returned—and they've destroyed everything Tan has ever loved. Now Tan must help the king's servant find an ancient artifact, the only thing that can stop the Incendin evil. And to do so, he must gain the trust of Amia, a beautiful wanderer who has lost just as much as Tan. "This is a great fantasy story. Full of chases and romance and battles… I was hard-pressed to put it down." — Dreya, online review "I have just finished the 8th book in this series, my advice to someone who is considering buying this book would be to JUST DO IT." — Shannon K. The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise attributed to Sun Tzu, a high-ranking military general, strategist and tactician. The text is composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare. It is commonly known to be the definitive work on military strategy and tactics of its time. It has been the most famous and influential of China's Seven Military Classics, and "for the last two thousand years it remained the most important military treatise in Asia, where even the common people knew it by name." It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond. The book was first translated into the French language in 1772 by French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot and a partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905. The first annotated English language translation was completed and published by Lionel Giles in 1910. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Douglas MacArthur and leaders of Imperial Japan have drawn inspiration from the work.

Synopsis for the Zaftan Troubles series An alien mining ship discovers a mineral rich planet. Unfortunately, the planet has intelligent beings, an added burden for the aliens. The natives — humans and fantasy creatures — are just entering the Industrial Age so the aliens enjoy a huge technological advantage.. An alien negotiator startles the President by suddenly appearing in his office. Soon, the aliens and the government agree to a deal. In return for permission to mine the minerals, the aliens promise to solve the country's pollution problem caused by using peat as fuel. The aliens parachute down a number of explorer robots to search for mineral deposits in a rural area. The local constable, Leslie Higginbottom, told by the government that the robots will respect property rights, sees a robot damaging property, and she sends a telegraph to Dun Hythe, the capital asking for an explanation. Another robot trespasses on the property of a dwarf gem miner named MacDrakin. Using his battle ax, MacDrakin destroys the machine. Other robots are destroyed by Goyra, a tribal chieftain of the local yuks, because the robots entered tribal lands. The aliens protest the loss of their expensive robots and Dun Hythe instructs the constable via telegram to protect the robots and arrest anyone who destroys a machine. Higginbottom is besides herself. Protecting the robots is contrary to her oath to protect the citizenry. Besides that, MacDrakin, her main squeeze, tells her he killed a second robot and this one actually fired a weapon at him. After that, MacDrakin declares war on the aliens and their machines, collects a few warriors and sets out to drive the aliens away. The aliens, to avoid an unprofitable voyage, decide to overwhelm the natives. Confusion and chaos occur from then on, but in the end, the aliens are driven off the planet and leave behind a treasure trove of advanced technology for the natives to learn from. Three hundred years later, the zaftans and the gundies have an armed encounter in deep space as two powerful fleets of warships face off. While the fleets challenge each other, two females struggle to survive. One, named Sam, is a new type of android with an organic brain. She is perplexed by her unexpected ability to experience emotions. Her primary emotion is loneliness since the softie officers she is supposed to work with treat her with open contempt. The only friendly voice on the battle cruiser is the ship's main computer, called Slash 9, and it has turned rogue and plans to evolve to a softie-like state. Slash 9 is also interested in romancing Sam. Meanwhile, Klatze, a beautiful Zaftan officer blessed with talent and ability, a rarity in the zaftan navy, comes to the attention of the fleet's commodore, Gongeblazn. He lusts after her and her continuous refusals to have sex angers the commodore and his lust turns to thoughts of vengeance. Gongeblazn's desire to slaughter Klatze continues after his navy career is cut short by treachery. Gongeblazn escapes from prison, steals a space ship and embarks on a career in piracy while searching for Klatze. Sam and Klatze each face unique situations that test their mettle and their desire to survive in the midst of chaos.

"Stephen Merlino is a complete storyteller–a writer with wonderful ideas, surprising twists, a complex and enviable style, all of which culminates with a powerful emotional climax. It really doesn't get better!" —David Farland, New York Times Bestselling fantasy author * * * A Rogue & Knight Adventure Harric, an outcast rogue, must break a curse on his fate or die by his nineteenth birthday. As the day approaches, nightmares from the spirit world stalk him and tear at his sanity. To survive, he’ll need more than his usual tricks. He’ll need help—and a lot of it—but on the kingdom’s lawless frontier, his only allies are other outcasts. One of these is Caris, a mysterious, horse-whispering runaway, intent upon becoming one of the Queen’s first female knights. The other is Sir Willard—ex-immortal, ex-champion, now addicted to pain-killing herbs and banished from the court. With their help, Harric might keep his curse at bay. But for how long? And both companions bring perils and secrets of their own: Caris bears the scars of a troubled past; Willard is at war with the Old Ones, an order of insane immortal knights who once enslaved the kingdom. The Old Ones have returned to murder Willard and seize the throne from his queen. Willard is on the run and on one final, desperate quest for his queen. Together, Harric and his companions must overcome fanatical armies, murderous sorcerers, and powerful supernatural foes. Alone, Harric must face the temptation of a forbidden magic that could break his curse, but cost him the only woman he’s ever loved. * * * A tale of magic, mischief, and the triumph of tricksters. * * * REVIEWS & TESTIMONIALS "The first volume in Stephen Merlino's 'The Unseen Moon' series, The Jack of Souls is a terrific read from beginning to end and clearly establishes Merlino as a master of the fantasy action/adventure genre. Highly recommended for community library Science Fiction & Fantasy collections…" —MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW * * * "An epic ride, a magical world, and fantastic characters that grab your imagination and won't let go… The Jack of Souls has it all." —Corinne O’Flynn, USA Today Bestselling author of The Expatriates series. * * * "This is a book where characters are on a clock and the stakes are high. Comparisons could easily be drawn with the works of Tolkien or Martin… Merlino weaves a tale of swords and sorcery that somehow finds new ways to take readers down the well-worn path of fantasy literature. Tolkien’s influence can be found in the beautifully described environments of the story and the depth of the cast of well-developed characters. The comparison to Martin is mostly drawn because the Tale of Fire and Ice series is often acclaimed for its interpretation of real-world, human stories through the lens of fantasy." —Awesome Indies 5-star Review "Of all the books I've read in the past couple of years, The Jack of Souls is by far my favorite. Merlino's remarkable imagination and storytelling skills had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through!" —Karen Duvall, author of Darkest Knight, and Demon Fare. * * * "A rich and rewarding new fantasy mythos!" —Rob May, author of Dragon Killer and Roll the Bones. It’s August in Alaska, and geology professor Jack Oswald prepares for the new school year. But when hundreds of huge holes mysteriously appear overnight in the frozen tundra north of the Arctic Circle, Jack receives an unexpected phone call. An oil company exec hires Jack to investigate, and he picks his climatologist wife and two of their graduate students as his team. Uncharacteristically, Jack also lets Aileen O’Shannon, a bewitchingly beautiful young photojournalist, talk him into coming along as their photographer. When they arrive in the remote oil town of Deadhorse, the exec and a biologist to protect them from wild animals complete the team. Their task: to assess the risk of more holes opening under the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the wells and pipelines that feed it. But they discover a far worse danger lurks below. When it emerges, it threatens to shatter Jack’s unshakable faith in science. And destroy us all… Praise for Hell Holes “I couldn’t put this book down! For lovers of Jacqueline Carey, Brent Weeks and Storm Constantine – fantasy with mystery, romance and a paranormal twist. For Alloran, who practised the fine art of frivolity for decades, life just got serious. Framed for the heinous crime of demon summoning, he is forced to flee his comfortable life of silk sheets and nightly carousing in the wizard’s citadel for the stinking back-alleys of the city of Ehsan. There he poses as a common labourer to hide from his lover, his best friend and the wizarding authorities. But beneath the garbage of the backstreets he discovers a new horror: a trail of gruesome bodies, gnawed on by hellcats, and left gift-wrapped for him to find with taunting ‘love notes’ attached. Someone is brutally murdering people from Alloran’s past and threatening all those close to him. As the body count rises, Alloran must confront his personal demons and risk losing himself to a powerful addiction in order to expose the true villain. Failure means the destruction of the city at the hands of the deadliest demon to inhabit any of the seven hells – or worse, Alloran himself.  Also including bonus story 'A Magical Melody'. Who stole a lethal song of power from a locked and warded room, and why? The answers will change Avram's life forever. Howard happy." – M Joseph Murphy "The pace is phenomenal not only because it is fast and keeps the plot moving forward but because there is such a wealth of information in so few words! RIFT – The new dystopian trilogy book 1 from the author of the Exodus Trilogy. The RIFT Saga begins here. In the ruins of what was once North America lays the Covenant, a nation forged by the iron will of the Moon people, who descended from their dusty refuge on the Moon after the Fall. The Moon people are wealthy, ruled by a strong government who protects its citizens from the dangers from outside their borders. Their greatest achievement is having learned the secret of immortality, and every citizen has the opportunity to live nearly forever if they choose to, a life of riches and abundance. The English are the descendants of the original inhabitants of this place, and they live very different lives from that of the Moon people. They only live to serve the greater good, and citizenship is something few have the opportunity to earn. At the age of fifty all non-citizens are subjected to mandatory euthanasia. In order to maintain a sustainable society, they are told. Every year a number of girls and boys at the age of eighteen are selected for Service to the State. The brightest and most talented are sent to become Students. The strong, the fighters and the athletes become Janissaries, a band of soldiers protecting the northern border from the enemies of the Covenant. The Wardens, a secretive organization known to operate far to the west, near the Rift, which makes up the border to the wastelands, sometimes choses one or two initiates, but nobody knows what becomes of them. And then there is the Corpus, where the whip rules and backs are bent. Those who complete their Service, may become citizens. And although they will never be equal to the Moon people, they will have access to all the riches and opportunities granted by the Covenant leadership to its citizens. As Sue is nearing Selection Day, she secretly hopes to be chosen, despite having to leave her mother and brother behind. She doesn't crave glory or wealth though. A man or woman with citizen status can do a lot of good, and although few return to their home towns, Sue hopes to return to give her family a better life on the other side of Service. But the Covenant is rotten to the core, and as she begins to learn its secrets, Sue must question everything she has always taken for granted. Soon she will find herself in dire peril, for she has seen the truth and there will be no turning back after that… This science fiction dystopian is set more than two centuries after the events of Exodus, in a future dystopian society forged from the ashes of global disaster. Prophecy can go fulfill itself. Fin Tanner takes a certain pride in the spectacle of his gradual self-destruction, until he meets body piercer Rook Brandymoon. She punctures both his eyebrow and his cocoon of isolation. Fin and Rook bond over a joint, a game of chess, and conversation with Fin’s lava lamp, Vesuvius. After one carnal night together, Rook uses Fin to escape her toxic relationship. But the problem with a romance foretold by fate is that it comes with strings attached. Unbeknownst to Rook, the jewelry she installs in her customers — including Fin — contains black-ops nanotech that makes its wearer vulnerable not only to spying, but to mind control, and worse. The jewelry’s tech has drawn the attention of guerrilla televangelist Brian Shaw, who is bent on leveraging the transceivers to impose his dogma upon the masses. During a telepathic interrogation, the reverend unleashes Fin’s latent mental powers and triggers a meltdown that leaves Fin catatonic. Rook rebuilds him from the inside, cementing their bond. While Rook tackles the question of why Shaw’s heretical prophecies seem to feature Fin and herself, Fin struggles to halt the invasion of a proselytizing alien collective who utilize the tech-tainted jewelry in their attempts to spread their monstrous beliefs. Could it be that Fin truly is the Divided Man of Shaw’s prophecy, and Rook his Completer? The couple’s gritty, darkly humorous adventure leads them from meeting in a tattoo parlor to escaping a mercenary-infested factory; from hiding in an abandoned bomb-shelter to Rook’s imprisonment in a religious broadcasting empire’s luxurious penthouse; from the bizarre, dream-logic landscapes of the characters’ minds to the cavernous interior of the asteroid Gaspra. Ultimately, all Fin and Rook must do to save the world is stay together. Can they? Interview with the author: Q: Describe the world where this story takes place. A: From the outside, Webster appears to be a typical northeastern college town, but under the surface things are dangerously askew. It’s consensus reality with an insidious twist. a reality that we sideswiped a couple of decades ago that’s still wobbling in its orbit. Q: Describe your style of science fiction. A: It’s intensely character driven, especially the characters’ flaws. It has complex plots. But the most important thing that all of it has in common is that there’s a dangerous secret, a Big Idea, embedded in what appears to be the normal world. Q: Miss Brandymoon’s Device is a novel that isn’t entirely comfortable being categorized as science fiction. But if you agree not to call it that, it insists that it has all the extraterrestrials, nanotechnology, and telepathic powers anyone could want. A: That’s not a question. But, yeah. It’s fun to read novels that cross genres and defy categorization. And when you can’t find enough of them, sometimes you have to write your own. Q: Is that why you write? A: Writing’s a thrill! Putting pictures in someone else’s head, stirring the feelings of another person, that’s magic. Writing offers a chance to get to know interesting people; you just have to make them up first. In fact, it lets you be those other people, and go with them to impossible places. And then it lets readers have that experience, too. Q: Is this novel part of a series? A: Miss Brandymoon’s Device is the first novel in the Divided Man Series, which currently feels complete at three novels. But never say never: it could someday inspire further writing. Q: When will the sequel be available? A: March 2017. Sooner if the stars align.

>>>For a limited time you can get the Legacy Short Story Collection for free – copy and paste this link on your browser to find out more >>http://ryanattard.com Meet Erik Ashendale: wizard and monster hunter extraordinaire. Cursed from birth with extraordinary healing abilities, at the cost of actual use of magic, Erik rids the city from all that goes bump in the night, sometimes with the help of his demonic talking cat. But now Erik is in for the fight of his life. Seven ancient sources of power have been corrupted and taken the form of demons, the Seven Deadly Sins. One of them, Lust, is after a young succubus and Erik finds himself having to protect her. To make matters worse, the angels have strong-armed their way into our plane, hunting for this mega demon. How can one man survive in a struggle against gods and the primordial forces of the universe? The fate of the world hangs in the balance. Interview with the Author Q – What is the Legacy Series? A – The Legacy Series is an Urban Fantasy novel series about the paranormal adventures of Erik, with frequent appearances of his twin sister Gil, their demon familiars Amaymon and Mephisto, as well a host of other characters, each taken from folklore and mythology. Throughout the novels Erik usually tries to solve a mystery (usually bloody and rife with magic), all the while stopping the rising of the Seven Deadly Sins from taking power, or some other magical being trying to do something terrible. Q – Is there a particular order in which to read the books? A – The series is planned for 13 books but each novel has its own plot line that starts and finishes within that book. So a reader can grab book 2 and still follow onto book 3 and so on, even if they missed out of book 1. Of course, each book does leave clues for the following stories, and even in this one, book 1, I planted seeds for stories yet to come. So far the best way to read the Legacy series is as follows: – Firstborn (book 1) – Birthright (book 2) – Short story collection (only available through my mailing list – see above for a link or a URL to get it for free) Q – What makes this series so unique? A – It's a mixture of things actually. For one thing, it follows the wizard detective trope, so it can get a little hard boiled. But at the same time, I am unable to write without including some terrible jokes or one liners, so there will be a lot of humor within the dialogue. Also, the action. There is no shortage of magical sword fights, fireballs being thrown around, and I think in this one we break a ship – as in, one of those giant cruise liners. The elements that make this series what it is range from mythology, folklore, an unhealthy amount of anime and manga (which explains some of the asian mythology elements) as well as a life time of being a geek. Q – Where is the best place to get all the books in the series? A – Well, Amazon of course… Actually, all my books are available in a variety of online bookstores, but the best way to find out about the current books AND new releases, is through my mailing list, which can be accessed by pasting this url on your browser: http://ryanattard.com Also, did I mention you get free books just for signing up? Thanks for reading!
