A new tell-all report from The Guardian details the shenanigans that took place behind the scenes while making the film which includes, affairs, poorly-trained unseasoned actors, a possible military coup and insane amounts of cocaine use by the film’s biggest star.
The film was doomed from the moment famed screenwriter Steven De Souza (Die Hard, Commando) came up with a pitch Capcom liked. While he served as the director on the film, producers still supplied input on who should star in the movie. That’s how we got Belgian-born Jean-Claude Van Damme to play American special forces commando Guile and Raul Julia as the iconic video game boss M.Bison to lead a cast of unknowns. Van Damme’s addition to the cast was a costly one who set De Souza back so badly he could no longer afford preproduction fight training for the rest of the cast.
Once production arrived in Bangkok things got even more ridiculous. The films second star Raul Julia came on set “looking like a skeleton” due to a secret battle with stomach cancer. The location they decided to use for the interior shots was an old coast-guard building with a tin roof and riddled with bullet holes. Sunlight coming in through the holes made it impossible to film, plus the rainy season and the sound of raindrops hitting the warehouse made things very difficult. All of the roads were shut down by the Thai military due to rumors of a possible coup. BUT the most interesting revelation came when Souza brought up Van Damme’s insane $ 10,000 a week cocaine habit while filming.
Souza tells The Guardian:
“I couldn’t talk about it at the time, but I can now: Jean-Claude was coked out of his mind. The studio had hired a wrangler to take care of him, but unfortunately, the wrangler himself was a bad influence. Jean-Claude was calling in sick so much I had to keep looking through the script to find something else to film; I couldn’t just sit around for hours waiting for him. On two occasions, the producers allowed him to go to Hong Kong, and on both occasions he came back late—on Mondays, he just wasn’t there at all.”
Oh, he also had an affair with singer/actress Kylie Minogue who played Cammy in the film. Despite the ridiculous amounts of struggle and being panned by critics, the film did manage to rake in over $ 100 million. To read the full story about the mess that was Street Fighter head here. In a season already being hailed as a genre-shifting moment in television, FX’s Atlanta: Robbin Season upped the ante in its last episode which starred the creepy Teddy Perkins. With most fans realizing Donald Glover played the character, it has come out that he remained in the whiteface getup during the entire filming of the episode and baffling his castmates.
Actor Derrick Haywood, who played Benny Hope in the episode, confirmed the news to Vulture. “Initially, I had no idea that Teddy Perkins was actually played by Donald Glover,” he says. Not only did Glover play Teddy, he transformed into Teddy on set, staying in character as the shady figure – pasty makeup, wig, high-pitched voice and all – between scenes. “The director [Hiro Murai] called ‘Teddy’ over [on set] and said, ‘Let’s see what Teddy thinks.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, who is this Teddy guy and why is his opinion so important?’ When I say this guy was in character the whole time, it was just amazing the commitment he brought. We were calling him Teddy, he acted as Teddy – there was no Donald on set whatsoever.”
Glover is crazy for this one, as the Hip-Hop kids say. Did you check out Atlanta: Robbin Season‘s latest episode? Catch our recap here.

Kelli Wilson, a Black woman in Jacksonville, Fla,, claims that white cops beat and assaulted her after they saw her filming her husband’s arrest at a local convenience store. Wilson’s legal team says video of the incident supports her case, but authorities countered her allegations by saying she was interfering with the investigation.
Local television outlet NewsJax4 covered Wilson and her story, who was flanked by her lawyers during the station’s broadcast coverage. Wilson’s attorneys are confident that their client was not in the wrong but without audio in the clip, there could be further snags to come in the case.
In Kelli Wilson’s mind, all she did was record her husband’s arrest with her phone.
Police with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report the woman interfered with their investigation, and was only arrested after being warned more than once.
“I was beaten, and then falsely arrested, my phone was stolen, my car was taken. It was a traumatic experience. It was definitely an experience you never think you would be going through,” said Wilson.
The incident happened July 15, 2015, outside a Westside convenience store. Wilson found out her husband had been stopped by police, so she got a ride to the scene and tried to pickup their vehicle. She says she turned on her video recorder on her phone as she talked with police.
Wilson says she identified herself to police and asked if she could recover the vehicle. She says she acted politely until the confrontation that can be seen on the convenience store surveillance video. Wilson says an officer demanded her phone, so she asked “why?”
“He asked for it, he demanded it again, and I gave him the same, ‘Why do you want my phone? What do you need my phone for?’ He told me he would punch me in my face,” said Wilson. “I eventually got punched and beaten and the sergeant that was on the scene joined in the beating.”
Wilson’s attorneys maintain that the three police officers in question filed a false report against their client and that the video will sway a jury in their favor. A crime and safety analyst for NewsJax4 disagreed with the attorneys, but only because it couldn’t be determined truly what happened without audio.
