Giuseppe Zanotti Partners With Rita Ora on an Exclusive Footwear Capsule

LONDON — Giuseppe Zanotti is at it again, with plans to release yet another celebrity collaboration, this time with Rita Ora.
The footwear designer, who has worked in the past with musicians including Jennifer Lopez and Zayn Malik, asked Ora for pictures of her favorite shoes and then let his imagination take flight.
“I love working with artists because they’re very efficient,” he said, adding that Ora loves fashion and he loves music. “In both our lines of profession we need to research everything, everywhere and every day. She’s very multitasking, and I admire that.”
As a result of their close collaboration, Zanotti said he was able to work in the ‘old school’ way,” meaning that he made the initial creations by hand.
“I used to buy shoes at vintage markets, cut them up and Scotch tape parts together. It’s nice after 20 years to go back to the past to work in a very artisanal way. I was painting the shoes and changing lines with scissors,” he added during an interview on the shoot with Ora.

Kering Partners With Savory Institute For Regenerative Sourcing Plan

PARIS — Kering and the Savory Institute have joined forces to apply the nonprofit’s “Land to Market” system for sourcing to the fashion industry.
Noting the industry’s part in damaging ecosystems, the luxury giant said the idea is to promote agriculture practices meant to reverse environmental damage. So-called regenerative raw materials are key to building a circular economy for the industry, and their use could be a potential game changer, the company said in a joint statement with the organization.
“Regenerative agriculture is a multibenefit solution which supports Kering’s sustainability ambitions to mitigate our environmental impacts and deliver positive outcomes along our supply chain,” said the group’s chief sustainability officer, Marie-Claire Daveu, who also heads the group’s international institutional affairs.
The company will become a “frontier founder” or partner to the Boulder-based group, and the two will work together to draw up a network of farms to supply raw materials to Kering.
Fashion companies are under increasing pressure to improve their records amidst growing consumer concern about environmental issues. Kering has positioned itself as a trailblazer on such matters in the corporate world, publishing an environmental profit and loss account for the sneaker business Puma as early as 2011, for example.

Johnny “King Nerd” Dowell has teamed with Master and Dynamic.
The London-based artist, who graduated from Central Saint Martins, has hand-engraved 10 MH40 Over-Ear headphones.
Dowell, who spent 15 years engraving at James Purdey and Sons, a British gunmaker, is known for working with some leading watch brands but had more room to play with this partnership.
“The sleek and modern designs of Master and Dynamic headphones combined with the premium quality and materials have always stood out to me as a product with engraving potential and here we are,” said Dowell. “For this particular project I was inspired by a traditional scrolling style, which starts with a nice curve and features ornate details that flow back and forth between the patterns, juxtaposing classic techniques with contemporary product.”
The headphones, which retail for $ 999, are available to purchase now. Master and Dynamic has previously worked with filmmaker Sam Kolder and architect David Adjaye.

Kenneth Cole has joined forces with Broadway’s new musical comedy, “The Prom,” to support human rights of LBGTQI+ people and equality.

THE BUDDY SYSTEM: Abercrombie & Fitch Co.’s Hollister brand has joined forces with 18-year-old Natalie Hampton and her antibullying app, Sit With Us. Hampton, a victim of bullying herself, created the app when she was 16 to help students find allies and lunch buddies at school. The app now has more than 100,000 users in eight countries.
The partnership acknowledges Hollister’s 2018 support of National Bullying Prevention Month. This year represents the brand’s sixth antibullying campaign. Kristin Scott, Hollister’s brand president, said, “Sit With Us is the perfect partnership for Hollister, aligning well with Hollister’s brand value of celebrating the freedom to belong.”

EXCLUSIVE: Karl Lagerfeld Partners With Revolve on Kaia Gerber Capsule Release

DOUBLE VISION: The Karl Lagerfeld brand has partnered with Los Angeles-based e-tailer Revolve.com for the launch of its clothing capsule designed in collaboration with model-of-the-moment Kaia Gerber.
The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia line will hit karl.com and Revolve.com on Aug. 30 for a period of two weeks before rolling out to a network of premium retailers internationally, including Selfridges, Excelsior, Breuninger and La Rinascente.
The launch will be accompanied by three events, kicking off with a party at the Revolve Social Club in Los Angeles on Aug. 30, with singer Charlotte Lawrence scheduled to provide the entertainment. The space is also to host an experiential pop-up shop dedicated to the capsule from Sept. 1. Up to 70 percent of revenues at Revolve are driven by influencers. It works with a network of global content creators, and is on track to surpass $ 1 billion in sales in 2018.

FORKING OUT: Karl Lagerfeld is branching out into silverware.
The designer is teaming with upscale French brand Christofle on a limited-edition cutlery set as part of its Mood collection. Launching in the fall, the flatware will be available in two egg-shaped storage capsules dressed in a play on shadow and light, inspired by the Art Deco movement.
Lagerfeld was one of the world’s foremost collectors of Art Deco furnishings before selling his collection at auction in 1975 — though the period continues to feed into his streamlined design aesthetic.
His designs for Christofle, which will be signed and numbered, will be available for preorder during New York Fashion Week in September at The Webster New York, the Christofle store on Madison Avenue, the Karl Lagerfeld store in SoHo and on the two brands’ respective web sites.
To coincide with London Fashion Week, they will go on preorder at Harrods department store and the Karl Lagerfeld store on Regent Street beginning Sept. 14.
As the fashion caravan moves to Paris, they will go on sale exclusively at the Christofle store on Rue Saint-Honoré and the Karl Lagerfeld boutique on Boulevard Saint-Germain from Sept. 25, before a worldwide launch on Oct. 1.

Collaborating with Woolmark, designer Phillip Lim sourced a selection of innovative fabrics and yarns to produce 24 key women’s wear pieces designed with Australian merino wool. The capsule also includes Lim’s first production of a wool puffer coat, which will be featured in the campaign.
Lim and Woolmark will host special in-store events at select Saks Fifth Avenue and Lane Crawford locations, timed with the capsule’s delivery in October.
“Our ‘Merino Series’ speaks to the spirit of individuality, a core tenet of the 3.1 Phillip Lim brand ethos,” said Lim. “For this capsule, we wanted to utilize wool in unexpected ways and reimagine its boundaries. We explored the character of a lavish nomad with colors, dusted by the sun, silhouettes patch-worked together and playful, exaggerated proportions — an eclecticism collected from travel and memory.

French luxury swimwear brand Eres is turning 50 this year. The company is rereleasing five of its signature bodies in new colors and patterns as part of a Reeditions capsule. It’s partnering with The Apartment by The Line, the New York store owned by Vanessa Traina, on a pop-up shop for the capsule in mid April.
This is the first time The Line is carrying Eres, a brand Traina has been eyeing for a while. “It’s a brand I’ve always dreamt of working with,” Traina said. “When we were building the foundations of The Line, it was built around items we all had in our closets. Eres certainly holds a prominent stake in my summer and year-round wardrobe.”
The Apartment is the only New York retailer that will carry the capsule, which consists of eight suits. Three of the shapes, the Sirene, Surligné and Niko, and two emblematic prints, the Playa and Miami, were reissued. “Women’s bodies changed, shapes changed but the more important change was the development of new fabrics with Elastane inside,” said Marie-Paule Minchelli, head of the design studio for Eres. “Eres used an exclusive fabric called Peau Douce, that’s the secret of our second skin effect.”

The fashion industry’s annual textile waste stands at an estimated 92 billion tons, a fact that motivated BYT cofounder Christina Dean, who is also the founder of sustainable fashion NGO Redress, to start the brand.
“Getting this exclusive upcycled BYT and Barneys collection, which comes with so much heart and hope for better, into one of the world’s most respected department stores talks loudly about how fashion, which has always been a reflection of our times, is changing. For me, it speaks of big changes that are already happening within consumers’ wants and wardrobes around the world,” she said.
In order to ensure the sustainability credentials of the collection, BYT worked with environmental experts Reset Carbon on a carbon footprint lifecycle analysis, from raw materials to factory, to estimate carbon savings. Results suggest that a typical BYT upcycled jacket has a 60 percent reduced carbon footprint compared with a similar jacket created using virgin materials, which is equivalent to diverting 14,882 plastic bottles from landfill.

Google has a very long and varied partner list, including Wal-Mart, Harvard Medical School and every major beauty influencer on YouTube. Over the past year, the tech giant has added more artists and designers, thanks to Google Artworks Series collaborations with Jeff Koons, Jeremy Scott, Opening Ceremony, FriendsWithYou and Skrillex, among others.

Dior Maison Partners With Themis Zouganeli on Tableware Collection

LONDON — Dior Maison has tapped Themis Zouganeli for its latest homewares collaboration.
Zouganeli and Dior Maison creative director Cordelia de Castellane, who was appointed to this position in March, were friends who shared a love of Mykonos before the collaboration came about and had discussed the possibility of working together in some capacity before the collaboration became a reality following talks with Dior in February.
The Themis Zouganeli x Dior Maison collection, called “Skorpios,” consists of tableware, including dinner plates, dessert plates, cups, espresso cups, platters and serving bowls, all of which are now available at the Dior Maison stores in London, to be followed by launches in Paris, Geneva, Monaco, New York and Asia later this month.
This collaboration follows partnerships with designers including Yann Debelle De Montby, Michael Cailloux and India Madhavi on items like a backgammon box, playing cards and ceramic plates that launched in the House of Dior boutique in London earlier this year.
Work has already begun on a second collaboration for fall 2017 between Dior Maison and Zouganeli, who launched her eponymous homewares collection, Themis Z, in May this year, following a successful career as an interior designer.

National Jewelry Institute Partners With Parsons

The National Jewelry Institute is going back to school.
Following its gala dinner at the Louvre in July, the institute will kick off its next banner initiative on Monday: a week of jewelry-centric courses held at The New School’s Parsons School of Design. The five-day program will be broken down each day into morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions will be held at a private club on Park Avenue and cover the topics of high jewelry and watches, presented by Yvonne Markowitz, curator of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Pascal Ravessoud, director of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, respectively. Afternoons will be focused on off-site visits, such as the vault of the Museum of the City of New York, Vacheron Constantin, Christian Dior, and the home of jewelry collector Susan Gutfreund. Lunches will include special guests each day, including Henri Barguirdjian, president of Graff Diamonds, Daniel Paltridge, president of Bulgari Corporation of America, and Thomas Bouillonnec, president of Piaget.
The program kicks off on Sunday evening with a cocktail party held at NJI president Judith Price’s home, and will wrap up on Friday evening with a graduation ceremony at Parsons hosted by Dean Joel Towers, where all participants will

Tod’s Partners With Net-a-porter for E-Commerce Ready-to-Wear Launch

LONDON — Net-a-porter.com has set its latest online retail exclusive, with the e-commerce site to carry Tod’s ready-to-wear collections exclusively online for two seasons.
Tod’s women’s fall collection will launch on Net-a-porter.com July 29, while the men’s line will launch on Mr Porter.com Sept. 8. Prior to the Net-a-porter partnership, Tod’s had sold its ready-to-wear collections exclusively in its own brick-and-mortar stores.

Net-a-porter.com’s partnership with Tod’s is the latest in a slew of online exclusives for the site.
In April, Net-a-porter launched Chanel’s Coco Crush fine jewelry line, marking Chanel’s first e-commerce project. A collaboration with Tom Ford followed, with the designer launching his women’s ready-to-wear on the site earlier this month, with Ford’s men’s designs to bow on Mr Porter in September. And last week, Net-a-porter launched an exclusive limited-edition capsule collection by Dolce & Gabbana, called Portofino.
Alongside an edit of Tod’s ready-to-wear collections, Net-a-porter and Mr Porter will carry a selection of footwear, bags, leather goods, luggage and accessories. Mr Porter has carried those Tod’s categories since fall 2012, and Net-a-porter since spring 2014.

GAP ATTACK: Gap is back in Germany. On line, that is.
The American casual clothing brand has partnered with German fashion e-commerce platform Zalando, which is now carrying part of the Gap collection.
To celebrate, Zalando and Gap on Thursday night took over an abandoned 19th-century carpet factory at the border of Berlin’s Spree river, an unlikely setting for an American barbeque — signaling Gap’s new direction.
Breaking with the label’s traditional monobrand brick-and-mortar store strategy, the company is collaborating for the first time with a multibrand online operator to re-enter Europe’s economically strongest, but also most notoriously difficult market. After two attempts — and retreats — to conquer Germany via classic retail in the Eighties and Nineties, withdrawing last in 2004, Gap Inc. is again venturing a comeback.
Starting May 18, selections from the Gap collections, GapKids and babyGap became available online in the 14 European countries served by Zalando.
