Voodoo Lounge Uncut presents for the first time the full, unedited show filmed on November 25th 1994 at Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium. Originally directed by the legendary David Mallet, this new version features 10 performances omitted from its previous release in the 90s, and the full show is now presented in its original running order. With its ahead-of-its-time cyberworld staging, guest appearances from Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray and Bo Diddley, and a setlist combining classic tracks with (then) new material from the Voodoo Lounge album, this phenomenal show can now be enjoyed as originally intended. As an added bonus, all visual formats feature five tracks from an earlier date on the Voodoo Lounge Tour that weren’t performed in Miami – making this the definitive record of The Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge Tour.

It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part. It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. “From The Vault” is a new series of live concerts from The Rolling Stones archive which are getting their first official release. “L. A. Forum – Live In 1975” is the second title in this series. The Rolling Stones’ “Tour Of The Americas ‘75” was the band’s first tour with new guitarist Ronnie Wood. Even before the dates started there were dramatic scenes in New York City at the official tour announcement when the band unexpectedly turned up on a flatbed truck to play “Brown Sugar”. After a couple of low key warm-up shows in Louisiana the tour took in 44 dates between the 3rd June and the 8th August 1975. They settled into the L. A. Forum for a five night stint from July 9th to 13th and this concert film features the show from July 12th. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.

This latest addition to the acclaimed From The Vaults series was filmed at the San Jose Arena on The Rolling Stones’ No Security tour, which ran from January to June 1999 through North America and Europe. It followed on from the colossal Bridges To Babylon tour and took its name from the “No Security” live album recorded on that 1997/98 tour. In reaction to the huge stadiums played on Bridges To Babylon the conscious decision was made to book the band into smaller venues for the initial North American leg of the No Security tour. This show was filmed in April 1999 in front of an audience of a little over 30,000 (intimate by Rolling Stones standards!) at the end of the North American dates. Previously unreleased, it captures the band in top form playing a set that spans from mid-sixties hit singles up to the then current Bridges To Babylon album.

“From The Vault” is a new series of live concerts from The Rolling Stones archive which are getting their first official release. “Hampton Coliseum – Live In 1981” is the first title in this series. The Rolling Stones American Tour in 1981 was the most successful tour of that year taking a then record $ 50 million dollars in ticket sales. The tour was in support of the critically and commercially successful “Tattoo You” album. There were fifty dates on the tour which ran from Philadelphia at the end of September through to Hampton, Virginia on the 18th and 19th of December. The show on December 18th, which was also Keith Richards’ birthday, was the first ever music concert to be broadcast on television as a pay-per-view event. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.

The Rolling Stones 1978 tour of the USA in support of that year’s “Some Girls” album is considered by fans to be one of their very best. The tour followed immediately on the release of the “Some Girls” album and by the time the band arrived in Texas in mid-July the album had hit the No.1 spot on the US charts. The tour took a “back to basics” approach, with the band and their music very much at the forefront and little or no elaborate staging. Filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 18th, 1978, this concert is typical of the tour with the Rolling Stones delivering a raw, energetic performance in front of a crowd who are clearly loving the show. Many of the tracks from “Some Girls” are included in the live set with a sprinkling of Stones classics from earlier albums. Originally shot on 16mm film, the footage has been carefully restored and the sound remixed and remastered by Bob Clearmountain from the original multitrack tapes. This is undeniably the Rolling Stones at the peak of their form.

2014 Carol Award Winner for Speculative The Fate of the Kingdom Awaits the Cast of Stones In the backwater village of Callowford, roustabout Errol Stone is enlisted by a church messenger arriving with urgent missives for the hermit priest in the hills. Eager for coin, Errol agrees to what he thinks will be an easy task, but soon finds himself hunted by deadly assassins. Forced to flee with the priest and a small band of travelers, Errol soon learns he's joined a quest that could change the fate of his kingdom. Protected for millennia by the heirs of the first king, the kingdom's dynasty nears its end and the selection of the new king begins–but in secret and shadow. As danger mounts, Errol must leave behind the stains and griefs of the past, learn to fight, and discover who is hunting him and his companions and how far they will go to stop the reading of the stones. "With an engaging, imaginative world that bristles with danger, characters that keep you guessing, and a story that sticks with you, A Cast of Stones will keep you devouring pages until the very end. I highly recommend it!" –John W. Otte, author of Failstate "Carr's debut, the first in a series, is assured and up-tempo, with much to enjoy in characterization and description–not least the homely, life-as-lived details." – Publishers Weekly This fast-paced fantasy debut set in a medieval world is a winner. Both main and secondary characters are fully drawn and endearing, and Errol's transformation from drunkard to hero is well plotted. Carr is a promising CF author to watch. Fans of epic Christian fantasies will enjoy discovering a new voice.  "Like the preceding series title, Inescapable, this tale of suspense offers a colorful cast of characters, small-town drama, and a hint of romance. A sure bet for fans of Hannah Alexander." — Library Journal "[Good fantasy books] have to be excellent. Good storytelling and exceptional characters with circumstances that are easy enough to follow and wrap your brain around but keep you entertained and guessing… Cast of Stones has found itself firmly in that list of books. I absolutely, one hundred percent loved this book." –Radiant Lit

Hollywood Reporter – Music Reviews

Stones’ (Dis)Satisfaction Defined the Summer of ’65

In 1964, the Beatles initiated a pop music renaissance and music became important to young baby boomers in a way it had never been for previous generations. Children, some not yet in double digits, were immersed in Top 40 radio, often listening under the covers long after our parents thought we were asleep.

With earnest curiosity, we engaged with lyrics that were becoming increasingly complex, even for our older brothers and sisters. By ’65, we heard the simplicity of “Gee, I really love you,” give way to “the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.” And fresh new sounds and rhythms from British and American groups made it hard to keep still. Not yet burdened with the self-consciousness of puberty, we danced.

It was the height of the British Invasion, and we couldn’t get enough of the new bands from across the pond. The Beatles were, of course, a thing apart, but the Dave Clark 5, Herman’s Hermits, Peter and Gordon, Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Animals also called out to us. The Rolling Stones had a few minor hits and a TV appearance in ’64, but we weren’t paying much attention to Mick and the boys. Then, in June ’65, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” happened.

Only three months after the Beatles shocked parents with “She said that living with me was bringing her down,” the Rolling Stones snarled “I can’t get no satisfaction,” and alluded to sex during menstruation. As I discuss in Beatleness, the Fab Four’s arrival in ’64 heralded a new frontier of youth empowerment, self-expression and freedom. The following year, with “Satisfaction,” the Stones — labeled a “leering quintet” by Newsweek — pushed that frontier forward.

The song comes at you with an assaultive riff and doesn’t let up for three minutes and 44 seconds. Using his new Gibson Maestro fuzzbox, Keith Richards attempted to simulate horns, which is how he wanted the song recorded. He thought the fuzz guitar, intended only as a placeholder, was too gimmicky. Outvoted by the rest of the band, the distorted guitar prevailed. The riff has become something almost beyond music, like a naturally occurring sound one just hears out in the world. It’s hard to imagine the last 50 years without it.

Unrelenting percussion, layers of driving guitar, subtle piano and elegant tambourine support and sometimes teasingly obscure incessantly complaining lyrics. This mélange, delivered with Jagger’s then-newfound swagger, was an audacious “fuck you” to the World War II generation. The double negative in the title and chorus, a form of speech used by the powerless and marginal, adds urgency, angerand a touch of menace.

Stones manager Andrew Oldham consciously marketed the band as the antithesis of the Beatles. But marketing strategy or not, young music fans could hear, see, and perhaps more importantly, feel the inherent differences between the two bands. The Beatles were a boomer obsession at this point, so when the Stones suddenly grabbed our attention further along that frontier, you had to have an opinion. “Satisfaction” began the “Stones v. Beatles” (or “Beatles v. Stones”) conversation that has occupied fans and critics alike for 50 years.

Unlike the protagonist in Chuck Berry’s “Too Much Monkey Business” who doesn’t bother complaining because he knows his objection will be overruled, or the guy in Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues,” who was powerless because he was too young to vote, the Stones complained loudly and persistently — and empowered young listeners to do the same. The rousing critique of vapid media, consumer culture, conformity and sexual rebuff was number one for four weeks — quite an earful for a mass audience of very tuned-in children.

When the Stones performed the song on ABC’s “Shindig” in May ’65 and then on “The Ed Sullivan Show” the following February, young viewers saw a band more androgynous than the Beatles, and overtly sexual. They were intriguing, even off-putting at times, but we didn’t look away. We didn’t even look away when pouting Mick tried to stare us down in tight close-ups. Jagger’s persona, with its fluid sexuality, enigmatic energy and oppositional stance, became a significant presence in boomers’ lives.

The Stones’ misogyny became as integral to the package as Jagger’s androgyny, an odd contradiction that, in retrospect, could have been challenging for fans of all ages and added to the sense that the Stones were “darker” than the Beatles. Yet, both boys and girls wanted the look and many tried out Jagger’s moves. Father and son battles over hair and tight pants heated up, as the Stones’ effeminate, punk style spread through junior highs and high schools across America. In fact, “Satisfaction” could arguably be called the first punk rock song.

The similarly-themed “Get Off of My Cloud” followed a few months later. By the time the Who’s “My Generation” hit the states, the media was obsessed with the so-called generation gap. The sixties were in full swing. Young people were seeking satisfaction.

One of the main Beatles takeaways was “all you need is love.” We now know this isn’t quite true. Love is essential, but, pragmatically speaking, it’s not all we need. The Stones classic speaks a greater truth. The media still offer uninspiring, useless information. Advertisers continue to exploit our insecurities to drive consumption (which is, by the way, destroying the planet), and boomers, with our high divorce rates, are still often frustrated as they try to navigate gender relations. Listening to “Satisfaction” today, I hear a tirade against a culture that thwarts the basic human need to feel fully alive and engaged — intellectually, emotionally and physically. “Satisfaction” sounds as fresh today as it did 50 years ago, and fires our imaginations.

Ed Helms Destroys Rolling Stone’s Rape Story Scandal During UVA Valedictory Speech

“Never let others define you, define yourselves.”

So began a seemingly comedic speech at the University of Virginia’s Valedictory Exercises by actor Ed Helms on Friday. In front of a large audience, the comedian peppered in jokes about Netflix and student loans before turning a harsh eye on the Rolling Stone rape story scandal, which has drawn widespread condemnation and lawsuits against the magazine.

“It has been said that a rolling stone gathers no moss,” Helms said. “I would add that sometimes a rolling stone also gathers no verifiable facts or even the tiniest morsels of journalistic integrity.”

“Rolling Stone tried to define you this year,” Helms said. “As a result, not only was this community thrown deep into turmoil, but the incredibly important struggle to address sexual violence on campuses nationwide was suddenly more confusing than ever and needlessly set back.”

The speech comes a month after Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism called Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s story “A Rape on Campus” a “journalistic failure” — a move that prompted Rolling Stone to retract the entire piece.

“The failure encompassed reporting, editing, editorial supervision and fact-checking,” the authors of the review said.

During his speech, Helms also delved into the strikingly negative news coverage of the Baltimore riots, chastising many major networks for their portrayal of the protestors as “thugs,” noting “Rolling Stone’s rush to define is just the tip of the iceberg.”

“The reductive labels aren’t helping and we better stop applying them, because there are a lot of Americans in a lot of pain,” Helms said. “We try to define others with simple labels because it makes the world easier to understand.”

“This community didn’t fall for the fallacy that just because Rolling Stone was wrong everything here must be perfectly peachy,” he continued. “You all had the courage to understand you can be outraged at Rolling Stone and still ask yourselves hard questions: When sexual violence does occur in our community, do we have the best possible protocols and resources available to our students? And UVA is charging forward to answer those questions and you should be proud of that.”

The Freshest Takes on Eveningwear? A Daringly Chic Pantsuit Like Lorde’s, an Embellished Jumpsuit Like Emma Stone’s

Pantsuits

The boldest statements at last night’s Golden Globe Awards were sported by some of Hollywood’s newest talents, though the biggest surprise wasn’t who they were wearing but rather what they were wearing. Lorde, dressed in a custom Narciso Rodriguez pantsuit, led the pack with her daring, pared-back look. High-waisted trousers offset the sheer and unabashed sex appeal of her bra top, while a slightly slouchy jacket evoked a bit of borrowed-from-the-boys cool. Meanwhile, Emma Stone demonstrated an elegant take on that other alternative for evening: the jumpsuit. Her Lanvin version featured a bejeweled bodice and cascading trousers—with oversize bow accent!—for a sophisticated, youthful effect. For those wanting to wear the disco-era favorite, opt for printed bustiers paired with neutral pants. Another way to rework the look? Playing with proportion and silhouette to lend a sense of grandeur sans haughtiness. Whether suited up with or without jacket, try these fresh takes on retro looks and be prepared to sweep the sartorial race amongst your circle.

Watch Rolling Stones Play First Concert Since L'Wren Scott's Death

The following article is provided by Rolling Stone.

By KORY GROW

The Rolling Stones have resumed touring following a break to mourn the death of Mick Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, L’Wren Scott. The group played its first concert Monday night since March at Norway’s Telenor Arena, near Oslo. Jagger did not mention Scott during the show.

According to the BBC, the group spent a week in Oslo rehearsing for the show at film studio complex Filmparken, performing a dress rehearsal Saturday night at Telenor Arena attended by the E Street Band’s Steve Van Zandt.

Fans were given the chance to vote for a song before the show, and while Jagger told the crowd the favorite was Norwegian band A-ha’s “Take on Me,” it was too high-pitched for him to sing. The group ended up playing “Let’s Spend the Night Together” for the first time since 2007.

Scott, who had been dating Jagger since 2001, was found dead of an apparent suicide in her New York City apartment in mid March. Jagger was heartbroken by the news, saying, “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” in a statement. The band postponed seven dates of its tour of Australia and New Zealand, which it had been on at the time of Scott’s death, so Jagger could fly to New York and grieve. As scheduled, the group will play those makeup dates in October and November.
