GIVING BACK: “I first worked here when I did a Chanel cruise show up on that hill, I remember walking down was weird, walking up was weird, too. I love this location and I’ve supported a lot of amfARs here,” said Toni Garrn, slipping into her seat at a charity lunch and auction she cohosted with Amend on Friday on the terrace of the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, with views across the Mediterranean.
Over 130,000 euros was raised at the event, with event producer Andy Boose auctioning off items including a Terry O’Neill photo of David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor and a Chopard Happy Love watch. Guests included Remo Ruffini, John Nollet, Ellen von Unwerth and Daria Strokous, with the funds raised going to Amend’s programs for preventing road traffic injuries to children in Africa and the Toni Garrn Foundation, which supports education initiatives for girls in Africa.
In business mode, Garrn wore a pink suit by Victoria Hayes. “I feel like a Barbie,” said the model-turned-actor, whose latest roles include playing a German secret agent in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
“I have a very strong German accent, it’s really fun. I get to give Tom [Holland], who plays Spiderman, a new suit because

We see what’s happening in Alabama right now, which is crazy, archaic, not progressive, not American,” she said, referencing that state’s banning of all abortions.
On the goal set by Time’s Up to achieve 50-50 equality in the workplace in Hollywood by 2020, “The statistics are going the wrong way, we’re not improving,” she said.

Louis Vuitton and Lauren Santo Domingo, cofounder and chief brand officer of Moda Operandi, are collaborating on a digital film showcasing the French house’s iconic Capucines bags.
The editorial short film follows Santo Domingo through her day in New York, highlighting the versatility of the Capucines. It shows her working on her computer and sipping coffee on her terrace, commuting to work and hailing a cab, making decisions about fabric swatches, going to a restaurant for lunch and dressing up and going out at night — each time wearing a different Capucines bag. Seven bags are featured. She’s also dressed in Louis Vuitton pre-fall 2019.
This is the first time Santo Domingo has partnered with a fashion house on a campaign.
Moda Operandi clients and their personal stylists will have direct access to Louis Vuitton sales teams to purchase the Capucines bags. The retail price of the bags range from $ 4,750 to $ 7,450.

PARIS — Pharrell Williams has been a Chanel model, film star, composer and brand ambassador. This week, he will make his debut in his new role as codesigner of a capsule collection with the French luxury brand that is set to bow exclusively on Thursday at the opening of Chanel’s first flagship boutique in Seoul.
To mark the launch, Williams has stepped in front of the camera again for a short film featuring a gang of women and men on a nocturnal road trip, dressed in the rainbow outfits of the Chanel-Pharrell collection — think sweatshirts with embroidered graffiti, terry-cloth bucket hats and oodles of rhinestone jewelry.
In behind-the-scenes footage shared exclusively with WWD, the multihyphenate explained the process that brought him together with the late Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s creative director for 36 years, starting with their sneaker launch at the now-defunct Paris concept store Colette in 2017.
“This campaign and this film are about a capsule collection, something that they’ve never done in the history of the brand. They do that not with a designer, but with a musician with ambition and dreams,” Williams said.
The “Happy” singer, who has received 12 Grammy Awards and heads the multimedia collective I Am Other, was previously

PARIS — The Chanel-Pharrell collection is landing soon: Pharrell Williams teased some looks from his eagerly awaited collaboration with the French luxury brand in a 15-second clip posted to his Instagram account on Friday.
The segment shows a group of women and men lounging after dark, dressed in the rainbow outfits from the capsule. Williams is seen holding a glowing orb inside his mouth, to eerie effect, while in another scene, a television screen in a grand apartment shows black-and-white footage of the label’s founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, talking about elegance.

PARIS — John Galliano and Nick Knight are rekindling their decades-long creative partnership with a new short film for Maison Margiela showcasing its pillow-shaped Glam Slam bag.
The result is no ordinary handbag campaign: The collaboration with Knight’s Showstudio has resulted in a 360-degree film shot in negative image that will be screened on Saturday and Sunday at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
Even the standard two-dimensional version ranks as an immersive experience, consisting of footage drenched in psychedelic hues of model Duckie Thot in a series of science fiction-inspired sets. A soundtrack by DJ Jeremy Healy, another longtime Galliano collaborator, features lyrics from Roy Orbison’s “In Dreams.”
“John and I have had an artistic relationship, a shared admiration, a love for each other, which has gone on for over 30 years,” Knight told WWD in an interview, noting that he first met the designer on a photo shoot for i-D magazine in 1985 and has created campaigns and editorial images with him ever since. “When we went through the Dior years together, I was there for 10 years with him and since then, I’ve been waiting for a way to come back and work with John again. WOOL YARN: Cerruti 1881 is marking its 50th anniversary with a short documentary film featuring Nino Cerruti, Jason Basmajian and a well-dressed principal from the Wayne McGregor dance company.
“Anima,” directed by Karim Zeriahen, shows Basmajian interviewing Cerruti, who compares the life of a fashion designer to that of a priest, “it’s seven days a week mental work,” he says, adding that his guiding light has always been to make clothes that he would want to wear, clothing that inspire happiness.
The interview, which took place in Italy’s wool capital, Biella, is interspersed with a contemporary dance performance by Travis Clausen-Knight, a principal from the Wayne McGregor company who spins and sweeps and dips around the streets and bridges of Paris and through Cerruti’s design studio dressed in a fluid wool camel coat, dark suit and romantic white shirt

MILAN — Miu Miu will present its 14th short film as part of the Women’s Tales series in Venice on August 31 during the city’s international Film Festival. “The End of History Illusion” is directed by dancer, choreographer and filmmaker Celia Rowlson-Hall, best known for her choreography in the hit TV show “Girls” and her work on music videos by Alicia Keys and MGMT.
“I wanted to explore commercialism in the face of fear, creating a spectacle to distract and entertain, an escape from our present-day reality,” said Rowlson-Hall. She set the story during the Cold War era in a Las Vegas nuclear bunker, shaped as a picturesque family home, including a mini-golf course, a dance floor, a swimming pool and two Jacuzzis, designed to survive a nuclear war for an entire year. “When I saw the new Miu Miu collection, there was something about the textiles and colors that made me want to create characters which could come with this space,” she explained. Her vision of Miu Miu is reflected in the spirit of the film — “elastic, grounded, sensitive and risk-taking,” she said.
