Sporting a fuzzy afro and looking at least a tad bit hungover, Uncle John is catch all the slander on the Internets. Word is it was the Washington Wizard who shared the photo before deleting it.

But it was too late, and it now lives on in Twitter infamy.

How big can the national debt get before it matters? Does anyone know?

Why would anyone fund the entire $ 25 billion wall when it makes more sense to do a $ 1 billion segment and judge its effectiveness and cost before making a decision on the rest?

CFDA, The Wall Group Partner on Celebrity Stylist Panels

Just in time for awards season, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is joining forces with international artist management company The Wall Group to host two panel discussions and networking events aimed at acquainting CFDA members with the celebrity stylist.
The first event, scheduled for Nov. 8 in New York at the Roxy Hotel, will feature a discussion between Kate Young, Micaela Erlanger and Cristina Ehrlich, moderated by Edward Barsamian. On Nov. 13 in Los Angeles at the W Hollywood, a twin event will be held for CFDA West Coast members featuring Karla Welch, Elizabeth Stewart and Ilaria Urbinati, moderated by Melissa Magsaysay.
Topics of conversation include but are not limited to the role and rising profile of the celebrity stylist; developing a client’s image; spotlighting accessories and jewelry; the collaborative process with designers, and ways in which digital/social media changed the discovery process.
The partnership came out of the growing interest among the CFDA’s 500-plus membership to connect and collaborate with celebrity stylists in meaningful ways. The stylist has become an influencer and image-maker who plays a pivotal role in the industry’s success, as evidenced by the way a red carpet placement can put a designer on the map.

The Wall Group to Open Paris Office

Talent agency The Wall Group is set to open a Paris office next week in the midst of the city’s fashion week. The agency, which represents hairstylists, makeup artist and fashion stylists, has a roster that includes Danilo, Renato Campora, Ben Skervin, Hung Vanngo, Frank B, Alice Lane, Kate Young, Karla Welch and Elizabeth Stewart.
“Our decision to expand into Paris is a logical next step for our business,” said founder Brooke Wall. “We’ve worked with European talent, brands and fashion houses for years from afar, but demand continues to increase as the focus on international red carpets, film festivals and fashion presentations intensifies. We see a lot of opportunity to grow our services in-market and are excited about this evolution.”
Wall founded TWG in 2000 in New York and began with a roster of behind-the-scenes talent focused on the traditional fashion and editorial industry. TWG opened its Los Angeles office in 2003 to addresses the small but burgeoning group of artists focused on celebrity and red carpet styling. Today, those artists are among those signing lucrative consulting and designing gigs, such as Welch’s recent tie-up with Hanes, for which Justin Bieber was the poster boy.

Trevor Noah Reveals What Donald Trump’s Border Wall Will Probably Look Like

“It’s open concept.”
Comedy
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS-Visit Mobile Playboy today for the hottest adult entertainment online!

I Explain the Persuasion Techniques President Trump is using on The Wall and DACA

You might enjoy my Periscope playback from this morning in which I describe the several persuasion techniques President Trump is using on the topic of The Wall and DACA.

Here’s the quick summary.

Visual Persuasion: President Trump describes border security (a concept) with the word “wall” because you can visualize it. Our visual sense is our most persuasive path for influence. It would be weak persuasion to talk about border security as a concept without a visual.

Simplicity: Border security is a big topic, and the method you use to secure it will depend on the terrain and other factors. If President Trump mentioned all of that complexity each time he talked about border security it would be a big yawn. Simple messages such as “build a wall” always beat complicated (but accurate) conceptual arguments.

Strategic Ambiguity: In hypnosis class we learned to omit any details the subject might find objectionable. Following good form, President Trump doesn’t get too specific about the type of wall he wants. He lets us see the wall that makes the most sense to us.

We see the same strategic ambiguity after his famous dinner “agreement” with Pelosi and Schumer. The Democratic leaders got to announce “no wall” while the President says “yes wall.” The reality is that both sides agree on spending for border improvements, some of which will undoubtedly be wall-ish sometime in the next few years. We citizens get to pick which version of reality we like best: wall or no wall. The ambiguity supports both views. And it is intentional.

Big First Demand: A good negotiator starts with an aggressive first demand so there is plenty of room to negotiate toward the middle. President Trump started his campaign promising to deport every undocumented immigrant. That first demand was so extreme that he has plenty of room to negotiate toward a reasonable center, such as allowing DACA folks to stay.

Likewise, the “Wall” idea is seen by many Trump critics and supporters alike to mean a solid wall for the entire border with Mexico. This was never a practical idea, and candidate Trump said so directly at least once, but he wisely didn’t emphasize the full range of solutions for the border. Now it will seem totally reasonable to build a solid wall wherever border security is most problematic, so long as it is not extended to the entire border.

Thinking Past the Sale: In this case, the “sale” is President Trump’s desire to tighten border security. Now both sides assume the border will be tightened and they are only debating the budget and the details. This is classic persuasion. The President never allowed the country to spend time debating whether or not we wanted better border control. Instead, he made us focus on how to do it. He made the sale before the country thought it had anything to buy.

Trading Imaginary Assets for Real Ones: If we believe initial reports from Pelosi, Schumer, and Trump, there will be some sort of deal for greater border security in exchange for allowing DACA folks to stay in the country. But realistically, the DACA folks couldn’t have been rounded up and deported without a civil war. So President Trump traded an imaginary asset (the idea of deporting the DACA folks) for something potentially real in terms of greater border security funding.

Pacing and Leading: Pacing refers to matching your subject in some way, either physically, verbally, or in terms of philosophy. Candidate Trump paced (matched) his base on immigration until he got elected. Now the base trusts that he is philosophically aligned with them. So if he finds he can’t do all the things they demand, they are likely to let him lead to whatever is practical and doable simply because they trust him on the topic. People don’t expect a politician to be magic, or to do the impossible. But they do want politicians to “get” them and to care about them and to fight for what they want. President Trump paced his supporters by understanding their needs and fighting for them. That group is likely to trust him when he says some form of “This is the best we can do for now.”

High Ground Maneuver: The high ground maneuver involves taking an argument out of the weeds and up to a level where everyone agrees. In this case, the weeds include a discussion of how best to handle DACA folks. President Trump tweeted that some are military veterans. The military is the high ground in the U.S., and any reference to them is likely to be a high ground play. In other words, President Trump is committing to keeping the DACA folks in this country. He just doesn’t want to say it until he gets his budget for border security.

Likewise, at some point soon President Trump will pivot from “the wall everywhere” to “effective border control.” Effective border control, and the job improvement for Americans that might come with it, are the high ground. The details of how to do it are the weeds.

My new book, Win Bigly, is available for preorder. This blog post is a taste of the sort of things I teach you in the book, with a backdrop of my weird-and-wonderful story about predicting Trump’s election win.

Another Way to Make Mexico Pay for the Wall?

I saw a news item about border security seizing $ 500K worth of marijuana at the border. The agent being interviewed said this was not unusual.

What do they do with all of that seized marijuana? I assume they destroy it after taking home whatever they can fit in their pockets. (I kid the border patrol.)

But let’s think creatively for a minute. California’s cannabis dispensaries would happily purchase that weed and sell it to consumers. Why not sell it to state-legal dispensaries and use the proceeds to help pay for the wall?

This plan would require changes in federal law. But that’s doable. Or at least it would be, if we had a functioning Congress.

I don’t expect this to happen because Congress is not effective. They’ll let that low-hanging fruit rot.

Add that to your reasons for despising them. They earned it.

You might enjoy reading my book because of events.

Solar Panels on the Wall?

Axios is reporting that President Trump suggested putting solar panels on the new Wall with Mexico. The article wonders where the idea came from:

Where this idea might come from: A proposal to cover the wall with solar panels was among those submitted when the U.S. requested designs earlier this year, according to the AP. Companies winning contracts and asked to build prototypes may be announced this month.

That’s one place it might have come from. But I consider it an obvious idea, which means the President might have come up with it himself. And when I say “obvious,” I mean it is obvious to people who understand the power of persuasion.

Case in point, consider this quote from my blog post in November of 2015, about a year before the first Wall bids were submitted.

Now let’s keep thinking big about what this “wall” actually is. I can imagine a bullet train operating inside the wall, with shops and entertainment on each side, at least within the gateway city. I can imagine solar panels all along the top. I can imagine condos built into the wall. You can add more ideas. The point is that “wall” is thinking small. Think gateway city.

You can see the rest of that blog post here.

Many readers of this blog have wondered about the spooky accuracy of my Trump-related predictions for the past 2 years. Some have wondered on social media if I was somehow causing things to happen or just doing a good (or lucky) job of predicting. I’d like to propose a third option: People who understand persuasion think alike.

Putting solar panels on the wall is persuasion. It isn’t construction. It isn’t politics. It isn’t border security. It isn’t climate protection. It is pure persuasion. If that isn’t already obvious to you, consider how hard it would be for critics to argue against a green energy project, even if that is just an add-on feature to the wall. It changes the frame.

My hypothesis is that people who understand persuasion are likely to come to similar conclusions about things, and those conclusions will not agree with 98% of the public. Want more evidence of that? Take a look at linguist and persuasion expert George Lakoff’s take on President Trump’s Twitter strategy. You’ll see it is similar to what I’ve been telling you for a few years now. That’s not a coincidence. Lakoff is looking at the situation through what I call the Persuasion Filter, same as me.

We all have our own filters, informed by our training and life experiences. People who only know politics see only politics. People who are trained only in economics will tell you to follow the money. And trained persuaders will tell you persuasion is usually the predictive variable.

When you see experienced “persuaders” agree on a topic, it doesn’t mean one of them got the idea from another. It probably means there was one obvious persuasion-related play and those with training recognized it at the same time.

You might enjoy reading my book because it is almost summer.

News in Brief: Ted Cruz Worried All The Good Countries To Wall Off Taken By Other Candidates

TIPTON, IA—Following Gov. Scott Walker’s recent endorsement of building a fence along the Canadian border, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) reportedly worried Monday that all the good foreign countries to wall off from the U.S. had already been taken by other GOP candidates. “Sheesh, the rest of the guys snatched up the best countries right away and now all that’s left to barricade ourselves off from are a few crummy islands,” said Cruz, who appeared visibly distressed upon realizing that, in order to gain attention on the issue of immigration, he was now stuck with backing a plan to build a U.S. border wall in the middle of the Caribbean Sea to keep out undocumented Bahamian citizens. “Boy, I should have jumped on a better option when I still had the chance—it’s down to slim pickings now. We Should Build A Wall That Keeps Burning Man Attendees From Coming Home

What separates the burning men from the burning boys, is really nothing, because they’re all awful. This is why we should seriously consider Cultivated Wit’s new proposal to raise $ 7.3 billion to build a wall that’d prevent Burning Man attendees from returning home.

Perhaps it would be too intense to burn not just the Burning Man man, but also burn all the burning men, so a wall seems like a justified response to the annual wildfire that will continue to rage in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert near the California border starting August 30.

Make Smokey Bear proud and prevent this fire from ever happening again. The proposed wall may only appear to save San Francisco. The wall may also put the rest of the country at risk as burning families are forced to move into new neighborhoods outside of the Bay Area. But California is in drought, and we must band together as a nation to help our fellow Americans overcome this crisis. Sometimes you’ve got to fight fire with over seven billion dollars of concrete.

Klaus Fiebig said he spoke to his old friend several months before her death, and the pediatrician seemed centered around his hate for ex-wife Uta von Schwedler. “At the end he said something peculiar: ‘Would it be bad if Uta wasn’t here anymore?’ ” Fiebig said. “She didn’t plan to move away.”

Von Schwedler, a 49-year-old cancer researcher, was found dead in a bathtub full of cold water in September 2011. A medical examiner found that she drowned, but she also had a fatal dose of anti-anxiety medication in her system. He stopped short of ruling her death a homicide or a suicide.

After her death, Fiebig spoke with Wall again following a memorial service. Wall had shaved his head in mourning, but he was still fixated on how much he hated her, Fiebig said.

The day she was found, Wall came into work with a bloodied eyeball and scratches on his face, his former office manager testified Wednesday.

Wall said he’d slept outside on his porch, and his dog got spooked and stepped on him, Kathi Newman said. “I remember looking and thinking that just seemed strange to me,” she said.

Von Schwedler’s death was initially treated as a suicide, but her family and friends pushed for more investigation. Wall was arrested more than a year after her death.

Prosecutors allege the 51-year-old Wall killed his ex-wife during a bitter custody battle. Defense attorneys counter that she could have killed herself. His trial began last week and is expected to last a month.

Fiebig said Wednesday that he introduced the couple, who wed in Malibu in 1990 and moved to Salt Lake City a few years later. The relationship went downhill after the move, with fights that grew increasingly ugly on both sides.

“They didn’t stop where it hurt,” he said. Von Schwedler eventually started another relationship before their divorce, he said.

After the 2006 split, Wall became increasingly difficult at work, his former medical assistant testified Wednesday. “He just slowly became disconnected,” Christina Gardner-Smith said.

Wall was very well liked when she first started working for him, she said. She went through a divorce around the same time, and the two used to joke about hiring a hit man to take care of their respective ex-spouses.

But later, he started lashing out at her if something went wrong. Gardner-Smith stopped working for him about three years later.

“I just couldn’t do it anymore,” she said.

To Be a Fly on the Wall

On Friday, January 9, the United States Supreme Court will discuss whether to review of one or more of the five marriage equality cases now before it. We’d love to be a fly on the wall at the Court’s private conference, but we, like millions of other LGBT Americans and their friends and families, will have to wait for the Court’s public announcement, which could come later that day, the following Monday, or even later in January.

Nearly all legal observers thought the Supreme Court would take a marriage equality case last October, but the Court instead declined to review decisions in favor of the freedom to marry from the 4th, 7th, and 10th Federal Circuits. Marriages began immediately in Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Utah. Other states in these federal circuits, such as Colorado, North Carolina, and West Virginia soon thereafter followed suit. At the same time, the 9th Circuit Federal Court ruled in our favor, and states such as Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona gained equality. Today, 36 states and the District of Columbia have marriage equality.

But a very conservative federal trial judge in Louisiana and the 6th Circuit federal appeals court (covering Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee) failed to follow the otherwise unanimous consensus of lower federal courts, which had sided with equality since the Supreme Court struck down DOMA in 2013. The 6th Circuit and the Louisiana federal judge upheld the statewide marriage bans before them.

Speculation is high that the Supreme Court will grant review of the 6th Circuit (or Louisiana) decision. Last summer, Justice Ginsberg, stated that “some urgency” would exist for the Court to take the case if the 6th Circuit ruled against equality. Conflicting decisions from federal circuit courts present a classic reason for the Supreme Court to review a case. Justices Thomas and Scalia indicated late last fall that they had wanted the Court to take one of the cases in October. But the Supreme Court could also decline review of the 6th Circuit and Louisiana cases and continue to allow the various federal appellate courts to reach their own decisions regarding state marriage bans.

We urge the Supreme Court to grant review of one or more of the cases before it and establish marriage equality nationwide and heightened constitutional protection for LGBT people more broadly. If it doesn’t, LGBT people will continue to be excluded from marriage in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee for the indefinite future. Married LGBT couples will remain vulnerable if they move or travel to a state without equality. LGBT couples who married in states with equality but live in states without it will be deprived of important federal rights and protections. And LGBT Americans will continue to live with uncertainty as to whether the Supreme Court and other federal courts will protect us from governmental discrimination in all aspects of our lives.

As we await the Supreme Court’s decision, action will continue apace in the federal circuits. Marriages began in Florida earlier this week, and briefing is nearly complete in the 11th Circuit. The 5th Circuit (covering Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas) will hold oral argument in marriage equality cases on January 9, the same day the Supreme Court will conduct its conference. Decisions will follow in the coming months. The First Circuit is also reviewing an unfavorable ruling from Puerto Rico, and the Eighth Circuit (covering states such as Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and the Dakotas) will be hearing and deciding case(s) as well.

The case for equality is strong if the Court takes a case this January. The Court’s 2013 Windsor decision articulated forcefully the harm that inequality causes LGBT couples and their families. If the Court takes a case this term, oral argument will take place in the spring with a decision very likely in late June — just in time for Pride. We hope for an equality filled 2015.

John Lewis and Stuart Gaffney, together for nearly three decades, were plaintiffs in the California case for equal marriage rights decided by the California Supreme Court in 2008. They are leaders in the nationwide grassroots organization Marriage Equality USA.

Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Up On Chris Martin Split, Says She ‘Hit A Wall’

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin “consciously uncoupled” last March and the “Glee” actress has finally revealed what led to the decision.

In the the February 2015 issue of Marie Claire, which Paltrow covers, the 42-year-old actress revealed that at one point in her 11-year relationship with Martin she “sort of hit a wall.” Paltrow told the magazine, “I had built my life on trying to be all things to all people, and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I really had the sense that I wasn’t allowed to have needs, and I had to prove my specialness or self-worth by doing all this stuff and taking care of everybody else.”

The actress, who stars in “Mortdecai,” said that the split wasn’t dramatic though and that she and Martin are very close now. “We’ve worked really fucking hard to get to [this] point,” she told Marie Claire. “I feel like it’s, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have.”
