Concerned about the ethical and environmental impact of using farmed fur in fashion collections, and responding to the consumer’s desire for ethical fashion, DVF has partnered with the Humane Society of the United States and PETA to end the exploitation of animal fur in fashion
“It’s time for us to make this change and accept responsibility to ensure that we don’t promote killing animals for the sake of fashion,” said Sandra Campos, chief executive officer of DVF. “We are committed to supporting the shift to a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry by providing the consumer with innovative and sophisticated alternatives. Beginning with 2019, DVF will not incorporate the use of exotic skins, mohair, angora or fur.”
Von Furstenberg added, “I am so excited that technology has provided us a way to feel as glamorous with faux fur.”
Less than 15 percent of DVF’s fall collections since fall 2015 have included fur, angora and skin. DVF will continue to use ethically sourced shearling given the byproduct nature of this material.

What Are You Doing?: Fortnite Streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Ble Caught Using The N-Word, Says He’s Sorry & Was Tongue-Tied

Grand Opening Of Esports Arena Las Vegas, The First Dedicated Esports Arena On The Las Vegas Strip At Luxor Hotel and Casino

Source: Ethan Miller / Getty

Ninja was really feeling himself a tad bit too much. Yesterday while streaming a session of Fortnite with a buddy, popular Twitcher Tyler “Ninja” Blevins made the bonehead error of saying the dreaded N’word and was immediately put on blast for it.

DOH!

There was a prophetic Tweet posted on the 24th wondering how long it would take for the streamer to slip up while he’s on Twitch.

The duo was in the mood for some tunes while they gamed and settled on Logic’s “44 More” as the soundtrack to their session. Known as one of the “good ones” in the streaming community he started singing along with the song and in his “excitement” blurted out the n-word in front of his viewers. Here is the catch Logic never actually says the word in the song so Ninja added that part in. Here are the actual lyrics of the song via Genius:

“Ayy, bitch, I’ve been goin’ and goin’ like the Energizer

Yeah, I’m supplyin’ the wood like Elijah

In the cut, smokin’ on indica

Might fuck around and compartmentalize ya

They say, they say life is a bitch

And if that is the case then I’m finna surprise her”

The internet caught wind of Ninja’s screw up after a clip of Blevin’s saying the word surfaced online and it quickly picked up steam.

Immediately a debate was started on the matter but who wants to be that person to die on that hill defending Ninja’s error? Apparently, there are quite a few nincompoops who felt the need to try and somehow

Yeah but umm he should know better regardless and just because it’s in a song doesn’t give him the okay to say it. It would seem Ninja knows he messed up badly and has since apologized and claimed he tongue-tied for the error in series of tweets.

The apology seems sincere, but that didn’t stop folks from coming at him for thinking he had a pass.

Ninja is not the first gamer/streamer to be called out for racist or anti-semitic popular YouTube and Twitch streamers JonTron and Pewdiepie were caught out here saying crazy shit. Whether it was the version with the hard ER at the end or with an A, Ninja has no business saying the word. Hopefully, he learned his lesson, just because Drake likes and joined your stream doesn’t mean you can talk slick on your streams. But he’s still gonna catch this slander and jokes though hit the flip for more reactions to Ninja saying the n-word,

How to Criticize a Political Opponent Using List Persuasion

I’m seeing a lot of “list” journalism now that is designed to paint President Trump in a negative light. The power of the list is that the more items on the list, the more persuasive it looks, even if the items are weak. Here’s a good example.

If you want to create a persuasive political attack list, be sure to include the following elements in various combinations.

  • Situations that could turn out bad but probably won’t
  • Imperfect situations that aren’t terribly important
  • A rumor that would be bad if  it were true, but probably isn’t true
  • Words such as “stunning” and “death match” to convey badness without reasons
  • A misinterpretation of what your target said or meant
  • Intentional omission of relevant context including any positives
  • Expert opinions that the candidate who won the presidency with no political experience and had one of the best first years of any president (for conservatives) doesn’t know how to do things
  • Opinions based on mind-reading, such as “He only cares about one thing!”

The power of the list is that while each item is unimportant, false, overblown, or an obvious misinterpretation of intent, the sheer quantity of items makes it persuasive nonetheless. A list of five criticisms is better than three, and ten is better than five. It doesn’t much matter how solid any of the items are when viewed in isolation. Readers will remember the size of the list more than the items on it.

You see this method used with the Russian collusion narrative. Any one item on the list would mean little or nothing. It only looks persuasive because of quantity plus confirmation bias. Critics will chirp “With so much smoke, there must be fire!” But of course the critics and political enemies created the smoke, not the targeted politician.

I am often criticized for praising effective persuasion and leaving out the ethical dimension. I’ll do it again right here because I trust you to apply your own moral filter. I’m only here to tell you what works and what doesn’t. And this attack-list method totally works. President Trump isn’t the only persuader in the game. His opponents, collectively but not individually, have a great game too. Is their persuasion ethical and moral? I trust you to make that judgement without my assist.

I know most of you bristle at the thought that “the ends justify the means.” So don’t think of it that way. Think of it as benefits exceeding costs. And by that I mean I would lie to a terrorist to save your child’s life. I hope you would do the same for me.

We live in an imperfect world. It doesn’t help to pretend otherwise.

I started a Patreon account so my audience can influence my content — via micro-donations as low as one dollar.

Writing about persuasion and politics reduced my income by about 30-40% because of tribal effects. I took that risk with full understanding of the outcome because I thought it was worth educating the public on what they were witnessing.

Patreon funding will persuade me to express my opinions as often as practical without worrying about the sensibilities of sponsors, advertisers, or corporate bosses. I appreciate all of you who are making this happen.

Canned Coon: Omarosa Was Fired For Using The White House Car Service

US-VOTE-REPUBLICANS-TRUMP

Source: TIMOTHY A. CLARY / Getty

Omarosa‘s mouth has exposed why she really got fired from the White House. It turns out Trump’s once favorite shoe shuffling coon got booted for the improper use of the WH’s car service.

Seriously. This is why she got the heave-ho.

Reports Page Six:

Manigault, the Trump administration’s former director of communications for its Office of Public Liaison — and a current contestant on TV’s “Celebrity Big Brother’’ — was using the work pick-up and drop-off service, known as “CARPET,” for her personal use, which is “strictly forbidden,’’ officials told Politico.

Fed-up White House chief of staff John Kelly finally gave her the ax in December. She then tried to sneak into the White House to make a personal appeal to President Trump, but was busted when she tripped security.

Not so coincidentally, this news comes shortly after Omarosa flapped her gums about Trump and Mike Pence on Celebrity Big Brother.

Five years after he started his collection, the designer has spent two years building up his 9J online business and boutique in the Bronx. When they came to the store, they wanted pieces from me.”
LaMaar is all about figuring out what makes his customers come to the Bronx to shop. Beyoncé and Tina Knowles helped to raise his profile two years ago by wearing his designs and posting their support. I Explain the Persuasion Techniques President Trump is using on The Wall and DACA

You might enjoy my Periscope playback from this morning in which I describe the several persuasion techniques President Trump is using on the topic of The Wall and DACA.

Here’s the quick summary.

Visual Persuasion: President Trump describes border security (a concept) with the word “wall” because you can visualize it. Our visual sense is our most persuasive path for influence. It would be weak persuasion to talk about border security as a concept without a visual.

Simplicity: Border security is a big topic, and the method you use to secure it will depend on the terrain and other factors. If President Trump mentioned all of that complexity each time he talked about border security it would be a big yawn. Simple messages such as “build a wall” always beat complicated (but accurate) conceptual arguments.

Strategic Ambiguity: In hypnosis class we learned to omit any details the subject might find objectionable. Following good form, President Trump doesn’t get too specific about the type of wall he wants. He lets us see the wall that makes the most sense to us.

We see the same strategic ambiguity after his famous dinner “agreement” with Pelosi and Schumer. The Democratic leaders got to announce “no wall” while the President says “yes wall.” The reality is that both sides agree on spending for border improvements, some of which will undoubtedly be wall-ish sometime in the next few years. We citizens get to pick which version of reality we like best: wall or no wall. The ambiguity supports both views. And it is intentional.

Big First Demand: A good negotiator starts with an aggressive first demand so there is plenty of room to negotiate toward the middle. President Trump started his campaign promising to deport every undocumented immigrant. That first demand was so extreme that he has plenty of room to negotiate toward a reasonable center, such as allowing DACA folks to stay.

Likewise, the “Wall” idea is seen by many Trump critics and supporters alike to mean a solid wall for the entire border with Mexico. This was never a practical idea, and candidate Trump said so directly at least once, but he wisely didn’t emphasize the full range of solutions for the border. Now it will seem totally reasonable to build a solid wall wherever border security is most problematic, so long as it is not extended to the entire border.

Thinking Past the Sale: In this case, the “sale” is President Trump’s desire to tighten border security. Now both sides assume the border will be tightened and they are only debating the budget and the details. This is classic persuasion. The President never allowed the country to spend time debating whether or not we wanted better border control. Instead, he made us focus on how to do it. He made the sale before the country thought it had anything to buy.

Trading Imaginary Assets for Real Ones: If we believe initial reports from Pelosi, Schumer, and Trump, there will be some sort of deal for greater border security in exchange for allowing DACA folks to stay in the country. But realistically, the DACA folks couldn’t have been rounded up and deported without a civil war. So President Trump traded an imaginary asset (the idea of deporting the DACA folks) for something potentially real in terms of greater border security funding.

Pacing and Leading: Pacing refers to matching your subject in some way, either physically, verbally, or in terms of philosophy. Candidate Trump paced (matched) his base on immigration until he got elected. Now the base trusts that he is philosophically aligned with them. So if he finds he can’t do all the things they demand, they are likely to let him lead to whatever is practical and doable simply because they trust him on the topic. People don’t expect a politician to be magic, or to do the impossible. But they do want politicians to “get” them and to care about them and to fight for what they want. President Trump paced his supporters by understanding their needs and fighting for them. That group is likely to trust him when he says some form of “This is the best we can do for now.”

High Ground Maneuver: The high ground maneuver involves taking an argument out of the weeds and up to a level where everyone agrees. In this case, the weeds include a discussion of how best to handle DACA folks. President Trump tweeted that some are military veterans. The military is the high ground in the U.S., and any reference to them is likely to be a high ground play. In other words, President Trump is committing to keeping the DACA folks in this country. He just doesn’t want to say it until he gets his budget for border security.

Likewise, at some point soon President Trump will pivot from “the wall everywhere” to “effective border control.” Effective border control, and the job improvement for Americans that might come with it, are the high ground. The details of how to do it are the weeds.

My new book, Win Bigly, is available for preorder. This blog post is a taste of the sort of things I teach you in the book, with a backdrop of my weird-and-wonderful story about predicting Trump’s election win.

I met this trashy individual when I was helping shoot some scenes in Vegas and I could never stop staring at his monstrous cock. Coincidentally he only lives a state over and was looking for some work so I was happy to help out. Normally I dont go for gay-for-pay guys because theyre usually terrible at gay sex, but after watching him fuck so many other dudes I had to know what it was like to have that large penis in all of my orifices. It was the best feeling to know it was excruciating for him and pure ecstasy for me.

This Artist Is Using ‘Artivism’ To Break Down Queer Stigma And Stereotypes

A Venezuelan artist is making a bold statement about queerness and art’s power to aid in the breaking down of stereotypes related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) identity.

The “I’m Not A Joke” campaign from Daniel Arzola is a series of images inscribed with compelling truths about human diversity that encourages individuals to live as their authentic selves. He wants the images to eventually appear on buses and subways, exposing audiences to the realites of queer experiences in an attempt to breakdown prejudice in a form of activism that he calls “Artivism.”

Much of Arzola’s work comes from personal experience as an LGBT person growing up in Venezuela. “I had an violent adolescence because of [Venezuela’s intolerance],” he told The Huffington Post. “When I was 15-years-old they tied me to an electric pole and tried to burn me alive. I was able to escape that but I spent six years not being able to draw because they destroyed all of my drawings. After escaping that I transformed everything into lines and colors instead of returning the violence – I wanted to break the cycle.”

The Huffington Post chatted this week with Arzola about “Artivism,” his artwork and what he hopes to see accomplished through the “I’m Not A Joke” series.

Ducklings Rescued Using Hooters Fry Basket, Because Of Course

You know what they say about Hooters — great wings.

The breastaurant chain doesn’t serve duck wings, but it services ducklings in distress! A Hooters in Lakeland, Florida was instrumental in rescuing six ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Sunday, Lakeland Fire Department officials told The Huffington Post.

A Hooters manager called Polk County Animal Control and the fire department to report that the little duckies couldn’t get out of a storm drain outside the restaurant. But rescuers had a problem too: The half-dozen, adorable victims were deep below a grate, and kept falling through their would-be saviors’ dog-catching net. The quick-thinking Hooters manager grabbed a fine-mesh basket used for frying and gave it to firefighters, who connected to a pole to catch all six Mallard ducklings.

All of the cuties are safe — and none of them were fried.

The Lakeland Fire Department posted images of the duckling rescue to its Facebook page.

“There is no sign of spring more fruitful and heartwarming than fresh flowers or plucky little yellow ducklings,” the department wrote. “All six ducklings were unharmed and reunited with their mother in a nearby pond shortly after the rescue was complete.”

Life Imitating Art: Why Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift are Using Masterpieces to Inspire Their Instagrams

Photo: Courtesy of Beyoncé

Over the past few months, a particularly eye-catching trend has taken over our Instagram feeds. It’s not quite the #ArtSelfie (a search for that hashtag throws up nearly 20,000 close-up selfies in galleries), but rather a more literal form of life imitating art which involves matching the look of a masterpiece to an outfit down to the finest details.

Beyoncé was one of the first to pick up on the phenomenon, and mirrored the lines of a Picasso sketch with matching waves and a colorful Chris Ofili watercolor with coordinating Ankara prints. Her sister Solange Knowles wasn’t far behind, posting a picture of herself beneath Magritte’s The False Mirror at the MoMA in a cloud-printed sweatshirt with a faraway look in her eyes. Katy Perry has been known to use sculpture to inspire her selfies, and even Taylor Swift and Cara Delevingne have gotten in on the act with George Washington at the White House—dressed in head-to-toe black of course. And with the new Whitney opening its doors in Chelsea today, there’s even more room for off-the-wall fun and games. Here, twelve of our favorite museum-worthy examples.

How One Mom Is Using Military Uniforms To Solve A Problem For Kids With Autism

When Crystal Lyons’ toddler son John was diagnosed with autism in July 2014, the South Carolina mom looked into buying him a weighted vest — a therapy tool that can have a calming effect on children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and other special needs.

Lyons was disappointed to find that the weighted vests she came across were out of her price range, and insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, she told The Huffington Post. With the help of her drill sergeant husband, the mom came up with a solution. “I told my husband, ‘You know what? I bet I could use all those uniforms you have, and a sewing machine just costs 100 dollars,'” she said in an interview with USA Today.

vests

After teaching herself to sew, Lyons created a weighted vest for John. “[It] helps him cope through situations where he is feeling overly anxious or unsure,” she told The Huffington Post. “The vest helps him calm down so he can focus on his therapy or what he is learning in school.”

Though research about the effectiveness of weighted vests varies, many occupational therapists and parents find them to be helpful for kids with special needs. Roseann Schaaf, a professor and chair of the department of occupational therapy at Thomas Jefferson University told Today, “The jury is still out. Most of the studies are small samples and need to be replicated.” She added, “Just because it works for this child doesn’t mean it’s going to work for your child … every kid with autism is very different.”

Seeing the positive impact the weighted vest had on her son, Lyons was inspired to make more vests for more children. Thus “Vests for Visionaries” was born.

vests

To create the vests, Lyons disassembles donated military uniforms. Then, she reassembles them as weighted vests incorporating the child’s interests and favorite colors into the design by adding patches and new fabrics in the lining. The mom does not weight the vests because every child requires a different amount of weight. “I recommend parents or therapists do the actual weighting of the vest,” she said, noting that she uses rolls of pennies to weigh down her son’s vest.

So far, Lyons has been able to donate vests to over 130 kids in the U.S. and Australia. “Sometimes the vests are referred to as ‘portable hugs’ due to the deep pressure having the same effect as a longer lasting hug and giving the same type of comfort,” she told The Huffington Post. “I think in general the vests provided by Vests for Visionaries also give a more ‘cool’ option for school aged children who may already feel self-conscious about their anxiety, autism, or sensory issues.”

vests for visionaries

For the first 18 months of John’s life, he developed normally. “He would interact with you, look you in the eye, sleep through the night,” she recalled. “He was speaking in small sentences, imitating, pointing, bringing toys and objects to us.” But then he started speaking less and less, and when his father went away for drill sergeant training, the 22-month-old stopped talking altogether. At the age of 2, John was officially diagnosed with autism, which his mom says was “devastating.”

“There were a lot of questions and worries like, ‘Will he ever talk again?’ ‘What are we going to do if we have to move and we have to start therapies over again?’ ‘How are we as a family going to work together to help him through this?'” But, after taking two weeks to let the diagnosis sink in, Lyons pushed ahead and hasn’t stopped working to help John and other kids with special needs.

When she started Vests for Visionaries, the mom’s goal was to “help children and families be able to have access to a therapy tool they may not be able to afford and to give hope to those families in a situation where they may already be feeling helpless,” she said. “I just want people to know not to give up after diagnosis and to know there is help and there are people willing to help if you just let them know.”

Using A Straight Guy

No one loves banging out a hot straight guy more than me. This dude may look familiar to you some of you, he goes by Roman Rivers. I met him while helping out with a shoot for On The Hunt a few years back and we’ve been buddies since. I find it so hot when shooting with some straight guys who do porn because they try their best to act like they’re into man sex even though they are hating it more and more with every thrust of cock…There’s just something really gratifying knowing that I’m the only one getting pleasure out of the situation. My favorite part of filming with this straight dude was when he asked if he could "have some fun too" and takes a turn fucking me (which I considered but declined and then told him he was gay for asking). At least he got a few free beers out of the deal!

Florida Police Caught Using African-American Mugshots As Target Practice

A North Miami Beach police department is under fire, after being caught using criminal mugshots for target practice at a gun range often used for officer training. In an unbelievable coincidence,  during a December visit to the range Sgt. Valerie Deant discovered that not only were the mugshots of minority offenders being used, one of the photos posted was that of her own brother, who had been arrested over 15 years ago in connection with a drag race.

Said Deant, “I was like why is my brother being used for target practice? There were like gunshots there and I cried a couple of times.”

According to the Medley Firearms Training Center, the venue is often leased to local law enforcement agencies, who are allowed to choose their own target photos.

Though many are outraged at the racial implications of the act, North Miami Beach Police Chief J. Scott Dennis has denied that race played a part stating “Our policies were not violated. There is no discipline forthcoming from the individuals who were involved with this.”

Why College Classes Are Using ‘The Simpsons’

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Bart and Lisa Simpson have been in elementary school for 25 years. But that hasn’t stopped them from showing up on college campuses.

Universities across the country are using satirical references from “The Simpsons” to grab students’ attention and convey lessons in literature and all manner of popular culture.

“If the references are important enough to be lampooned by ‘The Simpsons,’ these works must be important cultural milestones,” says Hofstra University adjunct English professor Richard Pioreck, who has been incorporating the denizens of Springfield into his courses for about a decade.

He currently teaches a course about the Broadway theater and how “The Simpsons” have embraced various musicals and plays. Next semester, he shifts to an online literature course titled “The D’oh of Homer” that includes readings from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” — all referenced in “Simpsons” episodes.

“Teachers need to keep things fresh,” says Denise Du Verenay, an adjunct English professor at St. Xavier University in Chicago, co-author of the book “The Simpsons in the Classroom: Embiggening the Learning Experience with the Wisdom of Springfield.”

“They need to reach students however they can. And using ‘The Simpsons’ to grab their attention, I think, is brilliant,” she says. “Fighting against pop culture isn’t going to do anyone any good.”

In recent years, other universities have had courses focused on the primetime show — which celebrates its 25th anniversary on Wednesday — including Oswego State University in New York and San Jose State University in California.

Longtime “Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean says he’s not surprised professors have embraced the program. “Some people may think we are very vulgar, but then they find there is a lot of warmth and emotion and many people are surprised at the intelligence of some of the jokes,” he says.

Pioreck says he decided to use the show after a friend of his daughter’s passed an exam on “The Devil and Daniel Webster” by watching a “Simpsons” episode that focused on the story.

He found that the sitcom usually aims for more than just the easy punchlines, with writers layering the plotlines with humor that can be appreciated by lowbrow, middlebrow and highbrow audiences alike.

For example, in one episode that parodied “A Streetcar Named Desire” (“A Streetcar Named Marge”), the dynamics of Homer and Marge Simpson’s marriage are deftly illustrated through a comparison to the relationship of the couple in the play, Stella and Stanley.

“‘The Simpsons’ do a great deal of parodying, whether it’s a complete script or a number here or there,” Pioreck says. “Quite often they choose family relationships; what makes a man a success is one of the things that we pursue. And you can see what happens to Homer. Even though it looks like he’s not a good father, he steps up and he comes through in the end.”

Jean acknowledges a theme in many episodes is the comparison of the C. Montgomery Burns character — the miserly owner of Springfield’s nuclear power plant — to the lead character in the movie “Citizen Kane,” Charles Foster Kane.

“Mr. Burns … he doesn’t have fulfillment in his life even though he’s the richest person in town,” Pioreck says. “Here are two people who have it all, they have more money than they know what to do with and yet they’re not happy. Homer has no money, but has friends and family.”

Almost incredibly, at least one young Hofstra student confesses she’d never seen the sitcom before signing up for the Simpsons-Broadway course.

Elizabeth Sarian, a 21-year-old music performance major from Plainview says she signed up because of her interest in Broadway, not the cartoon.

Still, she says, the connection to “The Simpsons” is hardly trivial “because it really does teach you a lot from watching it.”
