Carolina Herrera to Start Selling Bridal in London at Moda Operandi

For the first time, Carolina Herrera will be selling her wedding gowns in the U.K. through a new partnership with Moda Operandi.
From Nov. 25 to 28, a Carolina Herrera Bridal trunk show will be held at Moda Operandi’s London store in Belgravia. Shoppers will be the first to pre-order gowns from the fall 2016 collection. The alliance is in step with the American designer company’s focus on expanded global distribution. The three-day event will mark the first time Moda Operandi has gotten into bridal in such a major way.
Brides-to-be will find fluid silhouettes with embellished intricate lace scallop necklines and a bodice that appears to have a panted motif due to crystals and hand-placed lace on organza. Other styles feature chantilly and guipure lace appliqués on tulle, and sheer layers and pleats. For fall, there is also a palette of blush tones and nudes.
Since she launched her bridal collection in 1987, Herrera has dressed a range of well-known brides including, recently, model Hilary Rhoda, who wed former New York Ranger Sean Avery last month. Olivia Palermo wore a Carolina Herrera ensemble for her wedding last year. Many fans of the designer know her wedding gowns from Kristin Stewart’s “Bella Swan”

LA Fashion Week’s Bold, Seductive, Sexy Start

2015-10-11-1444604421-3151582-IMG_0654sw.JPG 2015-10-11-1444604229-2885702-IMG_0979sw.JPG

Sue Wong’s Alchemy & Masquerade 2016 line

Los Angeles Fashion Week launched on Monday, October 5th, with Arts Hearts Fashion showcasing over 30 designers at the runway at Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. It was a week of sexy artistry and provocative showmanship, showcasing new lines from established as well as break-out designers. Sue Wong, Nicole Miller, Amato Haute Couture, Gregorio Sanchez, Mister Triple X, Koco Blaq, Isabella Couture, Amren Tulano, House of Li-Jon, Michael Ngo Couture and many more.

Sue Wong design 2016

Opening night designer Sue Wong dazzled the invitation-only standing-room crowd with a breathtaking 79 look show of her 2016 Alchemy & Masquerade runway collection of intricately adorned gowns topped with soaring headpieces. The sexy, bold styles rocked the runway shifting between elegant and outrageous, in classical Sue Wong style, straddling the line between couture and wearables, all with dramatic red carpet panache. Starting with black and silver themes, in silk, lace, chiffon and ornate sequined and beading, the luxurious styles alternated from strapless gowns with exotic patterning to evening wear, cocktail dresses, a kaleidoscope of hues shifted through the show until wedding gowns and formal attire ended the evening, continuing to defy expectations with a mythic royal grace, and earthy goddess attraction.

As always Sue Wong brought in additional artists to augment her designs with Jewelry and headdresses that delighted and were extraordinary, including 31 headdresses credited to Maritza Regalado of Atzi designs who confessed to me the theatrical nature of such an ambitious show had its dangerous moments. Backstage during the event drastic re-shaping of some of her head piece designs almost happened when last minute adjustments were required due to model’s head sizes or hair designs that were unexpected. Fortunately for all, the back stage teams kept everything in perfect order as the models hit the runway and every design remain intact.

Sue Wong

Sue Wong’s show was introduced by British actor Max Ryan of “Sex and the City”. And she received a pre-show honor from the the California State Assembly with a special recognition award in honor of her excellence in Fashion across the world. “I’m getting so many awards lately,” she said, “you’d think my career is winding down, but I’m happy to announce it’s just revving up!” she said to applause holding a framed plaque from the city. Her show ended with a performance by her friend pop opera star Michael Peer, who sang the signature song from Phantom of the Opera. Sue Wong continues to show her powerful artistry has perfected the balance between theatrical red carpet wear and artistic form fitting designs, with a career command of her craft unparalleled by many designers.

Gregorio Sanchez showed a sophisticated line full of vibrant colors, classy and following the ethnic Mexican touch of his previous collections, linen silk, chiffon, silk and hand embroidered.

House of LiJon

House of Li-Jon: once again impressed with striking metal and Swarovski crystal creations, which are intricately woven ring by ring to achieve graphic patters and art designs. Her shows last year with her intricate designs were stunning, and this year continues that work with her theme; “Armored and Dangerous”, ready for war or peace if you mumur the right words to her sultry warriors as she takes fashion to the battle fields with a modern stance in the ‘Art of Chainmaille’.

Noa Designs 2016 line designed by Noa Sorell

Tuesday brought an extraordinary turn as Noa Sorrell, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last January at the age of 11, was granted an extraordinary wish from “Make a Wish Foundation” and Arts Heart Fashion, and brought her fashion designs to life on the LAFW runway. An extraordinary story, but while undergoing three months of chemotherapy she found she had a lot of time on her hands, and began drawing and designing clothes in bright colors because it cheered her up. Returning to the sewing her grandmother had taught her, she began to create the clothes in her imagination. She reached out to Make A Wish, and Noah opened up Tuesday’s show with her own collection of childrenswear, an impressive and spectacular feat; “Noa Designs”. She says; “I have worked very hard on a spring collection that that celebrates life with warm lively colors that can make anyone smile. No matter how grey you feel inside. I hope you enjoy it!”

Noa Designs 2016

Noa’s collection opened the Kidswear show, October 7th, a fan favorite which last season drew in celebrity 50-Cent to support his young son Sire’s debut on the runway. Art Hearts Fashion has granted several wishes for Make-A-Wish kids during shows in LA, NY, and Miami highlighting the two producer’s (Erin and Sarah Whitaker) commitment not just to emerging talent, but of working with many charitable organizations.

Nicole Miller 2016

Nicole Miller, another fashion heavy weight, delighted on Wednesday with her spring line, a powerful collection of colorful, body conscious women’s clothing, from evening wear to cocktail and wedding dresses. Playing with textures and earth tones, and a self professed fabric junkie, Miller’s new designs were eye catching and sleek while remaining feminine. Best known for her timeless yet form-flattering dresses, Nicole Miller draws inspiration from both sides of the pond, as she studied at the Rhode Island Schol of Design as well as l’Ecole de la chamber Syndicale de la Haute couture Parisienne. Her progressive style of clothing has been worn by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Joss Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Eva Longoria among others. Her designs have forged a legacy in the fashion world, and always remain sexy as well as aesthetic. Her line is most notable for being so ready to wear.

Stello “Hotel California” 2016 line

Stello (formerly MTCostello) followed with a wild, bodacious boundry breaking line called “Hotel California” celebrating the body and dangerous liasons. The new “Hotel California” collections falls under the glamorous spell of Hollywood, while flirting with the dangerous rock’n’roll lifestyle. A beautiful guitarist in a black full length leather gown rocked a solo performance as models displayed designs that were daring full length evening wear, to sexy playful cocktail and bedroom attire, to couture that was more suggestions of clothes, ever defying the audience’s expectations.

Mister Triple X Vortex 2016

Mister Triple X had two appearances, the Vortex swim/resort collection, with daring prints with metallic accents, and brought an exciting retro spin with his signature edge. And “One Rose”, which was a more sophisticated expression of his aesthetic. Bold prints, and audacious cuts with metallic accents took the concept of sleek and racy into a high fashion expression. Erik Rosete who designs Mister Triple X is also the founder of Arts Hearts Fashion.

How To Stop Kissing Frogs And Start Finding Your Man

Who exactly, precisely, specifically do you consider to be a quality guy? Figuring this out now doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be fluid and open to change, but it helps to at least start with some objective in mind. I’m not going to try to turn you into some high-maintenance, hyper-picky naysayer. I just want to help you stop kissing frogs and start finding your man. So let’s set some standards and start learning to reject those guys who fall so far below the bar that they make inmates look good. This is all about beginning with the end in mind (as Dr. Stephen Covey would say) and not bothering with a hound dog when what you really want is someone with a pedigree — or at the very least, someone who’s housebroken and won’t gnaw on the furniture!

Look, I understand the appeal of the hound dog. I’ve heard that ol’ boys’ song and dance many times before. You have to understand: The qualities that initially attract you to a man are not necessarily the ones that will make him a good long-term partner. If you are genuinely looking to settle down and you still don’t understand that the guy chasing you may not be the person you want raising your children or being there for you through thick and thin, then it’s time we get you a plan, an emotional compass, and start changing your selection criteria immediately.

The One Thing You Must Do Before You Can Find True Love

Does that mean there’s anything wrong with somebody who’s fun on a date, a good dancer, handsome and supercool? Absolutely not. In fact, you may consider these conditions to be necessary and they may be, but that certainly does not mean those traits are sufficient to sustain what you’re looking for.

I don’t mean to make this sound like a job with no fun, spontaneity or intrigue — because this should be an exciting process. But we might as well make sure you are enjoying yourself with the right kind of guys, that is, those who have at least some chance of being “the one.” That means you need to stop spending time around people who you absolutely, positively, drop-dead know for sure are not going to lead you anywhere.

Don’t go barhopping just because you are scared to be alone. If what you are looking for is a meaningful, committed partner, then you are going to have to stay on the relationship highway and quit going down the doesn’t-call-you-back dirt roads, the better-than-nothing dead-end streets, and the he-ain’t-much-but-he’s-mine detours. If you want what you want when you want it and what you want is a real, no-kidding, quality partner and when you want it is now (or yesterday before noon) instead of five years from now or never, then you don’t want to confuse aimless social activity with social productivity.

Here’s an attitude adjustment for you: Decide right now that you would rather be happy alone than miserable with somebody else. Decide that you will not choose some guy out of fear that you may not get a better choice later. For example, if you know a guy who drinks too much, has a difficult personality and hates kids, he’s no good to you unless you’re writing a country song. He may be fun for the night, but there’s no chance for a future, because he has deal-breaking characteristics or values. And you need to be paying attention to those and hitting the door even if it means going home alone.

How To Fall In Love With Yourself — So That Someone Else Will Too

If you haven’t stopped to give your needs and wants some serious thought, you probably wouldn’t know Mr. Right if he walked up to you wearing a name tag. You don’t fit with everybody, and not everybody fits with you. There are people out there who will drive you crazy and vice versa. I want to make sure that you have a clear vision of what you want and what you don’t want — what you absolutely cannot live with versus, “Yes, this is the foundation on which I can build a future.”

Here’s a hint: What you want is not necessarily Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Gandhi and Bill Gates rolled into one. After all, as he gets older, he’s likely to have Bill Gates’s looks and Gandhi’s money. You’re not going for some dream guy here, because going for a dream guy is a good way to excuse yourself from the game — just set the bar so high that nobody measures up, then shrug your shoulders and say, “That’s why I’m alone.” No, we are going to get in there, and be realistic and find somebody who has a chance of being the right kind of guy. Then we’ll create the right kind of experience.

Ask Yourself This To Start Living The Life You Imagined

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself: “How much of my life is what I had in mind?” In the “Tip of the Day” video above, Dr. Phil suggests you call “time-out” to assess if your priorities are truly reflected in your lifestyle. For example, if you value peace and health, are you living that way, or is your life filled with chaos instead? Are you starting to work for the things you don’t want instead of the things that you do? Make priority lists, and if you catch yourself spending time on something that’s not on the list, ask yourself: “Why is this absorbing time, and effort and energy in my life?” Dr. Phil suggests: “Pick one thing each week that you want to change to make your life better. Focus on that for those seven days and see if it doesn’t make a difference.”

News in Brief: Wedding Album Off To Bizarre Start With Photo Of 2 Acorns Floating In Glass Of Water

LONGMONT, CO—Staring with confusion at the close-up, black-and-white image, sources looking through Brad and Dana Rogers’ wedding photos Thursday confirmed the album was off to a bizarre start with a stylized shot of two acorns floating in a glass of water. “Boy, what were they going for here? I guess the acorns could represent the two of them, but why would they just be sitting there in a water glass on a table like that?” said friend Mark Alpern, pointing out that the album contained a second, equally puzzling photo of the same scene, this one in color and from a different angle, with one of the wedding bands visible in the soft-focus background. “Maybe it’s because they like nature? I guess that would make sense if the wedding had been in the fall or outdoors, but it was last week in a hotel ballroom in Wichita. Huh …

Start Your Solstice Right with Sqirl’s Veggie-Heavy Frittata

Vogue-Sqirl_Solstice-holding

Jessica Koslow is the owner and chef of Sqirl.

To the ancients, the word solstice meant, literally, the day on which the sun stood still in the sky, peaking for a moment before beginning its season-shifting march toward winter. Here, we capture the brilliance of the sun in all of its summertime glory and present it, golden hue and all, in a smoking-hot skillet. A plus: This egg dish is vegetally versatile. Feeling green? Substitute a kale or pea puree in lieu of carrots.

Solstice Frittata

INGREDIENTS
Part 1
1 cup sliced carrots (evenly sliced, 1/4-inch on a mandoline)
2 T olive oil
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
Pinches of salt
1 tsp. of water (if needed)

Part 2
3 organic large eggs
1/4 cup carrot puree (from Part 1)
Pinch of salt
Fleur de sel, for finishing
Lemon wedges, for finishing

Part 1
Clean carrots. You can peel them, or just wash them well (I don’t peel).

Slice carrot “coins” evenly. I use a mandoline on a wider setting (about a 1/4 inch), but you can also use a knife to cut even pieces. Even is key.

On medium heat, in a small pot, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. When the oil is hot, add carrots and stir. The goal: caramelize—not burn—the carrots.

Add a pinch of salt, turn heat down to medium-low, and cover with a parchment paper cartouche. The cartouche is essentially a round cover made from parchment that will fit inside the diameter of the pot and on top of the carrots. It will allow the moisture from the carrots to assist in cooking them instead of drying the carrots through evaporation.

Once carrots are soft, transfer to a food processor. While the carrots are being pureed, slowly add a pinch of salt, a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin, and another tablespoon of oil. If the carrots are having difficulty turning into a soft puree, add a teaspoon of water. Set aside.

Part 2
Turn oven to 375 degrees.

In a mixing bowl, crack three eggs. Add a small pinch of salt and whisk with a fork until whites and yellows are fully combined and the color has shifted to a pale yellow (whisking takes time, work your biceps). Add 1/4 cup of the puree to the eggs and do one final whisk.

Place a 5-inch cast iron skillet on the stove on medium-high heat. Add a tab of butter to it. Move the butter around the pan, and once melted, add the egg/carrot mixture. Stir for five seconds with a rubber spatula, then turn off the heat and move the skillet to the oven.

Seven minutes later, open the oven and check in on the frittata. It should look puffed, like a soufflé, and solid (not jiggly and wet). If it needs a minute or two more, leave it in the oven.

Finish with fleur de sel and a squeeze of fresh lemon, and serve with a vibrant side salad.

This Romantic Disney World Proposal Is A Great Start To Happily Ever After

Disney World is a hot spot for marriage proposals, and Patrick Santos and Gavin Hatch can count their engagement among the park’s most romantic.

Hatch thought he was going out for drinks with a friend at Disney’s Boardwalk in Florida, but upon his arrival, he was handed a card.

“Gavin, this very moment is the start of our new adventure together,” it read. “You always talked about being in love like in the movies, however, all of the best love stories have one thing in common. You have to go against all odds to get there.”

Hatch continued to follow clues until he was met with a spectacular dance performance to Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally” and, eventually, a proposal.

“I don’t think Gavin had a clue what was going to happen to him that night,” Santos told The Huffington Post. “I had to make up a few stories in order for all of this to be possible.”

Hatch said he was completely blown away by the proposal.

“When I was handed my first card, I knew Patrick was up to something … as we continued to walk the boardwalk and I saw more and more of my friends, I started to think that it might be a proposal, but it just didn’t hit me until I was handed the last card by my best friend,” he told HuffPost. “I will admit though, I always knew that if Patrick was the one to pop the question, it would be a big and unforgettable event, and it sure was.”

Well if that isn’t the most romantic thing ever, we don’t know what is.

9 Signs Your Marriage Was Doomed From The Start

Sometimes, cold feet are a sign of something far more serious than a case of pre-wedding jitters.

What doubts are particularly foreboding prior to marriage? Below, experts weigh in with nine signs that your relationship may have been doomed from the start.

1. You were just too different.
He’s a Republican, she’s left of Al Franken. Her weekends and evenings are filled with CrossFit and adult kickball, his life is centered around League of Legend tournaments. Everyone likes to idealize the opposites-attract relationship, but when push comes to shove, those differences oftentimes get the best of a couple, especially when there are also communication problems, said divorce attorney Morghan Richardson.

“In real life, the dynamic that made the dating relationship exciting can eventually erode the marriage if the couple doesn’t learn how to grow their communication skills,” she said. “As you may have learned firsthand, some clashes — especially those related to religious beliefs — are nearly impossible to find middle ground on.”

2. Your partner monopolized all of your time.
It’s completely understandable that you wanted to spend every waking moment with your S.O. when you first got together. But if your partner got jealous when you spent time with friends and family, that’s when you should have taken a big step back, said Jim Walkup, a licensed marriage and family therapist.

“You may now remember your partner’s jealous and suspicious interrogations about anything you did without him or her, and if you sought to reassure your partner, you were met with distrust,” Walkup said. “Today you probably recognize that as a need to control. Unfortunately, that’s a deep-seated character flaw that all too often goes unaddressed in relationships.”

3. Waitstaff were treated like second-class citizens.
What’s the best way to get a quick read of a partner’s character early on? Watch how he or she treats waitstaff at a restaurant. If a date is rude, it’s in your best interest to say “check, please” and run, advises Karyl McBride, a licensed marriage and family therapist and author.

“If your ex treated others badly in public — like being unkind to waitstaff — or generally seemed to think they were deserving of having their needs met immediately, it should have set off alarms,” McBride said. “Typically how a person treats others is how they will end up treating you and your children in the long run.”

4. You never discussed your future.
It’s not necessarily exciting to map out plans for your financial future as a couple. But a baseline understanding of your partner’s hopes for the years to come could have helped you stave off divorce, said Florida divorce attorney Krista Barth.

“From the beginning, you should have known if your spouse was drowning in consumer debt or was more about keeping up the appearance of having money than actually earning,” Barth said. “That’s vital information.”

5. The sex was mediocre at best.
The sex isn’t going to be mind-blowing at every stage of your relationship. Still, if it wasn’t anything to write home about to begin with, you may have made a major mistake in getting married, said Abby Rodman, a psychotherapist and author of Should You Marry Him?: A No-Nonsense, Therapist-Tested Guide to Not Screwing Up the Biggest Decision of Your Life.

“Making a lifelong commitment to someone you have a blah sex life with is rarely good idea,” she said. “Perhaps you thought your partner’s good qualities would make up for a less-than-great sex life.”

Eventually, she said, you and your libido probably realized that compromise wasn’t for the best.

6. There was verbal abuse.
It’s not easy to identify a verbally abusive partner in the beginning stages of a relationship — he or she is too busy trying to charm and win you over, said dating expert and author Marina Sbrochi. That said, there are warning signs to be more cognizant of in the future.

“Your partner might have insulted you and quickly claimed they were joking when you protested,” Sbrochi said. “But slowly, the need for control ramped up and so did the insults.”

No relationship is perfect and sometimes people say things they don’t mean, Sbrochi admitted. “But normal people apologize and don’t do it again. Little by little, verbal abusers will bring you under control until you have lost yours.”

7. Friends and family weren’t supportive of the relationship.
Your S.O was never going to be universally loved by everyone in your life. Still, it should have given you pause if there was a general consensus among friends and family that your partner wasn’t right for you, Walkup said.

“Those close to you may have said that you were becoming a person they no longer recognized and personally, you may have started to dread their feedback,” the marriage therapist explained. “Whenever your partner starts to take you away from the values others know are important to you, you should be concerned.”

8. You didn’t make career decisions together.
Even the best laid career plans can be interrupted by the ups-and-downs of the job market. If you never had a discussion about your career ambitions — or how you’d react if things didn’t go as planned — you were already at a severe disadvantage, said Richardson.

“We’ve had several cases where a husband or wife seemed ambitious: studying for an advanced degree or making efforts to get U.S. credentials for foreign studies,” the divorce attorney explained. “When those efforts failed, they gave up, which left the other spouse feeling betrayed. Planning for the best and the worst needs to happen.”

9. You felt compelled to change for your partner.
You want to be the best version of yourself when you’re in a relationship. If your partner subtly or not-so-subtly suggested you needed to change, it should have been a red flag, Rodman said.

“That change may have been a small one that’s always rankled you or a life-changing one that left you wondering how you’d be able to commit to it,” the psychotherapist said. “It goes without saying that any relationship based on you not being your authentic self will find itself in rocky straits before long.”

Stop Reacting, Start Creating: The TNG2 Manifesto

2015-02-25-photo.JPG

Zack Rosen is the former Editor-in-Chief of defunct queer culture site TheNewGay.net.

If catching up after a sick day is merely stressful, the cleanup for a few sick years feels positively herculean. I find myself in 2015 grossly familiar with where I’ve been. So like Charlie Brown and his football, I’m putting my trust back into the internet and hoping for connection. I’m asking for help in figuring out where I’m going.

I put so much of myself online, for so long, that I woke up one day in 2011 with nothing left. I spent the year following as a couch cushion, a soft fixture of my own red velvet sectional and the leather davenports of too many trained professionals.

There were the guinea pig months, where every fortnight heralded a new chemical cure with side effects worse than the initial illness. Two years of glacial gains and mudslide setbacks, cut with an endless bog of unactable ideas.

Incapacitation, for me, felt like being slowly drowned in my own ambitions. First I lost my will to put my thoughts on paper, which left my flowers of inspiration to bloom and rot under the cartoon lightbulb in my head. The world divided into things I wanted to do and things I could do, with little overlap. The cavern between desire and ability grew so large that a trip to the bank required as much planning as an alpine hike, and left me just as drained.

So I stopped worrying that I wasn’t a part of the world, and turned my focus to how I had gotten to this point and what I would do when past it. The answers were linked. I had burned myself out as a blogger, and blogging is a reactive medium. Events happened, I reported them. Artists created, I critiqued them. Gay culture was an assault, and I was leading the defense.

I was fighting Them, for Us.

They strike, I perry. They advance, I beat. Sleeping with one eye open, exhausted and wary to stay current, I finally asked myself, “How long do you keep making the second move before you ask what you’re running from?”

I was so busy reacting to the world around me that I ceased to be a part of it, and it was here that my infirmitude gave me a boon. The nature of my illness at that time, combined with its first wildly exacerbating attempt at treatment, set me out in a car for three weeks to get out of a few bad situations in a few different homes and re-experience the world of the living.

I drove from Chicago to a frigid Madison in mid-February 2012 and spent the next two weeks chasing the spring down to Georgia. When I wasn’t making bad decisions in gay bars and thrift stores, I thought.

I thought while chain-smoking at 4:00 a.m. in a dark highway between Louisville and Nashville. I thought in hotel rooms and thought so hard and slept so long I thought myself out of the daylight. I holed up at the Athens Days Inn for 36 hours with the shades down, with a box of crayons and a blank sketchbook, and thought until I remembered what it meant to share a piece of myself without fearing my audience.

I’ve spent three years trying to grasp what I learned over the course of those three weeks, and the only way I can share it now is by telling you a story. It’s a story I told myself during a period of time when I deemed it OK to treat myself like a child, albeit a child who’d read The Republic.

***

It seemed to me that there were actually two worlds, the land of creation and the land of reaction, and I was trapped in the latter. The land of reaction is beautiful, but none of the beauty is local. It ends at a cliff and a chasm, and across that chasm is the land of creation, where real things happen and real people live.

The artists and poets over there, painters and storytellers, musicians and dreamers, revolutionaries and leaders, would pluck out a piece of their soul and fling it across the chasm for their subjects on the other side. And when it landed, this song or movie, this idea or inspiration, those in the land of reaction would jump on it and each try to claim a little piece for themselves.

Unable to cross the chasm of pain and hard work, they stay where they are and tear up what lands at their feet, twisting and turning the organs of another’s genius until they could present it, gored beyond recognition, as their own.

Such atrocities I’d committed there! An American president once said that the credit belongs to the man in the arena, and I’d found the illusion of apex at the tailgate. I still put thoughts online after this, interviewed musicians and made cat videos, but I couldn’t find joy in them. I couldn’t shake the idea that every second in the land of reaction sunk my feet another inch in the mud, and soon I’d lose the ability to cross forever.

***

Stability is a poor synonym for recovery, but I’m better these days. Fifteen months ago, the last hard hit I took woke me up and I decided to make a small, old dream a reality. I’m tackling a line by line rewrite of T.S. Eliot’s “The Wasteland” as “White Gayland” a critique of the contemporary dominant gay culture. It’s hardly a whole-cloth miracle to draw over someone else’s blueprint, but I wanted the challenge of condensing 10 years of experience into a handful of stanzas. I wanted to write something I was proud of, something that wouldn’t spoil after a week on the windowsill.

I finished part one of five, and couldn’t find anywhere to publish. I’m highly unfamiliar with the literary and poetic world, and know from experience how most creative writing is received on most popular blogs. So I repeated an old mistake; I’m starting my own blog.

A continuation of my last blog, TheNewGay.net, I’ve started up TNG2.com as a home for aspiring creators with no place to go. My attempts to cross the gap from reactivity to creativity will begin with the next four parts of “White Gayland” interspersed with “A Different Dolphin,” a serialized gay children’s book written by New York City artist Aaron Clippinger and illustrated by myself.

This is the scariest thing I’ve done, including posing for Fleshbot and interviewing Stephin Merritt. Art lives longer than people, than articles, than tweets or likes or shouting matches, longer than any news segment or opinion piece, than protests, than riots, than wars, than fantasy or reality, than our children or our pets.

I’d like to have a home base for the creators outside of Buzzfeed, of social media, of “Internet famous,” of “How many followers?” or “Where’ve you been linked?” A place for original work and unpopular perspectives, for video and visual art and whatever comes after, a place for those who don’t fit in, who don’t have a base, who have whole worlds inside of them and no venue for release.

I don’t know exactly what I’m asking for, because I haven’t seen yet. Only you, the creator, know what’s in store. I just ask if this resonates with you — If you’ve also longed to take the long hike down the slope of reaction and up the hill of true magic, but feared rejection by those already there — let’s journey together.

If this resonates with you, shoot a note to Zack@tng2.com. There’s no deadline pressure, no weekly posts, no shitting out an anecdote to meet someone else’s deadline. Just present me with your own best self and let’s hope that, together, we can build our own endpoint.
