The 15 Best Hair Product Brands for Men

Using hair gel is one of the many ways guys can style their hair. Unlike other hair products for men like pomade and clay, however, hair gel works best when applied to damp hair—great for active guys living an on-the-go lifestyle who don’t have time to wait for their hair to dry—and will create a put-together look that will stay in place all day. But, not all gels are the same. Some brands leave you with white flakes, residue, and a crunchy style that often won’t hold its shape. That’s why we carefully combed through a slew of hair gels for men, and narrowed it down to 15 of the best ones.

Lil Yachty “Count Me In,” Snow Tha Product ft. O.T. Genasis “Help A B*tch Out” & More | Daily Visuals 3.22.18

LIL YACHTY BIRTHDAY PHOTO

Source: Alicia West / Radio One

Hip-Hop purists hate Lil Yachty like liberals hate Donald Trump, but at the end of the day they’re both still doing their thing and pissing people off (hurry up Robert Mueller!).

Today Lil Boat comes through with a desert based visual for “Count Me In” which finds the captain and his mates lamping with Danielle “Cash Me Outside” Bregoli a.k.a Bhad Bhabie. Can’t say we say that coming. Collaboration in the works?

Snow Tha Product meanwhile links up with O.T. Genasis and hit up the strip club where they make it rain for their clip to “Help A B*tch Out.” They did a lot of helping that night from the looks of it too.

Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Vee Tha Rula, Denmark Vessey, and more.

Walmart.com Apologizes for Racial Slur in Product Caption

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. today had to apologize after a vendor’s product was discovered with a caption the retailer called “appalling.”
A third-party vendor on walmart.com, the retailer’s marketplace, used a racial slur to describe the color of a product, a protective cap designed to be worn as a layer in between a person’s real hair and sewn-in hair extensions. The item was brought to light by a Twitter user.
“We are very sorry and appalled that this third-party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace,” a Wal-Mart spokeswoman said. “It’s a clear violation of our policy. The product has been removed and we’re investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”
The world’s largest retailer moved quickly to defuse the situation, replacing the “Add to Cart” button with a sold-out notice and disclaimer beneath the product that said, “While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us.”
This isn’t the first time Wal-Mart has had to pull an offensive or controversial product from its virtual shelves. A coffee mug that said “Got Retard?” a Christmas 2016 offering. The product, which was reportedly also sold

Creator of Peeple, App That Lets You Rate Other People, Sets Record Straight About Product

Do you want to know what strangers, neighbors and friends really think of you? Or what if you could rate people you like or dislike for the rest of the world to see? A new app called Peeple, slated to launch later this year, will let you do just that. Originally designed to let others rate you in the areas of personal, professional and romance — similar to the way other apps rate businesses — Peeple is making headlines and causing controversy for what some say is its potential to lead to online harassment and bullying — or even ruin lives.

Peeple’s co-creator, Julia Cordray, says, in part, that the media has overreacted to what the app actually will do, and sits down to set the record straight on Dr. Phil.

“What is it that people misunderstand about this?” Dr. Phil asks.

“With the feedback, we’ve made some really great movements toward more positivity for our app,” Cordray says. “You are not anonymous on our app, you cannot have your profile started by anybody else. You have 100 percent opt-in ability. We really want to make sure that you have full control over what goes live on our app.”

Watch the video above as Dr. Phil asks Cordray how it could have never occurred to her or her investors that this app could ruin lives. “Seriously, you went to your VCs to raise money, and nobody around the conference table said, ‘What about cyberbullying?’” he asks.

“No, that was never anybody’s concern. So you have to imagine how surprised all of us were,” she replies. “We never would intend harm with a product or app. That’s just not who we are. I didn’t really anticipate this negative attention.”

Cordray’s entire interview airs on Friday’s episode of Dr. Phil.

The Problem with Social Product Reviews

When you are an author, and you dare to write on topics outside your main field, folks who disagree with you swarm to Amazon.com to give your latest book a bad review that sounds real.

As a hypnotist, I look for three tells (that could be false-positives):

1. Review starts with “I am usually a big fan of this person but…”

2. Criticism is in the form of “War and Peace doesn’t have anything about Russia in it.” (Meaning the reader did not read the book but might have skimmed a page or two.)

3. A 2 or 3-star review, to make the ploy seem less obvious than a 1-star review.

I do not allege that these two newest reviews are fake. But these are the types you would look for right about now, with all three tells, as I start angering people with my Trump writing. But as I say, these could be false-positives. They just happen to fit the form perfectly.

I will ask those of you who read my book to confirm in the comments that these reviewers appear to have not read it. (The real readers understood the book to be about systems versus goals, not advice. The book clearly says it is not advice.)

image

Am I wrong?

Update: The tell on the second review is the two words “old hat.” That person either skimmed the book or did not read it. I think the folks who did read the book can confirm in the comments that the VERY POINT of the book is that it is contrarian advice. A real criticism might have looked like this: “His new ideas do not appeal to me.”

And any reference to “already been done” without a link or a book title where it has already been done is another eyebrow-raiser.

How Do You Know When a Beauty Product Is ‘the One’?

2015-06-28-1435528708-1448404-18beautyproductadvice.w529.h352.2x.jpg

By Jean Godfrey June

Both the dazzling appeal and the sinking horror of being a beauty editor is that a flood of shiny new products wash over your desk each day, free of charge. Your job is to try and try and try them — forever in search of something better. Even if you start to fall for something, fidelity is a sort of death, in terms of constantly coming up with new things to recommend to your readers. But in spite of it all, you still somehow manage to find the Infallible, the Kryptonite, the Desert-Island-Can’t-Live-Without, the One, the Undying.

Related: 25 Famous Women on the Best Advice They’ve Ever Given — or Received

Many of the items in my makeup bag have been there, faithfully replenished, for at least a decade: Secret Weapon hair cream from John Frieda, Secret Concealer from Laura Mercier (I know, so many secrets), Extra SPF 25 Tinted Balm from Bobbi Brown, YSL’s Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm (the name has lengthened over the years, but the gorgeousness has in no way abated), Skin Food by Weleda.

How did they get to (and maintain) their Significant Other status?

As in love, there’s the slow-burn route: In the dead-middle-utter-misery of the last recession, I heard about this shampoo called Russian Amber from Philip B. It came in a tub and smelled like fantastic, exotic honey mixed with an oud-inflected perfume … and it cost $ 140. I didn’t even bother trying it — I figured the only people even remotely pleased to hear about such a thing were the mostly male-patterned-bald bankers who’d just plunged the world into economic disaster and gotten away with it; even if some of them did have hair, I was in no mood to make a single one of them happy.

But my friend with flat, unvolumizable hair started exclaiming over it, exclaiming and exclaiming and exclaiming anew. Then another friend with overcolored, slightly frizzy hair started raving, too — her daughter chimed in: “Mommy’s hair is finally smooth and pretty.” My hair is sort of normal, but I had to try it. And: It made my hair — better. A touch of volume, a touch of smoothness, some shine … However ineffable its effects, I’d be standing in the shower and I’d think, Well, do I NEED to look especially good today? If the answer was yes, I went with the Russian Amber.

Related: How to Get Miley Cyrus’s Glitter-Streaked Hair

This is how you know. If you have to have it on the day you need to look better than you do on all the other days (and are willing to fork over the billions it costs) it’s the One, for sure.

Desperation, then, is the ultimate test. If I must have fantastic skin on a particular morning, I put Prevage Night from Elizabeth Arden on the night before; I only use it rarely, lest the magical effect (glowier, smoother, mystically dewy-fresh skin, reportedly powered by proprietary antioxidants in the formula) fade. Not that I haven’t tried every supposed skin miracle that’s come along; it’s just the Prevage — also in Philip B price territory, at $ 136, though you go through it less quickly — is always better.

I also believe in love at first sight. The minute I applied the YSL Sheer Candy in Pomegranate — it looks like a chic French lipstick in the vein of Catherine Deneuve, but is inexplicably both transparent and intensely pigmented so it brightens anyone’s entire face, without looking like … lipstick — I knew it was a forever thing. Every so often I force myself to try something that vaguely resembles it, and it’s never as good.

And sometimes the romance is based on the irrefutable evidence that it’s just plain good for you: Even though I have breakout-prone skin, I threw some serious fuel on the face-oil fire in its early days. The Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil convinced me that oils could actually benefit the greasy-complected; I tried every oil I could find, when one day I happened upon Intelligent Nutrients (the all-organic line from Aveda-founder Horst Rechelbacher) Oil Serum. Not only did it make my skin look and feel better, I somehow developed the practice of dabbing a bit of it on over my makeup whenever I looked tired before going out, instead of adding more makeup. I liked it, but it was only when I gave some to a friend recovering from a botched Mohs surgery on her face — she’d been told there was no way she’d escape a major scar — and it utterly obliterated any sign of surgery whatsoever that I fell fully and irreparably in love. Since then, the world has embraced the face oil, but still, there is only one for me.

Once you find it — after swiping your way through the beauty aisles, experimenting furiously, staying open, and perhaps risking your rent check for it — true love is the greatest. It’s that confidence-a-bottle you’ve been searching for, that dream you thought never really existed.

So, can you live without it? It’s not the One. Keep looking.

News in Brief: Hotshot Product Talking Big Game About Being Good For Consumer

BOSTON—Having made some pretty bold claims concerning the product’s effectiveness and overall value, hotshot marketing app TargetDemo is talking a big game about being good for its small-business customer base, sources confirmed Tuesday. “This high and mighty product sure has a lot of nerve to claim that it can streamline data collection and improve communication with customers,” local woman Michelle Carson said upon reading the incredibly cocky description on the TargetDemo website, noting that she would only believe the app’s similarly audacious claims about its ability to enhance profitability “when [she sees] it for [herself].” “On top of that, this big shot product apparently expects us to believe that not only does it provide 24-hour customer service and a user-friendly interface, but that it can also increase workforce productivity by 15 to 25 percent. That’s a lot of big talk right there, buddy—they must have …

Magnetic Makeup Brushes Are The Beauty Product You Never Knew You Needed

Waiting for freshly-cleaned makeup brushes to dry completely can be an overnight process. With no time to waste, we’ve tried everything from laying our beauty tools in front of a fan to blasting them with a hair dryer on low heat.

This was a problem that Australian makeup artist Rae Morris knew all too well. So she designed a set of magnetic makeup brushes that not only help people keep their vanities extremely organized, but speed up the drying process while cleaning.

rae morris magnetic brushes

Each makeup brush is made with cruelty-free hair that dries faster than synthetic substitutes, and the barrel contains a magnet that allows it to stand atop Morris’ signature steel base plate. The magnets also make it super easy to hang dry the brushes upside down — a fast-dry technique preferred by professionals because it keeps water or other liquids from seeping into the handle and helps to preserve the natural shape of the bristles.

Morris’ pro secret: After cleaning your magnetic makeup brushes, attach them to a magnetic field, such as an exhaust hood (just make sure the range is turned off). Or you can get really creative by affixing to a dish or towel rack or flexible floor lamp neck, as pictured below.

magnetic makeup brushes

magnetic makeup brushes

Morris recently expanded her magnetic range to launch the Iconic Collection, which includes her nine “can’t live without” brushes and a travel case that conveniently allows brushes to be dried upside down when you’re on the go.

While these genius tools come with a hefty price tag — the starter kit will set you back approximately $ 270 — you can save money by purchasing just a few individual brushes and the magnetic plate separately.

After considering how much we typically spend on new makeup brushes and cleaners, we’d say these are definitely worth the investment.

Watch the video below for a demonstration from Rae Morris herself on how to clean your makeup brushes:

Rae Morris provided complimentary magnetic brushes for review purposes.
