Former United Nations leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Kofi Annan has died. The Ghanian national served as the UN chief from 1997 to 2006 and later worked on efforts to bring peace to Syria and the surrounding region.
From the Kofi Annan Foundation:
It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness. His wife Nane and their children Ama, Kojo and Nina were by his side during his last days.
Kofi Annan was a global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world. During his distinguished career and leadership of the United Nations he was an ardent champion of peace, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law.
After stepping down from the United Nations, he continued to work tirelessly in the cause of peace through his chairmanship of the Kofi Annan Foundation and as chair of The Elders, the group founded by Nelson Mandela. He was an inspiration to young and old alike.
Annan, along with the UN, won the Nobel for humanitarian work in 2001 and that mission remained with him for the rest of his career.
His passion for the development of Ghana and other African nations extended beyond his time as a special envoy for the UN in Syria, and he was involved with a number of organizations covering climate concerns while remaining, as his foundation stated in their loving tribute, a “global statesman” of high regard.
Annan was 80.

Tekashi 6ix9ine landed in news a day ago after reports of a shootout between his crew and Fetty Wap’s team, a claim the New York rapper has since shot down. Tekashi then turned his attention towards Chief Keef and Lil Reese, saying they have 48 hours to kill him or else.
As reported by TMZ, Tekashi and crew attempted to visit a Los Angeles recording studio on Wednesday to connect with Fetty but gunshots ensued for unknown reasons. Via Instagram, Tekashi spoke directly to the rumors and TMZ via an Instagram video decrying any manner of beef.
In a series of now-deleted Instagram videos, Tekashi called out Keef and Reese in where he isused that two-day fade offer claim. This comes as developing reports of shots being fired at Keef outside a New York hotel have come forth.
After the tough talk from Tekashi 6ix9ine, reports broke out this morning that Chief Keef was shot at this morning in front of a New York hotel. Tekashi named Keef and fellow Chicago rapper Lil Reese in a threatening message daring the Drill artists to kill him in 48 hours.

Diane von Furstenberg has entered a new year that could bring lots of changes to her contemporary sportswear business.
Last month, DVF revealed she was interested in selling all or part of her company and a week later that her chief creative officer Jonathan Saunders had resigned. All this is on top of the fact that her business has been without a chief executive officer for more than a year.
Von Furstenberg said of looking for a potential investor that “2018 will be the year in which we will be able to attract the best expertise and leadership to protect the legacy of the brand and make sure DVF is relevant in this disruptive moment of the industry.”
The designer revealed she would hire Michel Dyens & Co., a leading independent investment banking firm, headquartered in New York and Paris, which focuses on mergers and acquisitions, to sell a stake in the business. Dyens has extensive experience leading transactions in luxury goods, beauty, spirits and other premium brand consumer goods. In fact, Dyens worked with DVF some 35 years ago when she sold her cosmetics company to British pharmaceutical giant Beecham Group Ltd. in 1983.

PARIS – Jonathan Saunders has resigned from his position as chief creative officer of Diane von Furstenberg, the company said in a statement on Friday.
The news comes days after von Furstenberg told WWD she plans to sell a stake in her fashion company. The designer and chairwoman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) plans to hire Michel Dyens & Co., a leading independent investment banking firm, to explore options.
Saunders joined DVF in May 2016 and was in charge of all product categories, store design, web site design, a new corporate brand identity and marketing including advertising campaigns.
At the time of his hire, von Furstenberg said Saunders’ arrival symbolized and facilitated her stepping back from the day-to-day duties that occupy the work of a full-time creative director.
The British designer’s last collection for the label was his pre-fall lineup, inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Zabriskie Point.”

LOOK AT DIZ: Balmain has lined up Txampi Diz as the house’s first chief marketing officer.
After more than 15 years at KCD Worldwide, Diz has exited as senior vice president and managing director of KCD Paris. What he won’t be relinquishing is an advisor role to KCD’s executive board of directors. Balmain is one of the American agency’s largest clients. Balmain’s team works with KCD’s offices in New York, Paris and London across all of its divisions — media relations, creative services and digital.
In step with Diz’s news, KCD Paris has promoted Alexis Arnault and Michele Giacalone to managing directors. Previously, the two men held the title of vice president of public relations. They will work with agency partner and managing director Laurence Laure. Arnault and Giacalone have been with the agency for 14 years and 6 years respectively.
In this new post, Diz is to oversee marketing, advertising, media relations and digital responsibilities. He will report to chief executive officer Massimo Piombini and he will work closely with creative director Olivier Rousteing. Diz has been very much part of Rouesting’s inner circle as he has amassed a colossal social media following, due partially to big-name fans like Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and
Our West Coast Rep & DJ DJ Hustle Takes us behind the scenes with Chief Keef. Keef was set to perform in hologram form in New York, Chicago and L.A. Yet as of Friday night (Sept. 18), shows in all three cities have either been circumvented or shut down outright.
The first sign of trouble with the Bang 3 Hologram Fest in L.A. arose earlier this week. Billed as a release party for Bang 3 Part 2, the fest was scheduled to take place Sept. 18 in the Henry Fonda Theater. We will see what’s next for Chief Keef Bang 3
While details are still being confirmed, last night on Los Angeles’ KTLA news it was reported that 2 dead bodies were uncovered at supposed Chief Keef owned pot dispensary in Compton, CA.
At around 7 pm tonight (Sept. 24) deputies were called after a body was found. LA County Sheriffs began conducting interviews and collecting evidence when later another body was uncovered on the scene
Early reports are suggesting that this dispensary is owned by the GLO Gang, Chief Keef’s outfit, and while detectives are still looking for info, neighbors say they heard gun shots in the early hours of the morning recently.
According to KTLA, Detectives responded to a call about on 4800 block of East Compton Boulevard, where according to Lt. Nabeel Mitry of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 2 bodies were found and pronounced dead on the scene.
Just days ago a Cheif Keef concert in LA was shut down after just one song when LAPD determined the proper permits were not obtained for the show.
More news as details emerge.
The president of the largest NYPD union has stepped up to defend the officer that roughed up Black retired tennis star, James Blake. Patrick Lynch, president of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, said in a written statement that critics of officer James Frascatore are “not qualified” to judge the actions of police officers during arrests.
As reported by Capital New York, Lynch issued a public statement addressed to “all of those inclined to jump to conclusions,” which seemed to be pointed most especially at the media. Lynch’s words were also sharply aimed others who have openly decried the NYPD’s record of police brutality, yet the union head stood by Frascatore despite his record of complaints filed by citizens he’s manhandled in the past.
From Capital New York:
In his letter, Lynch said Frascatore was being unfairly judged.
“If you have never struggled with someone who is resisting arrest or who pulled a gun or knife on you when you approached them for breaking a law, then you are not qualified to judge the actions of police officers putting themselves in harm’s way for the public good,” he wrote.
“The men and women of the NYPD are once again disheartened to read another knee-jerk reaction from ivory tower pundits who enjoy the safety provided by our police department without understanding the very real risks that we take to provide that safety,” Lynch also wrote.
Frascatore has been placed on modified duty amid an ongoing probe, officials have said.
Frascatore’s takedown of Blake, which was captured on hotel security video released by the NYPD last week, was criticized this morning by Ray Kelly, who led the NYPD for 12 years during the Michael Bloomberg administration. In an interview with WNYC’s Brian Lehrer, Kelly — no ally of Bratton or de Blasio — agreed that Frascetore’s behavior appeared inappropriate.
Raw Story reported that Blake’s attorney, Kevin Marino, responded by saying Lynch’s letter was “far more than nonsense” in a written response.

Even after his first two attempts miserably, Chief Keef is hosting a hologram concert once again. The concert, titled the “Bang 3 Hologram Fest”, will be held next week in Los Angeles to help promote Keef’s upcoming album Bang 3. Along with a Hologram performance, the Chi-Town rapper’s show also includes activities like laser tag, food, art, and so on.
As stated earlier, Chief Keef has a bad record for hosting hologram concerts. His first two were in honor of a 1 year-old Dillon Harris, who was struck by a stray bullet during a Chicago shooting. Unfortunately, both shows were deemed as a initial threat and shut down by police in less than an hour. The hologram concerts also received negative criticism from public officials including the mayor of Chicago.
Do you think this show will last longer than the others? Let us know.

Last week, Chief Keef announced that he would perform via hologram in his hometown city, Chicago. The drill music artist was set to perform with the hopes of preventing violence in the streets of Chi-Town, especially since a one-year old died during the same shooting that killed Keef’s close friend, Capo. Unfortunately, the concert was postponed due to a conflict with local paster, Michael Pfleger. Pfleger shown his disdain for the Chief Keef concert a couple of days ago on Facebook, according to the Chicago Tribune:
“Instead of having a concert … why doesn’t he man up and acknowledge it’s time to stop this violence and apologize for his part in it!!!! We don’t need a concert … we need PEACE.”
According to David Alki, the event’s organizer, Father Pfleger was accused getting the Redmoon Theatre in downtown Chicago to back out of their contract. Alki wrote to The Tribune:
“The meddling, attention seeking Father Pfleger, who bullied the owner of the downtown theater to back out of his contract, will not succeed. He is exploiting this tragedy and taking money away from the victims and solid charities who are doing good work in Chicago.”
Although Pfleger is accused of talking the Redmoon Theatre out of the July 17th date, there has not been any connection between both parties.
Well definitely keep you updated on this growing story.
A hologram of Chief Keef was supposed to pay tribute to a local child killed.
Glory Boyz Entertainment rapper, and Chief Keef associate, Capo was reportedley killed in Chicago today.
The Chicago Tribune reports several shootings, one of which occurred this afternoon on the 7700 block of South Kingston Avenue on the city’s South Side. A young man (confirmed by friends to be Capo) was shot in the hip and back and taken to the Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The alleged shooters also ran over and killed a 1-year-old boy sitting in a stroller shortly after the shooting.
Three other people were shot today on the South Side including a 12-year-old boy.
A video that surfaced online shows people tending to a man (allegedly Capo) bleeding heavily on the sidewalk.
Fredo Santana has confirmed the death via twitter.
Rest in peace to those killed in this senseless act of violence.

Spoiler alert: Director Benjamin Statler’s docudrama “Soaked In Bleach” ends with former Seattle Police chief Norm Stamper saying he would reopen the investigation into the death of Kurt Cobain, if he were calling the shots today.
But Stamper was the guy in charge from 1994 to 2000, including the time of Cobain’s death. He now insists that Seattle Police should “have taken steps to study patterns involved in the behavior of key individuals who had a motive to see Kurt Cobain dead.”
He went on to to say that, “If in fact Kurt Cobain was murdered, as opposed to having committed suicide, and it was possible to learn that, shame on us for not doing that. That was in fact our responsibility. It’s about right and wrong. It’s about honor. It’s about ethics.”
Stamper hammered home his point, adding: “If we didn’t get it right the first time, we damn well better get it right the second time, and I would tell you right now if I were the Chief of Police, I would reopen this investigation.”
The movie, which is told from the perspective of private investigator Tom Grant, (who was hired by Cobain’s wife Courtney Love to find her husband after he went missing from a rehab center in Los Angeles), is woven together through reenactments of the the hours of recorded conversations between Grant and Love, and interviews with experts who refuse to believe Cobain died by suicide.
The present-day Seattle Police Department do not share their sentiments. Last year, just before the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death, rumors began flying that authorities were about to reopen an investigation after it was reported they had developed four rolls of film from the crime scene that had been sitting in an evidence vault.
While the photos were released to the public, the Seattle PD made it very clear they were not reopening the case. “No change, no developments, no new leads,” a police spokeswoman said, while the department tweeted, “Our detective reviewed the case file anticipating questions surrounding the closed Cobain case as the 20 yr anniversary approaches.”
The movie addressed the undeveloped film and reenacts a scene in which Grant is told the photos will probably never be developed because they “don’t develop photos on suicides.” “Soaked In Bleach” goes on to claim that “by their negligent death investigation,” the Seattle Police:
- Allowed Kurt Cobain to be cremated 6 days after being discovered.
- Waited 30 days to process the shotgun for fingerprints.
- Gave Courtney Love the shotgun to have it melted down.
- Allowed the greenhouse crime scene to be torn down and destroyed.

John Huppenthal, an outgoing Republican school superintendent with a questionably racist past, used his last day in the office to issue possible funding sanctions on a school because it taught a class on Hip-Hop. In a letter issued this past Friday, Huppenthal is urging the state to enforce withholding of financial support to the school.
Huppenthal’s letter addressed to Tuscson Unified School District superintendent H.T. Sanchez took direct aim at the district’s decision to teach “culturally relevant” classes which is out of step with a state law. Cholla Magnet High School is mentioned in Huppenthal’s correspondence, which taught a history class, “Culturally Relevant Mexican American Perspective,” and used lyrics from the rap-rock group, Rage Against The Machine.
An English class at Cholla Magnet High, “Culturally Relevant African American Perspective,” was said to have included from KRS-One’s “An Introduction to Hip-Hop” eassy.
More from the Arizona Daily Star:
John Huppenthal, who lost in the election, said in a news release Friday that the state can decide to withhold funding from Tucson Unified School District for the courses.
“During my tenure as Superintendent, I have been closely monitoring the status of the Tucson Unified School District’s culturally relevant curricula to ensure that all TUSD students, regardless of their race or ethnic background, have access to a high quality education,” Huppenthal said in the release. “After a thorough review of materials from TUSD’s culturally relevant courses, I find that the district has failed to meet several provisions of the 2012 Settlement Agreement.”
The classes replaced TUSD’s now defunct Mexican American Studies courses, which were declared in violation of state law.
“I am deeply concerned by the fact that the noncompliance appears to extend beyond classes taught from the Mexican American perspective and now also includes classes taught from the African American perspective,” the release reads.
State Governer Jan Brewer, who once famously scolded President Barack Obama in his face, signed into law in 2010 a ban on race-related coursework. The idea was that these classes potentially promoted “resentment” towards other races.
Huppenthal was embroiled in controversy last year when he confessed to writing a series of racially iinsensitiveblog posts. Huppenthal tearfully apologized for his words, but it wasn’t enough to save him from losing his re-election bid in August.
