Todd Snyder x Liberty London Has the Best Collaboration of the Summer

Bright, busy, and colorful prints are back this summer. Sinuous, floriferous prints and patterns have come around again, daring men to once again embrace the breezy, flowery blouse as the go-to summer shirt. And thanks to Todd Snyder’s new Liberty Prints collection, you can be among the most sinuous and floriferous at your summer gathering.

Okay, enough of the flowery language. We love floral prints, and are firm in our belief that it takes a confident man to wear them without irony. Of course, bright colors and natural patterns are the ideal summer palette. It’s particularly suited for backyard parties and dockside barbecues. If you think you’re making a bold statement by wearing a flowery shirt, you’re absolutely right. If you believe you’re an original, well, Oscar Wilde might beg to differ.

What’s the History of Liberty London?

Since 1875, Liberty London has been renowned for its signature floral patterns. From the outset, its designs were used in everything from wallpaper to clothing, from eyeglass cases to furnishings. The store’s founder Arthur Liberty sought to collect and curate the finest, most exotic goods from around the world.

From the outset, Liberty’s floral motifs embodied a quintessential Englishness. The company was both an advocate and beneficiary of the Art Nouveau movement. In the 1960s Liberty successfully rebranded its trademark designs into Swinging Sixties-cool, tinged by nostalgia. Today, its familiar-yet-exotic archive of over 45,000 vintage floral designs have been captivating artistic shoppers for nearly 150 years.

“Familiar-yet-exotic” perfectly captures the spirit of Todd Snyder’s legendary collabs. Todd has never hesitated in reaching out to other designers and labels to incorporate nostalgia into modern design. And his Todd Snyder x Liberty London Collection is no exception, with camp collar shirts and shorts that showcase this irresistible handiwork.

It’s not a huge selection, with just three prints in both shirts and shorts. But the Todd Snyder x Liberty London Collection is guaranteed to make a splash at any summer gathering—as long as you wear it with confidence, of course.

Thom Browne Hits Back at Accusations He Copied London Artist

CHOPPY WATERS: Thom Browne has responded to allegations from a Central Saint Martins fine arts student that the designer has copied the student’s work.
Ashton Attzs, who won the Evening Standard Art Prize last year, said in an Instagram post that the New York-based designer copied an original artwork depicting figures of different races swimming in lanes in a sea of blue.
“This is a blatant copy of my painting ‘Don’t Stay in Ya Lane.’ Absolutely disgusted, hurt and fuming that this has happened,” the artist wrote in an Instagram post. “Can high-profile fashion houses actually start being original rather than stealing ideas from queer, black young artists?”
Attzs was awarded the Evening Standard Art Prize in November for “Don’t Stay in Ya Lane,” which the newspaper said was created as part of a larger body of work begun in January 2018. The London paper said the work was selected from more than 1,000 entries to pick up the 10,000 pound prize, and advocates for the empowerment of LGBTQ+ community, people of color and those with intersectional identities.
A spokesman for Browne, a keen swimmer, said in a statement Monday the print in question was developed from January to March 2018 as a part of the

As an artist, it's always good to challenge yourself. . . and the thought of translating all the complex layers in a Shpongle album into a live show with a band gave me a panic attack. . . and still does! Some songs we couldn't even find, as they were done on old computers that have long been obsolete, soaking up water under a leaky roof in my garage. Pretty early on I realized the secret would be to bring in musicians far better than ourselves. . . and lots of them! Two weeks before the show the band had never even met each other, even though I had recorded some of them individually in my studio for previous Shpongle albums. Pixel Addicts took care of the lights, showing me complicated diagrams on their laptops which I pretended to understand, having no clue how it would actually look on the night. Meanwhile we all rehearsed in a darkened room, with no air or daylight, getting to know each other by smell alone. . . and perhaps sound. Reams of manuscript paper littered the floor, everyone wore ear plugs, and all I could think was "What the hell am I doing?" . We didn't know if we would ever repeat the performance, so recorded it for posterity. . . Surely only an idiot would actually release their first ever gig though, right? We hope you like it. . . it was made with love, sweat and laughter. . . . Welcome to Shpongleland!

Jo Malone London Sets First Immersive Installation for Blossom Collection

FLOWER POWER: Jo Malone London has set up a quiet retreat in central London for the brand’s first immersive installation, which will run from Friday until Sunday. Situated at Victoria House, next to Holborn Station, the underground venue is bringing the brand’s latest limited-edition fragrance, Frangipani Flower, and the Blossom collection to life.
“The collection really called for an experience like this because it is so vast, and I really wanted to be able to transport people to another world. We’re a creative fragrance brand, so we’re not only exploring with ingredients, but with our launches,” said Wandjina Glasheen-Brown, creative director of Jo Malone London.
Upon entry, visitors are guided through a visual installation. Water droplets are designed to fall randomly from the ceiling into a basin beneath, and the ripples trigger the formation of different color patterns.
On the other side of the installation and in the main room, blossoms are arranged on a long acrylic table in a gradient from yellow to red, mirroring the colors of the new Blossom collection.

Damian Lewis, Helen McCrory Talk Fashion, New Projects at London Shows

FASHION ROUNDS: Husband-and-wife actors Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory kicked off their week in style, attending a range of fashion shows on Monday, including Erdem, Roksanda and Christopher Kane. “I love the glamour and the theater of it: These shows are like 15-minute or five-minute plays,” said McCrory, who said she sees fashion as “a great, big, theatrical dress-up box.”
McCrory, who plays Aunt Polly in the British TV show “Peaky Blinders,” about gangsters in post World War One England, said she also wanted to cheer on her pals Erdem Moralioglu and Roksanda Ilincic. “I go to see and support their work just like they would come and see me in a play or film. We support each others as artists in London.”
Having just wrapped up series five of “Peaky Blinders,” the British actress has had her hands full with Tom Rob Smith’s new BBC drama “MotherFatherSon,” in which she will star alongside Richard Gere, Billy Howle and Pippa Bennett-Warner.
Lewis, meanwhile, is working on the new season of “Billions,” reprising his act as the ambitious billionaire Bobby Axelrod and playing alongside Paul Giamatti. That said, there’s one role he can’t see himself taking on in the future: Fashion designer. “People have seen my sense

Deborah Lyons Kicks Off London Fashion Week With Jazz Night

COMING HOME: Deborah Lyons loves keeping her audience entertained.
For the debut of her new fall 2019 collection, she took over London’s Burlington Arcade on the eve of London Fashion Week — which also happened to be Valentine’s Day — dressed it up with myriad red roses and invited guests and their loved ones for a jazz night.
There were drinks, chocolate treats and a live jazz performance, with the band and singers sporting Lyons’ new fall 2019 pieces, which channeled a tougher, more confident mood, with a darker color palette and a strong focus on the brand’s signature silhouettes.
Some of the highlights included plaid tailored blazers and matching slim pants, body-hugging jumpsuits and a dramatic maxidress appliquéd with red roses all over.
This was the first time Lyons showed on home turf, after taking her show on the road and hosting her debut presentation aboard a Eurostar carriage last September.
“We wanted to do something more intimate and local this time, that brought together our immediate community. Also it’s a nice way to lead into London Fashion Week,” Lyons said.
Her aim with choosing off-schedule slots and alternative presentation formats remains the same: Cutting through the fashion week noise and getting the right audience

Mother of Pearl Takes Charge of Sustainability Conversation at London Fashion Week

LONDON — Mother of Pearl creative director Amy Powney wants to see the fashion industry modernize itself, and is taking the lead in a heated industry conversation: Sustainability.
For more than four years she has been working towards making every step of the Mother of Pearl supply chain more sustainable, from ensuring that cotton suppliers do not use pesticides during the farming process, to keeping production local in a bid to reduce a garment’s carbon footprint.
Powney is now ready to start sharing some of her findings with the rest of the industry, starting with a panel discussion to be held Saturday in association with the British Fashion Council, and broadcast by BBC Earth.
“All of the work that we have been doing around sustainability is not just about changing our own brand, it’s about helping or inspiring others to change theirs, too. Mother of Pearl is a drop in the ocean. Our brand alone can’t change the way the industry operates, but if we all come together then we can have a bigger impact,” said Powney.
Her ultimate goal is to achieve a gold standard for production, having taken a “360-degree view” around sustainability.
“When you use the term ‘sustainability,’ I don’t think you

London Fashion Week Men’s Fall 2019: What to See, Eat and Where to Shop

LONDON — The first weekend in January is never an easy one, but London has the antidote, with a lineup of streetwear and luxury stores and restaurants serving everything from classic British to Taiwanese food, all of which will be open during London Fashion Week Men’s.

London store End.

END OF THE LINE: British property group Shaftesbury has expanded its retail portfolio, opening the first London outpost for the online men’s wear store, End. Occupying 9,000 square feet on the corner of Broadwick and Marshall Streets, the two-story glass-fronted space offers a range of collections from labels including Off-White, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Nike and Adidas Consortiums. The store, which already has units in Newcastle, England, and Glasgow, Scotland, features modern furnishings such as marble staircases and glass showcases.
End is part of a strategy by Shaftesbury to position Soho as a go-to destination for emerging brands. The company has been offering reasonable rents in the neighborhood, which is a few minutes’ walk from Oxford and Regent Streets. Shaftesbury has also helped to install Supreme, Palace, Carhartt and Dukes Cupboard, a multibrand retailer, in the neighborhood. Samantha Bain-Mollison, head of retail at Shaftesbury, has been driving the strategy. She describes End as “influential, with a renowned selection of directional and globally sourced men’s wear.” — Hannah Connolly

Temperley London Pre-Fall 2019

Alice Temperley has been rethinking her business structure and embracing change — the ultimate aim being to sharpen her focus and offer smaller, but better-targeted collections.
Her latest pre-fall range offers a taste of her renewed vision for the brand: Her flair for color, pattern and all things feminine and sequined remain intact, but she is embracing a more laid-back mood and adding a heftier dose of daywear into the mix.
It came in the form of chic shirtdresses, loose tailoring and silk kimono jackets, drawing on the designer’s love of Japanese design and culture.
She also looked to Eastern woodblock prints and Japanese graphic designer Tadanori Yokoo’s posters and matchboxes to inspire the season’s prints. They were loosely translated in the form of geometric patterns on loose tailored pieces or gold flame patterns featured on silk lamé dresses.
One silk lamé dress came in a bright chartreuse shade and a wrap silhouette. The way it flowed around the body and its ability to transition from day to night seemed to encapsulate Temperley’s new direction and the potential of the brand in daywear.
The designer also wanted to add a stronger sense of ease in the range’s eveningwear section, which remains key nevertheless: Sequins were

EXCLUSIVE: Natalia Vodianova and LuisaViaRoma Throw Fabulous Fund Fair in London

Natalia Vodianova’s Naked Heart Foundation has teamed with online luxury fashion web site LuisaViaRoma for her latest installment of the annual Fund Fair.
Slated to take place in London at Roundhouse on Feb. 18, the event takes inspiration from filmmaker Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita,” for its fifth year in the U.K. — and sixth overall.
The Fellini theme will be represented through an over-the-top set design at the English theater — complete with a Trevi Fountain. Guests, who in the past have included Hailey Baldwin and Taylor Swift, will try their hand at classic fair games like Hook-a-duck and bowling. Participating brands Louis Vuitton, Celine, Givenchy, Dior and more will have prizes on hand for the winners. There will additionally be live entertainment from Warner Music Group at the event.
Vodianova launched her foundation Naked Heart in 2004; since then, she has raised more than 40 million euros across the United States, U.K., Russia and France. The organization aims to support children with physical, mental and sensory disabilities through the initiation and support of various projects. Over the years, the Naked Heart Foundation has financed 18 projects across seven Russian cities, including a Family Support Centre in Nizhny Novgorod and summer and

Miuccia Prada Honored at Fashion Awards in London

LONDON — The British Fashion Council has named Miuccia Prada as the recipient of its Outstanding Achievement Award, to be presented during the upcoming Fashion Awards, held on Dec. 10 in London.
The accolade, which was previously given to the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Manolo Blahnik and Ralph Lauren, celebrates an individual’s “overwhelming creative contribution” to the industry.
“Mrs. Prada’s intuition for the zeitgeist and her blending of multiple creative disciplines including fashion design, art and architecture since the beginning have made her a pioneering force in our industry,” said Stephane Phair, the BFC’s newly appointed chairman.
Nadja Swarovski, who has again partnered with the BFC to host the awards added: “Miuccia Prada is unquestionably one of the most influential designers in fashion history. A true visionary, her dedication to fashion as an art form is endlessly inspirational.”
Some other top names shortlisted for the top prizes at the awards include Burberry, Givenchy, Victoria Beckham, Marine Rose and Craig Green.

Alexa Chung Brings Thanksgiving to London

THE BRIT TAKE: Alexa Chung brought a taste of New York to London with a Thanksgiving celebration to kick off the holiday season. “I’m calling it Chungsgiving — I’ve taken Thanksgiving, as if the British haven’t done enough to plunder,” Chung said, while getting ready at the penthouse of the London Edition Hotel, where she hosted the dinner.
“I’ve lived in New York and experienced quite a few Thanksgivings over there. I never had any family living with me, so what the holiday meant to me was bringing your friends together and making a makeshift family of all the expats floating around.” Thursday evening’s makeshift family included Serafina Sama of Isa Arfen, Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie of Pop & Suki, Jack Guinness, Jeanne Damas, Pixie Geldof and Camille Charriere.
“I’ve missed how Thanksgiving in New York used to feel. It’s the one time of the year when it’s not a religious holiday, it’s just the beginning of the holiday season, where you can celebrate it with your mates, get drunk, feel cozy,” added Chung.
Everyone certainly got cozy. The evening kicked off with rounds of American whiskey punch, followed by a turkey dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. To top it off,

Virgil Abloh’s First Louis Vuitton Designs Drop at London Pop-Up

OVER THE RAINBOW: The first items from Virgil Abloh’s debut men’s collection for Louis Vuitton have dropped at a pop-up store in London.
Abloh celebrated the launch of the collection on Friday with celebrities including Idris Elba, Rami Malek, Rita Ora and Frank Ocean. The space, located on Bruton Street, featured walls covered in a print from “The Wizard of Oz” showing Dorothy, played by Judy Garland, dreaming in a field of poppies.

Clothes were displayed in a transparent box printed with the LV monogram in a rainbow of colors, reminiscent of the color gradient runway that Abloh set up in the Palais-Royal Garden in Paris in June, for a show that was hailed as marking a watershed in the intersection of streetwear and luxury.
Over the weekend, Abloh reposted images of items people purchased on his Instagram Stories. It was not immediately clear if items have gone on sale at other locations than the London Pop-up. Officials at Vuitton could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Not So Swinging Thirties to Take the Spotlight in New London Show

SOBERING UP: The Turbulent Thirties and its fashion — ranging from the influence of Hollywood films to the rise of suburbia — will be the focus of a new show called “Night and Day: 1930s Fashion & Photographs” at The Fashion and Textile Museum. The exhibition will open Friday and run until Jan. 20.
Split into different tableaux, the exhibition highlights the changing political and cultural landscape of the decade, and its impact on fashion. There will be a total of 100 looks on display, lent by Mark and Cleo Butterfield of C20 Vintage.
“Whilst carrying out the research and planning Night and Day, it became clear that escapism was a major theme that needed to be explored. While the decade is famous for its glamorous bias-cut evening gowns that showcased a woman’s curves and its magical musicals full of romance and glamour, these years were defined by a constant anxiety about the harsh economic reality and shifting social status,” said co-curator Teresa Collenette.

Designers Shine at Discovery Lab, On|Off Showcases in London

RISING UP: Among the rising stars at the British Fashion Council’s Discovery Lab were Asian designers who either studied in the U.K. or crossed the globe to present their brand in the country for the first time. The most notable names at this London Fashion Week showcase were Maarknull and Underage, whose collections were steeped in nostalgic street and club references, but with an eye on the future.
Marrknull meshed the athletic wear worn by school kids in China with traditional Chinese clothes. It dismantled stereotypes and created a fresh aesthetic. Among the collection’s highlights was the baseball jacket qipao, which reimagined an army green satin bomber jacket into a qipao dress silhouette, and a track jacket layered with a mesh fisherman’s vest.
London-based Chinese designer Ying Shen of Underage looked to the Club Kids of the late Eighties and early Nineties for her spring 2019 collection. It featured distressed denim in various iterations, as well as boxy wool tweed jackets layered over floral and fringed skirts that were held up by leather harnesses. The collection felt a bit dystopian but wholly appropriate given today’s political climate.
Wesley Harriott’s collection drew from the designer’s neighborhood in Tottenham, London and from the women in

Bananarama own a corner of the 80s every bit as idiosyncratic, influential and compelling as Pet Shop Boys or The Smiths, going on the road cemented their position as one of the most important female pop groups the UK has ever produced. Their influence can be seen in some of the most successful British girl groups of all-time, including the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud and Little Mix. With an incredible 32 song reaching the Top 50 in the UK Singles Charts – a veritable pantheon of hits – Bananarama hold the Guinness World Record for being the girl band with the most chart entries in history. They were the girl group that defined the 80s. After a near 30 year absence since their last performance, Sara, Keren and Siobhan reunited last year for what was remarkably Bananarama's FIRST ever tour together – and what a success it was, with a sell-out run of 22 dates across the UK. Now fans are able to relive this spectacular with the live album release of their Eventim Hammersmith Apollo Show. Recorded on Sunday 29th November 2017, the recording captures the sensational renewed vigour of the band which saw them garner rave reviews from both devout audience members, and critics alike. Bananarama were back. "A truly stonking come back" proclaimed The Times, "Bananarama return to deliver hits on the stage.. to epic proportions" commented The Guardian. The trio wowed fans with an incredible set of trademark hits, including 'Robert De Niro's Waiting', 'Cruel Summer', 'Love In The First Degree' and 'Venus'.

London Fashion Week Goes Fur-Free

ANIMALS UNITED: Fur will no longer be used on the London Fashion Week catwalks, as of this month.
The British Fashion Council made an announcement Friday morning confirming that, after conducting a survey with all on-schedule designers, it has decided to ban fur from London’s catwalks.
The news comes on the heels of Burberry’s announcement to ban fur from its collections, with the exception of shearling, and follows the example set by brands including Gucci, Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors, among others.
In the last year, anti-fur activists have been making their presence felt outside BFC venues, demanding that the organization imposes a total fur ban on catwalk and presentation designers.
Until now, the BFC has said that while it advises designers to operate in sustainable ways, it cannot interfere with their creative process.
“The BFC supports the creativity of designers and keeps an open dialogue with the industry, from designers to media, retailers, business leaders, government and global brands while encouraging designers to make ethical choices when it comes to their selection of materials and supply chain,” the organization said, following the announcement.
The survey conducted on fur debate was part of the BFC’s Positive Fashion initiative,

Alive and Kicking: London Men’s Designers Setting the Fashion Agenda

LONDON — With a thinning calendar and the absence of big-name brands — from J.W. Anderson to Grace Wales Bonner and Craig Green, this season at least, while he shows at Pitti — some in the industry have been wondering whether London Fashion Week Men’s can hold its own for much longer.
The event, which this year has dwindled to three days from four, is not giving up and a small, yet noteworthy, group of young designers is moving to the forefront, moving the needle on men’s wear by approaching genderless dressing in new ways, and experimenting with silhouettes and sustainable fabrics.
Retailers are paying attention, too, and are looking to London, which kick-starts the European men’s fashion calendar, to set the mood of the season and act as a crucible for trends and ideas.
“London is the first to present its collections, so it sets the tone for us of what’s to come. Despite all the big name exits, the event is still relevant and it’s important for us to attend and support our home-grown talent,” said David Aquilina, head of men’s wear buying at Harvey Nichols.
For Browns, the British retailer that made its name supporting emerging talent, there’s still an array of promising

Red Valentino’s London Flagship Gets a Makeover for ‘Chelsea in Bloom’

MAY FLOWERS: Red Valentino is joining in the celebrations for “Chelsea in Bloom” — a long-standing London tradition that sees Chelsea retailers flood their storefronts with flowers — with a new window installation and a collection of punchy, floral T-shirts, presented at the brand’s London flagship on Sloane Square.
To pay homage to the “Summer of Love” theme for this year’s “Chelsea in Bloom” initiative, the label created a large-scale installation that spells the word “Love” and features on its window. It’s decorated with peonies, cestrum and dianthus — a selection of red flowers chosen by floral designer Larry Walshe.
The brand also got in the floral mood by lining their signature bouquet-printed clothing across its Chelsea boutique’s walls and joined forces with illustrator Ollie St Clair Terry to create a new red-and-blue floral print.

During an event to mark the start of “Chelsea in Bloom,” St Clair Terry was stationed at the center of the shop floor demonstrating the screen-printing technique he used as part of his collaboration with the brand.
The print is presented on 100 limited-edition T-shirts and Terry called the tie-in a “perfect dream”: “Working with them was incredible, a lot of my work features floral and fauna so it ticked all the boxes of how I

A$AP Bari Reportedly Arrested For London Hotel Sexual Assault

The alleged incident occurred in a London hotel last July.

A$AP Bari Arrested for Sexual Assault in London

A$ AP Bari has to answer for his alleged crime. Today (May 18), the A$ AP Mob founder was arrested in London during a layover over a sexual assault charge.

Back in July 2017, a video clip of A$ AP Bari assaulting a woman in a hotel room went viral. In the clip he is seen demanding sex from the woman, saying “You f*cked my assistant, now you are going to f*ck me.” In the video he is also seen removing the sheet under which the naked woman was cowering.

After the video was taken down, A$ AP Bari initially said the video had been doctored before admitting that it was indeed him in the footage. He apologized and insisted he and the woman in question had worked things out, and were still friends.

However, by late 2017 the victim, going by Jane Due, sued Bari for sexual assault. The authorities in London reportedly made Bari aware that they wanted to talk to him about the case.

Fast forward to Tuesday (May 15) and Bari got picked up during a layover in London. TMZ reports that the VLONE founder was arrested at Heathrow Airport. Despite bailing out, his passport was confiscated, so he can’t leave town.

Matchesfashion.com Unveils Colville in London

CALLING COLVILLE: Matchesfashion.com has launched Colville, a contemporary label, with an installation at the retailer’s town house in London’s Marylebone.
Named after artist David Hockney’s Seventies residence, the brand is the brainchild of Molly Molloy, Kristin Forss and Lucinda Chambers. Design directors Molloy and Forss honed their skills at the Italian brand Marni for more than 10 years and worked with Chambers, who styled the label.
The designers describe their label as “personal, modern and eclectic, fearless, sensitive, eccentric and rigorous” and said during a walk-through that it’s an amalgamation of Chambers’, Forss’ and Molloy’s arty styles.
There is a focus on color, self-expression and texture.
The 30-piece offering is filled with layer-able pieces including tailored outerwear, cropped parkas, graphic printed dresses, skirts, jacquard knits and trousers.
The trio has also teamed with jewelry designer Vicki Sarge and milliner Stephen Jones on accessories. Prices range from 345 pounds for a pair of shoes to 1,560 pounds for a coat.
It will be sold exclusively at the British retailer.
“We love working together, we knew we could create a brand that we all wanted to wear and it felt very natural,” said Molloy.
Forss said the inspiration was “the women we know, who are intelligent and exciting and who

Victoria Beckham Gears Up for 10-Year Anniversary, Plans London Show

LONDON — Victoria Beckham plans to mark her decade in business with a series of events, including a 10th anniversary fashion show during London Fashion Week in September.
The big year will start with a change to the way Beckham shows her collections. The company said fall will be showcased via “intimate presentations” at the James Burden Mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, recalling the early appointments Beckham held in New York for the then-fledgling business.
The show will take place during London Fashion Week in September, which runs from the 14th to the 18th of the month. The company said it plans to mark the anniversary with other initiatives throughout the year, including special pieces and activations.
The 10-year anniversary comes just months after Victoria Beckham Ltd. brought in NEO Investment Partners, a private investment firm based in London, as a new shareholder.
The 30 million pound investment from NEO has been earmarked to enhance the brand’s digital and physical retail presence, drive growth in core categories and launch into new categories and collaborations. The company also plans to move to new west London premises in the spring.
The brand produces the main line Victoria Beckham, a sister line called Victoria Victoria Beckham, accessories, footwear

London College of Fashion Spotlights MA Men’s Wear Collections

FRESH TALENT: London College of Fashion’s graduating MA men’s wear students showcased their collections on Friday with a runway show ahead of London Fashion Week Men’s.
Ten students from the fashion design technology men’s wear course presented their ranges at St John’s Smith Square in Westminster, in the show styled by Adele Cany. The strongest lineups came from Hanni Yang, Ying Yi Lu, Hengmin Lu, Sohyeon Park and Xu Bo.
Yang, who has worked with Teatum Jones and Céline, explored pattern-cutting and worked scarves onto the garments. She sent out a range of tailored-yet-relaxed looks and draped burgundy and cream silk scarves over a white men’s wear shirt and burgundy trousers.
Ying Yi Lu looked to young boys of the Victorian era and focused on tailoring, as in a cropped blue pinstripe suit. Lu topped off the looks with sailor style hats done in collaboration with Atelier Millinery.
Hengmin Lu — who has worked with Ports 1961 — was inspired by the architecture of the Chairman Mao era. Lu explored functionality and pattern cutting as seen on a long brown coat, worn over a white shirt with a mandarin collar and white knee-length shorts. The student teamed with JKJY Handcraft Fashion Ltd. Shanghai on

London Fashion Week Men’s Fall 2018: Inspirations

From skiing to winning the lottery, London men’s wear designers looked to a wide range of subjects for inspiration for their fall collections. Here, some of the topics that sparked their creativity ahead of the shows, which begin on Saturday.
“This season we celebrate the 70th  anniversary of the Trialmaster jacket, which gave me an opportunity to revisit our British roots and present our Made in U.K. collection. Looking through our Trialmaster history led me to explore English youth subcultures and how our jackets have been adopted and customized since the Fifties. The iconic silhouettes from this era including the field, parka and biker jackets have been updated this season with added functionality and modern fabrications. The hero piece of the collection is the anniversary Trialmaster, which is entirely manufactured in the U.K., in a new tumbled coated cotton and reflective tape with badges, celebrating our heritage.” — Delphine Ninous, creative director, Belstaff
“A deep dive into the big blue. The collection stands as a creative call to arms and focuses on responsible design and sourcing to protect both planet and wearer.” — Christopher Raeburn

Tour of London

A Texan was taking a taxi tour of London and was in a hurry. As they went by the Tower of London the cabby explained what it was and that construction
started in 1346 and it was completed in 1412.

The Texan replied, “Shoot, a little ol’ tower like that? In Houston we’d have that thing up in two weeks!”

The cab passed the House of Parliament next, the cabby stating that it started construction in 1544 and was completed 1618.

“Boy, we put up a bigger one than that in Dallas and it only took a year!”

As they passed Westminster Abbey the cabby was silent.

“Whoa! What’s that over there?” asked the Texan.

“Darned if I know, wasn’t there yesterday…”

J.W. Anderson Nixes London Men’s Show to Pursue Coed Model

HIS AND HERS: The coed juggernaut keeps gathering steam.
One of London’s most anticipated men’s shows, J.W. Anderson, will vacate that calendar from January and shift to a coed display timed with the British capital’s fashion week for women in February.
The fall 2018 collections are to be paraded jointly on Feb. 17, and the London-based brand will stage two shows a year and not four.
In the past month alone, Balenciaga and Salvatore Ferragamo are among brands shifting to a combined women’s and men’s format from next season.
Etro, Dsquared2, Calvin Klein, Burberry, Kenzo, Moschino, Vivienne Westwood, Tom Ford and Cédric Charlier are among others to have already jumped on the bandwagon.
Generally, having one display instead of two per season allows brands to reduce costs, while presenting a cohesive fashion message that works for many labels in an increasingly gender-blurry world — and one increasingly thin on men’s fashion publications.
Prized for his fast-paced shows and daring designs, Anderson was recently honored by the British Fashion Council as British Designer of the Year for Women’s Wear for his J.W. Anderson collection and Accessories Designer of the Year for Loewe during a gala event at Royal Albert Hall.

Temperley London Pre-Fall 2018

Alice Temperley referenced a myriad of influences — such as 20th-century female explorers, nature, archeology and Peter Beard’s travel journals — for pre-fall. The Temperley woman was a dynamic, wandering traveler who was on a journey and spent her days exploring.
Temperley juxtaposed feminine aspects of the range with more masculine shapes, which added a cool edge to her relaxed and contemporary lineup of daywear, tailoring and eveningwear.
She incorporated cotton drill men’swear tailoring, oversized silhouettes and cinched-in waists against soft chiffon fabrics and florals. There was a jumpsuit that featured a bold graphic embroidery influenced by Tibetan Tiger rugs. A tailored khaki suit was belted at the waist. The jacket, which came a bit oversized, was paired with wide-leg cropped trousers.
For eveningwear, she concentrated on spines and nature as embellishments. She employed sequins and mirrored Perspex, which were hand-cut. She looked at the spines of leaves, animal prints and fossils and devised geometric patterns, which were hand-sewn as accents on floor-sweeping gowns and jumpsuits.
The designer worked in a palette filled with camel, green, khaki, dark olive, pecan, saffron, savannah, scarlet, turmeric and vermilion.

Pawsons Host Dinner to Mark Trophy Design for London Fashion Awards

TROPHY HUSBAND: The prince of minimalist design, John Pawson, has a long history of setting some big challenges for the craftsmen at Swarovski, and the crystal trophy with its convex lens that he’s designed for the 2017 Fashion Awards in London is the latest in a long line.
“It’s the most simple of forms — a cylinder — but it’s only faceted on one side, which is unusual,” said Pawson from his basement kitchen in London’s Holland Park, where he and his wife Catherine hosted a dinner to mark the trophy’s reveal ahead of the awards, which will take place in partnership with Swarovski on Dec. 4 at the Royal Albert Hall.
There was a problem with the colors, too: Each crystal cylinder has a lacquer “thread” of a different color streaking through the center. Because it’s impossible to put certain materials through crystal, Pawson and Swarovski had to create an acrylic tube to hold the colors — which include gold, silver, platinum and ebony — in place.
The two have traveled this winding road before: In 2011, Pawson created a work called “Perspectives,” which involved a Swarovski-made concave crystal meniscus — the largest lens possible to manufacture. It was a feat of
