The past season brought the return to American courts of Mrs. May Sutton Bundy and Miss Mary Browne, in itself an event of sufficient importance to set the year apart as one of highest value. The outstanding performances of the two juniors, Vincent Richards and Arnold Jones, must be regarded as worthy of permanent recognition and among the outstanding features of a noteworthy year. Thus it is with a sense of recording history- making facts that I turn to the events of 1921.

Kinsey is a portrait of researcher Alfred Kinsey, driven to uncover the most private secrets of a nation. What begins for Kinsey as a scientific endeavor soon takes on an intensely personal relevance, ultimately becoming an unexpected journey into the mystery of human behavior. Liam Neeson stars as Kinsey, who in 1948 irrevocably changed American culture with his book Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. Interviewing thousands of people about the most intimate aspects of their lives, Kinsey lifted the weight of secrecy and shame from a society in which sexual practices were mostly hidden. His work sparked one of the most intense cultural debates of the past century, a debate that rages on today. Using the technique of his own famous sex interviews, Kinsey recounts the scientist’s extraordinary journey from obscurity to global fame.

Bill Clinton Pinch Hits for Chelsea at Mother’s Day Luncheon

When the pinch hitter at the 40th annual Mother’s Day Luncheon happens to be Bill Clinton, the 42nd U.S. president, one can’t be too disappointed.
His daughter, Chelsea Clinton, one of the recipients of the Outstanding Mother Awards, was stuck in Omaha, Neb., and couldn’t get a plane out, so her father happily obliged to accept the award on her behalf.
Clinton told some endearing stories about his daughter, who is vice chair of the Clinton Foundation.
“Here’s what I’d like you to know about my child. In some ways she had a remarkably privileged upbringing though we weren’t wealthy by conventional standards until I got out of the White House. I had the lowest net worth of any president ever elected since World War II. I was governor for 12 years, but it was always tough,” said Clinton. He explained that Chelsea started reading the newspaper at six years old and he was in a very hot reelection campaign, and she read things that people were saying about him.
“So I talked to Hillary at breakfast every morning in the election year — 1986 — and we turned it into a political debate. Three people were running and people were saying I was

Lisa Bonet Says She Sensed A ‘Sinister, Shadow Energy’ With Bill Cosby

In an interview with Net-A-Porter’s PORTEREdit, “The Cosby Show” alum Lisa Bonet broke her silence on the dozens of sexual misconduct allegations against her former TV patriarch Bill Cosby, which Cosby has denied. Lisa shared that she sensed a “sinister, shadow energy” while working with Cosby. Read her full interview here.

Lisa Bonet Used To Feel Sinister Vibes From Bill Cosby

Celebrity Sightings in Philadelphia - January 21, 2018

Lisa Bonet is finally speaking about Bill Cosby’s alleged sexual assaults. The actress now says she had a bad feeling about him in the 80’s,

In a new interview with Net-a-Porter the actress breaks her silence on her former cast mate Bill Cosby. Titled “A Life Less Ordinary” the cover story details Bonet’s come up in Hollywood, he reluctance to conform and her current day to day. Thankfully the writer addressed the elephant in the room.

When asked about the multiple women claiming her television dad drugged and raped them she stated she was unaware of his conduct at the time. Lisa did point out that she did feel an ill vibe coming from his direction.

“There was just energy. And that type of sinister, shadow energy cannot be concealed.” She confirmed the energy was indeed dark. “Always. And if I had anything more to reveal then it would have happened a long time ago. That’s my nature. The truth will set you free.”

For eight seasons they worked together on two iconic sitcoms The Cosby Show and A Different World. Bonet and Cosby’s relationship became strained when she posed nude for Interview Magazine in 1987. Bill reportedly fired her when she got pregnant which he viewed as a direct contradiction to the wholesome Denise Huxtable character she played.

The legendary comedian’s trial is set to start Monday, April 2. Most recently Bill returned to the stage performing comedy for the first time since the scandals in January.

Civil Rights Figure Viola Desmond Is The Face Of Canada’s $10 Bill

Canadian flag

Source: S. Goerner / Getty

Viola Desmond‘s name may not ring bells here in the states but for our neighbors to the North, she’s a prominent part of Canada‘s civil rights history. Desmond, whose defiance against racism led to an arrest that was not pardoned until she passed away, will now be the face of Canada’s $ 10 bill after an unveiling on Thursday (Mar. 8).

The Toronto Star reports:

A new $ 10 bill featuring Desmond was unveiled by Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz.

The purple polymer bill — the first vertically oriented bank note issued in Canada — includes a portrait of Desmond and a historic map of north end Halifax on one side and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg on the other.

“It was long past time for a bank note to feature an iconic Canadian woman,” Poloz told the large crowd gathered at the Halifax Central Library on International Women’s Day despite a blustery snowstorm and flickering power. “That’s been a goal of mine since I became governor.”

Morneau said the deck was “doubly stacked” against Desmond because of her gender and the colour of her skin. He said she stood up for what she believed in and helped make the country a better place.

For background, in November 1946, Desmond was waiting for her car to be repaired after traveling to New Glasgow. To pass the time, Desmond, a hairdresser and business owner, decided to take in a movie. When she was asked to sit in a Blacks-only balcony section, Desmond refused to move and she was arrested.

A fight in Nova Scotia’s Supreme Court led by the local NAACP was unsuccessful, and the charge hung over Desmond’s head even after her death in 1965. Canada posthumously pardoned Desmond in 2010, and the country has honored her several times over the years since her passing with a stamp and plans to name a park after her.

Chris Matthews Made Bill Cosby Pill Joke Before Interviewing Hillary Clinton

Chris Matthews, the longtime host of MSNBC’s Hardball show, is at the center of a controversy involving a comment he made off the air towards Hilary Clinton. Ahead of a 2016 interview, Matthews made a tasteless joke about giving the then-presidential hopeful a Bill Cosby pill that was caught on a hot mic.

The Cut exclusively reports:

Network footage obtained by the Cut shows Matthews, during the interview setup, making a couple of “jokes” about Clinton. He asks, “Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?” And then, as he waits for the water, he adds, “Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?” Matthews then laughs, delighted with the line, for an extended moment, as the staffers around him react with disbelief, clearly uncomfortable.

In a statement delivered to The Cut, Matthews apologized for the joke although MSNBC has yet to make any grander gestures thus far. The outlet adds that conservative publication Daily Caller wrote a story last month highlighting that Matthews faced sexual harassment complaints twenty years ago that was settled out of court.

Sarah Jessica Parker to Narrate Bill Cunningham Documentary

Sarah Jessica Parker has been tapped to narrate “The Times of Bill,” a feature-length documentary about the late New York Times photographer and fashion historian. In addition, artist and illustrator Ruben Toledo has created the animations for the film while legendary model Pat Cleveland’s sole recorded song, “Tonight, Josephine” serves as the film’s theme song.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Bill Cunningham

The film is written and directed by Mark Bozek and produced by Bozek and Live Rocket cofounder Russell Nuce. Live Rocket, a New York-based entertainment and commerce company, just completed its first global collaboration with Apple to promote “The Times of Bill,” the company’s first project. The tour, part of Apple’s “Today at Apple” retail programming initiatives, included curated events in New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Tokyo and Singapore.

“The Times of Bill” poster by Ruben Toledo.

On the day Cunningham died 18 months ago, Bozek went into his basement and retrieved a 25-year-old interview he did with the photographer. The interview, which Bozek conducted when he was 27 years old and producing a fashion segment for television, was supposed to last “just 10 minutes.” Hours later, Cunningham was still talking — passionately and unabashedly — about his unprecedented focus on what

Bill Murray Tees Up Performance Golf Blazer

Feeling the need to dress up on the golf course? Bill Murray has the answer.
The actor and avid golfer — who carries an enviable 7.2 handicap — has created what is being billed as the first performance blazer to be worn on the links.
On Thursday, William Murray Golf, a company created last fall by Bill Murray and his brothers, will unveil the Serious Business Tartan Blazer in the Murray family tartan pattern along with pants to match. The two-button, single-vent blazer is made from 95 percent polyester and 5 percent spandex in a two-way stretch shell and a four-way stretch lining. The blazer also offers UPF 50+ sun protection, is moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant.
It will retail for $ 210 on the William Murray Golf site.
The jacket is just the latest irreverent twist from the William Murray Golf collection, which has attracted high-profile investors such as Andy Roddick, Brooklyn Decker, Kendra Scott and others.
The line features plaid panels on shorts with a golf club pattern, camouflage polos and tropical mum patterns on button-down shirts. The collection was created “on the notion that life and golf don’t have to be so serious. Keep it light, have fun and bring personality onto the course.”

Director Bill Condon brings his creative vision to life in this Director’s Extended Edition! Experience the big screen adaptation of Tom Eyen’s Tony award-winning Broadway musical in a tale of dreams, stardom, and the high cost of success in the cutthroat recording industry. The time is the 1960s, and singers Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose), and Deena (Beyoncé Knowles) are about to find out just what it's like to have their wildest dreams come true. Discovered at a local talent show by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), the trio known as "the Dreamettes" is soon offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of opening for popular singer James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). Subsequently molded into an unstoppable hit machine by Taylor and propelled into the spotlight as “the Dreams,” the girls quickly find their bid for the big time taking priority over personal friendship as Taylor edges out of the ultra-talented Effie so that the more beautiful Deena can become the face of the group. Now, as the crossover act continues to dominate the airwaves, the small-town girls with the big-city dreams slowly begin to realize that the true cost of fame may be higher than any of them ever anticipated.

Why the New Healthcare Bill Will Be a Loser

People accuse me of imagining that everything President Trump does is brilliant (persuasion-wise) no matter what he does. But I expect the next version of the Republican healthcare bill to be a complete failure. That’s because Republicans seem deeply committed to a losing path, thanks to what might be called the Contrast Problem.

Contrast is the driving principle behind all decisions. You have to know how your options differ, and by how much, or else you have no basis for a decision. President Obama solved for the contrast problem by designing Obamacare to cover more people than before. The rest of the details – especially the costs – were hard to predict, so our brains flushed that noise and focused on the greater number of people covered.

Everyone knew Obamacare would need future tuning to get it right. That gave us mental permission to focus on the good parts we understood – the greater coverage – and hope the other details would get worked out later. President Obama nailed the Contrast Problem like the Master Persuader he is.

That was then.

Now, President Trump and the Republicans have the “going second” problem. The public will compare their proposed bill with Obamacare and conclude that the one metric they understand – the number of people covered – does not compare favorably with Obamacare. The contrast is fatal.

We know Paul Ryan will do his wonkish best to tell us about all the amazing advantages of this new bill. And we know the public won’t understand any of it. But they sure will know it doesn’t cover as many people. Done. Bury it.

During the campaign, candidate Trump made some references to taking care of everyone. It sounded like universal coverage, but no one thought he meant it.

He did mean it.

He meant it because he understands the contrast problem.  Any Obamacare replacement needs to cover more people than Obamacare, or else it is dead on arrival. Any skilled persuader would see that.

Paul Ryan doesn’t see the Contrast Problem as important, evidently.

I think most trained persuaders would agree that the one-and-only path to a successful replacement of Obamacare should include AT A MINIMUM a plan to reach greater coverage. And the only way to get there is by goosing innovation in the healthcare field. We can’t tax our way to full healthcare coverage. We need to lower the costs. And President Trump also needs to solve the Contrast Problem.

To that end, I suggest creating a special low-cost (or free) plan for low income people who are willing to accept a bit more risk. If the plan is robust enough, it could provide a path to greater patient coverage compared to Obamacare and solve the contrast problem. As a mental exercise only, the plan might have the following elements:

1. Online doctors for 90% of routine cases.

2. Require big pharma to provide free meds for people in this plan as a condition of selling in the United States. The low-income people covered would be the ones who would not otherwise buy these drugs, so the companies would only lose the cost of the materials themselves, which is trivial.

3. Recruit and approve special doctors for this plan who are by law exempt from any malpractice suits so long as they provide reasons for their decisions. This would allow them to avoid some red tape and also use new and inexpensive medical technology before full FDA approval – but only for the new stuff that common sense tells the doctors would not be especially dangerous. I’m not talking about pills and internal medicine. I’m talking about medical devices, mostly. It would be up to the doctor to decide when it was safe to risk using the new methods.

4. Patients agree to wear health monitors – the newest prototypes – and to share their medical information (anonymously) for the greater benefit of society. This would allow early detection and treatment. Perhaps the low-cost insurance could be free to those who walk 10,000 steps a day, or something of that nature.

5. Shine a government light on any medical technology or systems improvements that would lower cost, to guarantee that the good ones are known to doctors and investors. (Then stay out of the way.)

This is just a starter concept for what a special low-cost plan (with slightly higher risks) might look like. The main point is that you could cobble together a low-cost plan if you had some government muscle behind it to clear out the useless regulations and to focus energy in the right places.

If President Trump presents us with a healthcare plan that doesn’t cover as many people as Obamacare, but will cover more people eventually, that’s a winning contrast.

Otherwise, the bill will die on the Contrast hill. And that’s the direction we’re heading.

As I’ve said before, America can’t make a strong claim to greatness if we can’t do healthcare right. So let’s do it right. Or at least have a plan to get there.

You might enjoy reading my book because it will keep you healthy.

Bill O’Reilly Schools Donald Trump Over ‘Operation Wetback’

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly challenged Donald Trump about the presidential candidate’s hardline immigration stance on Wednesday night.

Trump has promised to deport every undocumented immigrant and build a massive wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. O’Reilly pointed out that the Eisenhower-era program Trump cited during the debate as proof that his plan would work was extremely flawed.

The controversial policy, known as “Operation Wetback,“ sent at least 1 million people — including U.S. citizens — to Mexico in deplorable ways.

“That was brutal what they did to those people to kick them back,” O’Reilly said. “The stuff they did was really brutal, it could never happened today.”

“We would do it in a very humane way,” Trump said.

“I back you on the wall,” O’Reilly said. “But I also don’t think you could deport these people because the federal courts would stop you… each person has to have due process… you know that!”

O’Reilly has challenged the former reality TV star on his immigration plan before, but that criticism continues to fall on deaf ears.

Watch the full Trump interview in the video above. The immigration exchange begins at 5:07.

Bill Nye Wants You To ‘Transmit’ Your Personality With A Bow Tie

Bill Nye had a huge influence on every ’90s science classroom. Now, he’d like to have an influence on your wardrobe, too.

The beloved  ”Science Guy” has teamed up with menswear designer Nick Graham on a line of limited-edition bow ties that are, naturally, science themed. Adorned with images of planets, the periodic table and even Nye’s silhouette, each one perfectly embodies Nye’s quirky style and, as exhibited by our interview with him, his personality, too.

Nye, who boasts an impressive bow tie collection of “about 400,” explained to The Huffington Post at Nick Graham’s showroom in New York City that when it comes to fashion, science is more involved than you might think. “We can transmit information about ourselves, not only by our posture and our manner of speech and the way we move our hand and talk, but by the way we dress. To me, this is all science. It has to do with how our species interact.”

He has certainly transmitted tons of information about the world and himself over the years, most recognizably in a suit and bow tie. On days off, though, he “really likes the cut of skinny jeans” and, as a “mess-around-the-houser,” often opts for painting pants at home.

When it comes to style essentials, Nye swears by white button-down shirts, and has an interesting theory about their decline —  at least in some forms of media. “It seems to me it was the day the Bill Clinton impeachment hearing started, somebody told congressmen and senators to stop wearing white shirts on camera, that the world would explode! And they all started wearing blue. Blue shirts look OK, but if you want to be dressed up, you wear a white shirt,” he said.

For women, his favorite trend is a little less practical. “I know they’re not especially good for your feet and I know it’s a little dangerous for running, but high heels are fantastic. I don’t wear them, but I’m a big fan,” he said.

Nye, who logically explained to the crowd that regular ties are less preferable for his work, since they have the tendency to “slip into the soup,” said he does, in fact, have two regular ties left in his collection, but they’re just kept for nostalgic purposes. “One from my brother’s wedding and one that I wore to my first job interview, I’m not even joking you.”

So, would he ever change back? “Who knows what the future holds? Maybe I’ll decide that bow ties are bad, but I don’t think so. Once you’re in this far,” he said, trailing off. ”It’s fine with me.”

The bow ties retail for $ 49.50 each, with 10 percent of proceeds going toward the Planetary Society, Nye’s non-profit, and can be purchased on NickGraham.com

The One Thing Bill Maher Loves About Donald Trump

On “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night, Maher led a panel discussion about the Republican presidential candidates’ greatest weaknesses, inspired by the question that opened the GOP debate Wednesday.

While Maher has expressed clearly negative feelings about Trump in the past, he did reveal one thing he appreciates about the candidate.

“Trump [was] the only guy who was honest,” Maher said to his panelists. “He said, ‘I don’t forgive.’ I love Trump for that. He’s like, I don’t forgive. You fuck with me, I’m Vito Corleone, I will follow you back to Italy. I will find you in your old age and I will stick a knife in your stomach.'”

Back in September, Maher called out Trump’s ignorant comments about undocumented workers by channeling him in a segment jokingly telling Americans to rally against Australians “taking” our jobs.

“Australia is not sending us its best people,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs — yes, enough for everybody, but still — they’re rapists — OK, not rapists, but they do a lot of fucking — and I assume some are good people.”

Sigh. It’s not too surprising that Maher had trouble finding something about Trump to like.
