Why 20-Year-Old Says She Wants To Marry Man Who Has Been Physical With Her

Reeve, 20, says she is engaged to David, 30, whom she describes as the man of her dreams … even though she has said he has been physical with her in the past.

“He did punch me in the arm and push me under the fridge, but it’s because I deserved it,” says Reeve in the video above. “I trust him now, and I feel like our relationship is stronger, and I know that he’s not going to do it again … If I was in danger and I wasn’t happy, I wouldn’t have the ring on my finger.”

But Reeve’s father, Kim, and her sister, Riley, fear that Reeve could be making the biggest — even the deadliest — mistake of her life.

“I will do whatever it takes to protect my sister from her jealous, controlling fiancé,” says Riley, explaining that her sister has previously told her about what she calls other abusive and controlling incidents, allegations Reeve has since recanted.

Kim, who claims he has seen bite marks on Reeve’s arms and bruising on her neck, says, “I’m very afraid that David will hurt her again.”

David, who says he regrets punching and pushing Reeve, complains that the biggest issue in their relationship is Reeve’s family. “Kim won’t shut up for five seconds to hear what his daughter has to say to him,” he says. “Reeve’s father to me is a waste of my time.”

Does Dr. Phil think Reeve should walk down the aisle? And what does Robin McGraw, who has made it her life’s mission to help empower women through her foundation When Georgia Smiled, think? Clerk Who Refuses To Marry LGBT Couples Performed Trans Man’s Marriage

A county clerk in Kentucky who petitioned the Supreme Court to allow her to refuse to wed LGBT couples unknowingly married a trans man and a pansexual woman, the couple says.

Camryn Colen and his wife, Lexie, said they were wed in February by Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis. Davis has made headlines for refusing to issue any marriage licenses after the Supreme Court declared gay marriage legal nationwide in June.

Davis issued the marriage certificate without asking for Colen’s birth certificate, which identifies him as a female, he told the Courier-Journal.

“She saw just a straight couple in love, and she should see everybody like that,” he told the newspaper. ”She shouldn’t just see straight couples like that.”

The couple joined about 100 people who protested outside Davis’ office on Saturday, The Daily Independent in Ashland reported.

Since going public with his story, Colen has been flooded with support from local LGBT couples who were denied licenses by the clerk, he told BuzzFeed.

“It was one thing to have the government say no to your marriage, but to have one person do it is something else,” he told the website.

On Friday, Davis filed an emergency request with the court to put a temporary hold on a lower court ruling that effectively forces her to begin marrying gay couples. Doing so would violate her religious beliefs, the petition says.

“She holds an undisputed sincerely-held religious belief that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, only,” the petition says. “Thus, in her belief, [same-sex marriage] is not, in fact, marriage.”

Davis could not immediately be reached for comment.

Florida Man Fired After Facebook Post Saying He Wants To Marry His Dog

Ryan Uhler thought he was being funny when he took to Facebook to compare marrying his dog to same-sex marriage, but he quickly found himself in the doghouse at work.

Uhler, 32, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida, posted the following message the day after the Supreme Court’s June 26 ruling that gay marriage is legal everywhere, according to TheBlaze.com.

”How is marrying a dog different if you love them? Today I hope we can focus on doggy-style love. I love my dog Rocco, and he loves me. Hopefully one day we can be married.”

On Tuesday, his employer, Grace Investment Group, fired him from his position as a digital marketing specialist.

“I was blindsided,” he told The Huffington Post. “I didn’t think anyone there knew how to use Facebook.”

Uhler told The Huffington Post he didn’t mean anything derogatory by the post, and has no problem with the Supreme Court’s decision.

However, he also admits being aware that likening same-sex marriage to an animal wedding is a cliche often used by critics of LGBT rights.

“I’m very neutral about politics. Sometimes, I will try and get a reaction to spark comments and responses.” Uhler told The Huffington Post. “I really didn’t want to offend. I have gay people I know and love and I wouldn’t want to offend them, but they know my sense of humor.”

He said he simply likes to go on Facebook and “stir the pot” sometimes in “either direction,” he said, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Uhler said company officials told him the Facebook post was the reason he was being fired and claimed they told him they were uncomfortable with the connotations of bestiality.

“It wasn’t about that at all,” he said. “It’s about loving a dog. People have told me, ‘I have a dog and I’d make that joke too.'”

Grace Investment Group hasn’t confirmed whether the post was why Uhler was canned, but it doesn’t have to: Florida is an “at will” state, which means employers can fire workers for any reason and without notice, according to WTSP.com.

Uhler, a married man, may be out of work, but he joked to NBC-2 that he would indeed marry Rocco if he were allowed.

However, he’s not laughing about being unemployed.

“The reason I’m coming forward about this is that I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake I did about posting jokes like this on Facebook,” he told HuffPost.

After 54 Years Together, Jack Evans And George Harris Become First Same-Sex Couple To Marry In Dallas

They waited over half a century to say “I do.”

On Friday, Jack Evans, 85, and George Harris, 82, became the first same-sex couple to wed in Dallas County, Texas.

According to NBC 5 News, the octogenarians were the first of 170 same-sex couples to be married in Dallas County on Friday. Their nuptials came just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision to legalize gay marriage nationwide.

Evans and Harris have been together for more than 54 years.

“You would have been blown away by the crowd there, there must have been 450 people there, people waiting to get married, reporters. It was amazing. Just amazing,” Evans told People magazine about the unforgettable moment. “Ten years ago [marriage equality] was not within the realm of possibility.”

jack evans marriage

Evans (left) and Harris show their marriage license after being the first couple to receive it from the Dallas County Clerk on June 26, 2015.

Evans and Harris have reportedly spent decades fighting for gay rights and marriage equality, founding both the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce and The Dallas Way, a project aimed at preserving and documenting the history of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the city.

“Our real focus has been our legacy for the community, that our whole lives have been trying to improve, to encourage the young people to make a difference,” Harris told D Magazine last year. “They think they can walk down Cedar Springs holding hands, and it’s just automatically come to that, but there was a lot of struggle to get there.”

Prior to the Supreme Court’s ruling last week, Texas had been one of 13 states where gay marriage was banned. However, the battle is still not over. On Sunday, the state’s attorney general Ken Paxton (R) announced that county clerks in Texas will still be able to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples based on religious objections.

Iggy Azalea Says Swaggy P Wants R. Kelly To Sing “Marry the Pu**y” At Their Wedding

Iggy Azalea and Nick Young have already begun to plan their wedding in private and the Australian rapper recently let one of the proposed details be known publicly.

While riding around for The Late Late Show with James Corden‘s popular series, “Carpool Karaoke,” she claims that her Swaggy fiance wants the Pied Piper to sing a song at their reception probably best reserved for the wedding night.

“Nick really wants to have R. Kelly perform at our wedding so he can sing ‘Marry the Pu**y” with R. Kelly,” the co-writer of “Fancy” exclaimed. The song she’s referring to is a non-single cut off the R&B star’s the twelfth studio album, Black Panties, which was released in December 2013. The record implores lyrics such as “This is a sex proposal/I just wanna marry the pu**y” and “Yeah I spank that pu**y like it’s so naughty/And I drive that pu**y crazy/That’s my Bugatti.”

What’s the likelihood of this marriage going the distance again?

Frida Giannini, Patrizio di Marco to Marry

TYING THE KNOT: Former Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and president and chief executive officer Patrizio di Marco are starting a new chapter. The designer and di Marco, who are partners in life and share a daughter, are planning to tie the knot on June 5, according to sources.
The date could afford double celebrations as it is also the executive’s birthday. Details are being kept under wraps, but sources speculate the wedding could be taking place in Sabaudia, a beach resort about 60 miles from Rome, and a go-to vacation spot for Giannini.
The designer and di Marco have been keeping a low profile since their abrupt departures from the Italian luxury group earlier this year, but are said to have reached an agreement with Gucci that settles all contractual issues. The development puts to rest speculation that Giannini was considering seeking damages following her sudden exit from the group. Gucci declined to comment.

How Captain Von Trapp Chose Who to Marry on ‘The Sound of Music!’

The hills are apparently still alive as The Sound of Music celebrates its 50th Anniversary this month. There’s been a recent discovery of a never seen before authentic “Pros and Cons” list inside the props box from the movie set. It’s an actual chart that Captain Von Trapp made to help him decide which woman he should marry and become the new mother of his 7 children. Let’s peek, shall we?

Maria VS Baroness Elsa

Baroness Elsa

PROS

1. She’s got that classy, reserved icy blond, Austrian nobility thing going on. I’m up for the challenge of making her bleat like a mountain goat!

2. Says wise and profound things. “Somewhere out there is a lady who I think will never be a nun.” I wonder what she’d say if she knew I was hoping for a nun who will never EVER be a lady?

3. Easy to end a date with. You don’t have to launch into a whole song and dance routine, “So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, au revoir, sayonara, shalom, etc.” It’s just “bye-bye bitch.”

CONS

1. Not a performer and she’s a bit selfish. I doubt she’d walk out to finish my song for me if I were to have an emotional break down on stage in the middle of some lyrics about a flower, which I know like the back of the hand of the Swiss Miss hot cocoa girl.

2. She doesn’t really care for yodeling. Which means my best joke will be lost on her. “Knock-knock. Who’s There? Lil Ole Lady. Lil Ole Lady Who?” Ha ha ha!

3. Given half a chance, she’ll send all 7 of my children to Boarding School. Wait, this goes on the pros list.

Fraulein Maria

PROS

1. I definitely would know how to handle a problem like Maria. I fantasize about being her personal troubleshooter.

2. Has a mathematician background, is good with numbers and can count like nobody’s business. “You are 16 going on 17.” Maybe one day she’ll star in a movie called “10” and introduce me to Bo Derek.

3. Won’t be a chronic dieter like my buddy’s wives. The only scales she’s obsessed with are Do-Re-Mi.

4. I love a woman who’s easy to buy for on Valentine’s or Mother’s Day. I have my list for Maria for the next 5 years — Bright copper kettles, Crisp apple strudel, Warm woolen mittens, etc. And I don’t even have to buy fancy giftwrap (brown paper packages tied up with strings) Easy to please. Aww screw it. Something tells me she’d be just as happy if I didn’t cut the whiskers off kittens.

5. Somewhere in her youth or childhood, she must’ve done something good. She must deserve me!

6. Ever see anyone blush like that? I bet she’ll make a beautiful blushing bride. Of course that could be because the train on her wedding gown will be so long and heavy, half of Salzburg will have to carry it down the aisle for her.

7. Whenever there’s a thunder and lightning storm, she’ll invite strange people into our bed. Mmm, kink is one of my favorite things.

CONS

1. She brought music back into the house. And now my kids play the Top 40 at decibels that would blow the roof off a Nazi regime.

2. Obsessed with puppets. Which means she thinks she can pull my strings.

3. She’s not great with names. Keeps forgetting “Kurt.” How will I feel if one night in bed she moans (off key) and says, “Mmm, that feels so good. God bless you, Whatsyourname?”

4. Tea, a drink with jam and bread. Seriously woman? Every single solitary time? I’m a Starbucks shareholder myself.

5. Hates whistles. I suppose that twisted Snow White fantasy I have of her singing, “Just Whistle While You Work” while sweeping the front porch in a Nun’s habit is out of the question?

6. She might force me to wear boxers she stitches from our dining room blinds. Yeah, but that’s an easy fix. Sell her Singer. It’ll be curtains for that sewing machine of hers!

Hey! As long as I’m considering Thrifty Recycling Movie Heroines, I know a racy raven-haired vixen who also made her gown out of the living room drapes. Maybe there’s a 3rd option here. Who says I can’t be a Cross-Film Actor and marry . . .

Scarlett O’Hara

PROS

1. That 18 inch waist 2. Never worries about anything — she’ll think about it tomorrow. We all know what “it” is. Heh heh.

CONS

1. Oh who the hell cares anymore? Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.

Any woman who can tilt her head like this without a neck ache is the one for me!

North Carolina Senate Votes To Allow Officials To Refuse To Marry Same-Sex Couples

By Marti Maguire

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb 25 (Reuters) – The North Carolina state Senate voted on Wednesday to allow government officials to refuse to marry same-sex couples without fear of being fired, adding a new twist to the gay marriage debate in a region where such unions have faced strong opposition.

North Carolina, which began allowing gay marriages last year to comply with a federal court order, had banned same-sex matrimony in a 2012 referendum. It is among 37 states where gay marriage is legal.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month agreed to decide whether states can ban gay marriage in a ruling that will determine whether 13 remaining state bans will be struck down.

In North Carolina, some of the civil officers who perform marriages, known as magistrates, threatened to resign rather than perform unions that ran counter to their religious beliefs.

While the bill does not mention gay marriage explicitly, it allows employees to recuse themselves from performing marriages by citing a “sincerely held religious objection.”

After submitting their objections in writing, magistrates would be barred from performing any marriage for six months or until they removed their objections.

Senate leader Phil Berger, the Republican who sponsored the bill, cited a case in his home county in which a magistrate was forced to resign over his refusal to perform gay marriages.

Berger said the bill will allow the state to comply with the law while preserving religious freedom.

“While the courts have taken steps to provide special rights to some, we must not ignore the constitutionally protected rights of others,” Berger said in a statement after the bill passed.

Supporters of gay marriage condemned the legislation, drawing parallels to officials’ past reluctance to perform bi-racial marriages.

“This discriminatory bill treats gay and lesbian couples as second-class citizens and distorts the true meaning of religious freedom,” Reverend Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, director of the Campaign for Southern Equality, said in a statement.

The bill, which also applies to the registers of deeds who issue marriage certificates, would require local governments to ensure that eligible couples are not denied the right to marry.

The bill passed the Republican-controlled Senate by a 32-16 vote and heads next to the Republican-controlled state House, where final action on the bill could come as early as Friday. (Editing by Jonathan Kaminsky and Steve Orlofsky)

The Supreme Court will decide shortly whether to review and decide a marriage equality case before its current term ends in June. Many are praying for this, eager to wrap up an issue long past the tipping point that folks are sick of discussing.

But there is a more important reason the Court should act now: to halt the severe harm that continuing denial of the freedom to marry inflicts every day on countless same-sex couples, their children, and their extended families and friends. It matters whether this harm ends in June 2015 or lingers into the future.

The long-building national consensus for marriage equality reached critical mass after the Supreme Court’s 2013 Windsor decision held it unconstitutional for the federal government to refuse to recognize the lawful marriages of same-sex couples. A flood of state and federal court decisions over the last eighteen months has applied Windsor to invalidate the marriage bans of the majority of states.

The first batch of these cases reached the Supreme Court in September, in the form of requests for review by states whose laws had been struck down. But because all the decisions went in one direction, there was no legal conflict for the Court to resolve — the usual basis for granting “cert.”

The Court’s denial of review delayed the nationwide elimination of discrimination and its harms — but it also made all those favorable decisions final, allowing marriages to go forward in five more states (up from 19) and setting off a ripple effect that has now brought the freedom to marry to thirty-five states (with Florida coming on line in a few days as number 36), plus four with pro-equality rulings on appeal. In comparison, only thirty-four states permitted interracial couples to marry when Loving v. Virginia was decided in 1967.

More recently, a handful of courts have gone the other way — most significantly, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which in one fell swoop in November reversed pro-equality rulings in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Marriage rights advocates are now asking the Supreme Court to review this decision and one issued by a federal district judge in Louisiana upholding that state’s marriage ban. Their chances are good, because the Sixth Circuit created a classic “circuit split,” though it is still possible the Court will opt to let litigation play out first in the remaining states.

Denial of review now would have no silver lining. It would simply entrench discrimination in five states, perpetuating needless injury to thousands of families. That’s why several organizations advocating for the rights of same-sex couples and their families (including Freedom to Marry, Family Equality Council, and PFLAG) filed a brief (prepared by my law firm) urging the Supreme Court to grant review and halt the ongoing harms of marriage discrimination.

In the 15 states without the freedom to marry, families suffer concrete harm every day, deprived of literally hundreds of government benefits and protections as well as private benefits awarded based on marital status.

For example, Steven Rains and Don Condit of Fort Worth, Texas, together for 31 years, married in California in 2008 but were treated as unmarried back home in Texas. When Don died unexpectedly, Steven was omitted from his death certificate, excluded from making decisions about his cremation, and is now deprived of surviving spouse benefits based on Dan’s military service and private pensions.

Another couple, April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse of Hazel Park, Michigan, have been together more than eight years and are raising three adopted special needs children. Because Michigan bars same-sex couples from marrying and all unmarried couples from adopting together, Jayne adopted two of the children herself and April adopted the third — but neither is recognized as a parent of the other’s children. This deprives all three children of the protections and stability of having two legal parents.

Exclusion from marriage also inflicts severe dignitary injury — the impact of being treated as second-class citizens with second class relationships. These injuries can be quite tangible, particularly the psychological harm to children of being told by society that their families are less real and worthy of respect than those of different-sex parents. In Windsor, the Supreme Court recognized that failing to respect existing marriages “demeans” couples and “humiliates” their kids. Total exclusion from marriage is at least as demeaning and humiliating.

Even couples deemed married in their home states are harmed by continuing marriage discrimination in other states. Every time they travel to a non-recognition state they risk being treated as unmarried in the event of a medical or other emergency. They need to obtain second parent adoptions or create living wills and powers of attorney to try to replicate the rights they would have automatically if their marriages were respected. Couples who fail to anticipate these problems may face grievous results, such as exclusion from the hospital bedside of a dying spouse.

These harms happen every day and may be catastrophic — robbing a surviving spouse of a lifetime of earned retirement benefits or leaving a child parentless when the biological or adoptive parent dies and the state does not recognize the surviving partner as a parent.

There is simply no good reason to inflict these risks and harms on American families for another day, much less another year. The country is ready for full recognition of the freedom to marry. Let’s hope the Supreme Court is as well.

Elton John And David Furnish Marry In England

LONDON (AP) — Entertainer Elton John and longtime mate David Furnish officially married Sunday on the ninth anniversary of the day they entered into a civil partnership.

The couple converted their civil bond under new laws implemented in England earlier this year that allow same-sex marriages.

On Sunday the couple posted an Instagram picture of themselves preparing to sign official documents. “That’s the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!” they wrote.

John and Furnish planned a celebration at their estate near Windsor Castle west of London. An A-list crowd is expected — even if the festivities are likely to be much more sedate than the parties in John’s hell-raising rock ‘n’ roll days.

The singer — known for an impressive string of hits dating back decades — promised to post pictures of the festivities to fans around the world.

The nuptials came as no surprise: John had tweeted about his plans earlier in the week, and earlier in the year had praised England for embracing same-sex marriage. He said there had been a remarkable change in a country where homosexual acts had long been deemed criminal offenses.

John said the wedding would be a joyous occasion shared with the couple’s two sons, Zachary and Elijah.

The menu was traditional and posh, featuring wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, beef short rib with caramelized onion pie and warm chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert, according to a photo of the menu posted by Brooklyn Beckham, son of soccer start David Beckham and designer Victoria Beckham.

The champagne was Laurent-Perrier.

In his post, Brooklyn Beckham offered congratulations to “Uncle Elton and Uncle David.”

John said earlier this year that he and Furnish planned to take advantage of the changes to the law, even though they already had a civil bond recognized by the courts.

“We shouldn’t just say, ‘Oh well, we have a civil partnership, we’re not going to bother to get married,” he said.

John and Furnish met in 1993. Both have been active in a number of charities, with John focusing on efforts to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 in recognition of his charitable works. On Sunday the couple posted an Instagram picture of themselves preparing to sign official documents. “That’s the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!” they wrote.
