Really Want Children

A priest was getting ready for a trip to Rome, and a man came to him with a request: “When you get to Rome, could you light a candle for me and my
wife? We really want children and the doctor just told us we might not be able to have any.”

The priest agreed to the request. Ten years later, he ran into the man again in a super market. With him were about twelve kids.

“Oh, this is wonderful!” said the priest. “But tell me, where’s your wife?”

“Oh, she’s gone to Rome to blow out the candle.”

The GOP is still trying to justify keeping Roy Moore as a Senate candidate instead of giving him the boot for being an alleged pedophile. Many are woke enough to know it’s probably Russian bots helping this suspect at best trending topic.

Also, the fact that the alt-right friendly have no problems with a grown man dating teens isn’t lost on many.

UFC Boss Dana White Doesn’t Want To See Conor McGregor Box Again

Dana White, president of the combat sports league UFC, says that while MMA fighter Conor McGregor impressed him in his boxing outing, he doesn’t want to see him in the square circle again. McGregor was stopped by Floyd Mayweather in the 10th round of their hyped match, which some are praising the Irishman for.

MMA Fighting reports:

“I’m so proud of Conor tonight,” White said at the evening’s postfight press conference. “It’s not the fight I thought it would be, it was a completely different fight than I expected. When you get into professional boxing, you guys know, you start four rounds, you go six rounds. He went 10 rounds tonight with arguably the greatest to ever do it.”

But White made something else equally clear at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena — he doesn’t want to see McGregor step into the squared circle again any time soon.

“I would rather he did not,” White said. “This isn’t what he does. He’s a mixed martial artist where he goes in and he fights and he uses all of his weapons, and tonight he was only allowed use his hands. I think he did great tonight, I don’t think there’s anything else left to prove. I would rather he fight in mixed martial arts.”

Our thoughts exactly, Dana White. No offense to Conor McGregor.

People Want Answers From Diddy Over “Tupac” Allegations

I haven’t seen it, but a new documentary called “Murder Rap” has opened up some deep wounds. In the movie, they allege that Diddy had Tupac killed and Suge had Biggie murdered in retaliation. Now, we know Diddy has long maintained his innocence and the authorities have never come close to arresting the Bad Boy mogul. It seems like a lot of people saw this movie and immediately took it to Diddy on social media. Most people weren’t necessarily looking at him as guilty, but they certainly wanted him to address the allegations. I hope they are addressed too! This can’t be life! Below is the trailer I found online for the movie. FYI: Diddy addressed this movie when it was just a book, calling it “fiction.”

Real Men Want Real Love

Men have gotten a bad rap — especially among divorced women who have gotten back into dating again. The word on the street (and on the Internet) is men only want two things: sex, and then more sex.

That might be the common belief, but it’s just not true. Even though we’re a decade and a half into the new 21st century world of romantic relationships, women are still clueless about what men really want. (And men are just as clueless about women. But we’ll cover that topic in another story.)

Here’s how this cluelessness gets started: A newly divorced man goes out with a newly divorced woman. Neither has been out on a date since Bill Clinton uttered the strangest words ever spoken by a U.S. President: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” Ironically, having sexual relations with a woman is prominently on the mind of the divorced man. Meanwhile, being frightened about having sexual relations with a new man is near the top of the divorced woman’s thoughts.

So what happens? The newly divorced man comes across as obsessed with sex, because in the early stages of post-divorce dating he is obsessed with sex. Some men have to get that out of their systems before they can settle down into a committed love relationship. That’s why he goes out on more dates than the typical woman, and yes, that’s why he tries to have sex with some of them. He is desperately searching for companionship. To him, having sex is better than no companionship at all.

If women who are new to the dating scene go out with only men who are recently divorced or have suffered recent breakups, then these women get the impression that men are looking for sex. Period. Too often, these women get frustrated with men, and they stop dating. These frustrated women then perpetuate the myth that all men want is sex.

Another thing that adds to women’s confusion is that men approach dating as a numbers game. A typical man believes that he has to date a lot of women in order to find the perfect one for him. Women are more likely to believe in the Prince Charming story, in which the prince will come along at the perfect time. That’s why women aren’t quite so manic about having to go out on a million dates. And that’s why women think men only want to date and have sex, not commit to a relationship.

Get past a man’s desperate early dating behavior, and you can get to the real truth about men. Real men are looking for love. That’s real love, not just sex. Ask single men what they really want, and they say love, not sex. Men want to love, and they want to be loved and respected in return.

What else do men want? Men are visual creatures, so they want a woman who is attractive to them. Yes, that seems (to most women) like men are shallow. But men are not necessarily looking for a runway model. The typical man wants a woman who takes pride in her appearance. And men are proud of having a girlfriend or wife who wants to look her best.

Most men are looking for women who retain their femininity. Men are seeking women who are feminine, gentle and kind. If you’re a woman, don’t try to be “one of the boys.” Men have guy friends for that. Be a woman. Viva la difference!

Men want a woman who is supportive. Many women are too quick to criticize men. A woman thinks her constructive criticism shows a man how much she cares about him. This is a crucial mistake, though. Men are hypersensitive to criticism, and they interpret it as a lack of respect. What they want is a relationship based upon mutual respect and support, not criticism.

But men are not looking for doormats. Most men like a woman who lovingly keeps them on their toes. A woman who keeps him challenged is invigorating and exciting. If you want to keep a man interested, keep him challenged with your spunkiness and your ability to keep him from falling into a rut.

What else do men want in a relationship? Sex. (Surprise!) But here’s the key bit of information that most women don’t know about men and sex: men have sex to bond, fall in love and stay in love. Women have sex after they have bonded and want to express their love.

So in the deepest sense, a man wants to make love to you so he can fall in love with you. Real love — both physical and emotional — is what a man really wants.

At Undercover, Jun Takahashi Made Us Want to Run Away and Join the Circus

clowns trend

Yesterday at the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione (whose resident clownette, Cha-U-Kao, was a favorite subject of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec),  Undercover’s Jun Takahashi presented a haunting collection of clown-faced models. Some of them wore ruffs—which have gone in and out of fashion since Queen Elizabeth I’s days—as if Takahashi wanted to remind us that fashion is a circus, and that he’s in the big-tent league.

Pierrot, that droopily melancholic clown, has long been a subject that fascinates, at once eerily ghostlike and a blank page on to which project desires. Pablo Picasso and Jean-Antoine Watteau painted him, and tragedienne Sarah Bernhardt was immortalized by the photographer Nadar as Pierrot Assassin. Fashion has likewise long taken an interest, with designers including Jeanne Lanvin and Karl Lagerfeld channeling him. Here, 16 seriously chic Pierrots, including Takahashi’s.

Wake-Up Call For Mom Who Says She Doesn’t Want To Be A Mom Anymore

Heather, a mom of four, lost her mother and oldest daughter within months of each other. She has been so devastated that she admits she has “checked out” from her remaining three daughters and lost her purpose in life.

In the video above, Dr. Phil looks at what she has told herself or others:

“I should just give up.”
“I don’t want to be a mom.”
“I’m failing my family.”
“I’m completely broken.”
“No point in taking care of myself.”

Dr. Phil asks, “If that’s what you’re saying to yourself over, and over and over again, what possible outcome could you have?” Pointing out how powerful her internal dialogue is, Dr. Phil explains, “We don’t react to what happens in life; we react to what we say to ourselves about what happens in life … Grief is not a disease. You are not broken. You don’t have the right to curl up in a ball and sit on the sidelines. You have a responsibility to put one foot in front of the other and behave and think your way through this.”

How can Heather overcome her pain and move forward with purpose — for her own sake and for her daughters? Watch more as Dr. Phil gives her the tools on Wednesday’s episode, “A Mother of Four Who Says: ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Mom Anymore.’”

Drake Talks Meek Mill Beef: “This Is How You Want To Play It?”

Drake sat down for an increasingly rare interview with The Fader for its 100th issue. Of course, he talked his beef with Meek Mill, an he let the chopper spray.

Drizzy brought the situation up without the writer even having to ask, starting with when Funkmaster Flex pump faked everybody.

“I’m just gonna bring it up ‘cause it’s important to me,” Drake told The Fader. “I was at a charity kickball game—which we won, by the way—and my brother called me. He was just like, ‘I don’t know if you’re aware, but, yo, they’re trying to end us out here. They’re just spreading, like, propaganda. Where are you? You need to come here.’ So we all circled up at the studio, and sat there as Flex went on the air, and these guys flip-flopped [about how] they were gonna do this, that, and the third.”

Then, when Drake dropped “Charged Up, ” there no immediate retort.

Says The Fader:

When a reply to “Charged Up” didn’t come, Drake could hardly believe it. “This is a discussion about music, and no one’s putting forth any music?” he says, speaking with a furrowed brow, as if reliving his incredulity. “You guys are gonna leave this for me to do? This is how you want to play it? You guys didn’t think this through at all—nobody? You guys have high-ranking members watching over you. Nobody told you that this was a bad idea, to engage in this and not have something? You’re gonna engage in a conversation about writing music, and delivering music, with me? And not have anything to put forth on the table?”

Taking offense to Meek Mill failing to have worthy retaliation in the chamber, he figured he had to make a song that have vitriol, and could get radio play (see: “Back To Back”).

It was then that he decided to just go ahead and do another song. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna probably just finish this.’ And I know how I have to finish it. This has to literally become the song that people want to hear every single night, and it’s gonna be tough to exist during this summer when everybody wants to hear [this] song that isn’t necessarily in your favor.”

And there you have it.

What It’s Like For One Dad Whose Son Says: ‘I Want To Become A Woman’

Recently, a 22-year-old named Zach made a confession to his father, Gary: “I want to become a woman.”

“I actually lost my mind,” says Gary about his reaction when he heard Zach’s news. “I was completely caught off guard … He’s supposed to be a man!”

Gary, who is biologically Zach’s uncle but has been raising Zach since he was two days old and considers him his son, says he’s been unable to sleep or eat, and even feels sick to his stomach envisioning Zach as a woman. “It makes me feel like I failed in raising a man,” he explains. “I love Zach no matter what, but I don’t know if I can take it. It’s very tough. I feel like Zach has left me.”

In the video above, Dr. Phil asks Gary, “What do you say to yourself about this?”

“I failed,” Gary responds. “I just feel like I lost him, like he’s gone.”

When Dr. Phil asks if Gary has made any effort to educate himself about what it means to be transgender, Gary admits, “I don’t know how to understand it … It’s not OK. I love Zach, I don’t know how to take him as a girl. It just seems like I failed.”

On Thursday’s episode of Dr. Phil, Gary meets Zach as Steph – watch more here.

Does Doe B’s Mother Want To Talk To T.I.?

This situation with T.I. and Doe B is not going away. I promise. There is more to come, but in the meantime, I am getting word that Tip may want to talk to Doe’s mother! Her name is Shirley Thomas and she sent a very respectful “kite” to Tip, a source has revealed to me. Well, check out what she has to say. I wonder if the call request is because of this notion that T.I. owes Doe B. Click here for that story. Remember Tip COMPLETELY denies that he owes Doe anything and says that he made no money off of him either. Peep it.

Joan Smalls Used to Want Aaliyah’s Jeans, Now She’s Designing Her Own

joan smalls denim

Joan Smalls is no stranger to customizing and creating her own jeans. “Back when I was thirteen, I was so skinny I couldn’t fit into most pairs,” says Smalls. “I had to learn to sew on my mother’s sewing machine to sew up the inseam so they would fit tighter on me!” Luckily for her, the model’s come a long way from making DIY improvements to her denim—she’s now debuting her second collection for True Religion, which includes a cool crop of skinny jeans with zipper detailing and plenty of dark-wash flares.

But Smalls’ denim choices weren’t always so chic. Back in her teens, the supermodel dabbled in the low-slung and crop top look, which is now making a comeback. “I didn’t follow the trends that were in Puerto Rico at the time,” says Smalls. “I would watch music video stations like MTV, and I would get inspired by Aaliyah and wear the slouchy baggy pants! Also, I’d be wearing these denim overalls that were baggy everywhere.”

Now, Smalls has switched up the loose-fit ’90s pairs for her True Religion pieces, including skinny black denim jeans with leather stripes on the sides (“they look like a tuxedo pant”) to jeans with zipper detailing on the pockets (“they are very fitting, super sexy, and edgy at the same time”). As for how Smalls chooses to wear them? It’s easier than you think. “I wear them with a cool pair of sneakers and an easy T-shirt. Then I just throw on a red lip,” says Smalls. “If you are super casual and your makeup looks really good, it dresses up the outfit.” And during the hustle and bustle of Fashion Week, when opportunities for outfit changes are few and far between? Those are words to live by.

Michael Rowe on Early Winter: “I want to be honest in what I film”

2015-09-05-1441436560-1993541-20772Early_Winter_2.jpg

This year’s Venice Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia) shines the spotlight on romance. But it’s not about your typical, run of the mill love stories, more like passion with a twist. Whether it is a group’s love of mountain climbing, as in Everest, or the devotion child soldiers bestow on their commandant in Beasts of No Nation, or even a futuristic view of attraction as a virus in Equals, love always seems to come at a price here on the Lido.

No film explores that more deeply, and darkly, than Michael Rowe’s Early Winter, screening in the Venice Days program. Rowe’s lead characters are two functioning people, complete with their own flaws and very human set of mistakes, yet when David (Paul Doucet) and Maya (Suzanne Clément) come together, they bring out the worst in each other, and themselves. Or perhaps that’s just how all couples are, once the fairy tale of romance wears off and day to day life sets in…

Discovering the filmmaker behind the work is what I love most about what I do. In person, Rowe is a kind, honest and thoughtful man. In fact, I expected someone different, darker perhaps, more angry. But that’s the thing about human beings, we’re not just one thing, one personality throughout; we are a blend of many moods, many thoughts and conflicting ideas. It is what makes life, and cinema, so interesting.

I’ll preface this by saying that I watched it when I was five but your film reminds me of Scenes from a Marriage, by Ingmar Bergman… That film has always stayed with me, my parents made me watch it.

Michael Rowe: I hadn’t thought of Bergman, I love Bergman. That’s a wonderful film, terrifying.

Your film is terrifying too. Two people who need each other but are so damaging to one another. Who have been your filmmaking influences?

Rowe: Influences in general are Bergman, of course, and Cassavetes, Roy Andersson, Catherine Breillat, there are others but those are my main ones. And in literature Raymond Carver is a big influence.

What is your background?

Rowe: I’m from a small town two hours from Melbourne, in Southern Australia. In filmmaking terms I consider myself Mexican, I don’t consider myself Australian. I’ve lived in Mexico for twenty-two years. Filmmakers like Carlos Reygadas, Amat Escalante, who is a good friend, Fernando Eimbcke, I think we influence each other in our work. And Michel Franco.

How did you direct in French?

Rowe: I do have some notions, I can understand the language, I studied four years of French, years ago. I wrote the dialogue in English and then sat down with the actors and with their help, translated it into French.

Why did you make your female character, Maya so unlikable, she’s quite a horrible person. Why not make him that way?

2015-09-05-1441436620-8773000-20760Michael_Rowe__Early_Winter.jpg Rowe: Because that’s the way she was. I don’t think about politics when I’m writing, it comes from somewhere else. And I think that if you have two people in a film, it’s about those two people it’s not about all women all men. I think we undergo a tyranny in the world of culture, this pseudo sociological analysis and criticism that we’re subjected to. Everything has to be able to be analyzed and be politically correct from a Marxists, feminist, socialist POV. No, I mean, people are bad — men and women — and people are good — men and women — and most of us are good and bad, in different contexts.

It is also about the situation. She’s trapped in a way…

Rowe: Yeah, she has a horrible life, she’s with this guy who is not the love of her life, and she’s got these kids and she lives a long way from home. She does her best, and she doesn’t have a particularly easy personality — it’s real life.

Was she difficult to write?

Rowe: All writing is difficult for me. It’s the part I hate. Because you are on your own, you’re completely in the dark, you’re six months away from knowing if it works or not. You can’t ask advice of anyone because no one knows. It’s a difficult and lonely process. I don’t like it but it’s the only process that’s important. The most creative process by a hundred percent, compared to directing which is also nice, it’s much nicer you have people around you. It’s much more social, I love it. Writing I suffer through it a lot but want to tell my version of truth. I want to be honest in what I film and I can’t be honest if I’m filming something that I didn’t write. It’s very important to me to really be the creator. I think the heavy creative work is in the writing.

How did you find your two lead actors?

Rowe: I cast Paul [Doucet] and he brought tears to my eyes in the casting, in a scene with no dialogue. He’s awesome. I knew he was in. There was another actress attached to the film and she couldn’t confirm dates. First of all we had to push the whole shoot by ten months because she was having a baby, and said a month after the birth she would be ready to shoot. We waited and after those ten months when she couldn’t confirm dates again I thought, we’re not going to use her. I sat down with Paul, we create together, when I film it’s just the actors and me, and I said, “who do we have in Canada that could pull off this role?” And Paul said Suzanne Clément and I said, “totally!” as soon as he said it, I thought it would be amazing. I think that sometimes things happen the way they’re meant to happen. We had to wait ten months in order to get Suzanne, that’s fine. That’s what we had to do. I would have waited two years. She’s the best possible actress for the role.

How do you feel about cinema as a means to help us understand the world?

Rowe: I believe it should. I like to try to do that in my films. How to understand ourselves, how to understand the world, I think it has that potential and I think that’s always what I’m aiming for.

Although you say you’re not into being politically correct, what are some themes or subjects you won’t touch in your films?

Rowe: I don’t like violence and I won’t do that kind of a film.

So you won’t be making the next Transformers?

Rowe: No, I don’t know…

You would make a very different Transformers, it would be a bit Kafka-esque.

Rowe: It would be so interesting! If they would give me Transformers I would do something really cool. But yeah, I don’t like violence. Sometimes I’d like to do comedy just because I would be so much nicer to myself during the six months of writing. It would have to be a very serious comedy. What I’m interested in is finding out how we can live our lives in the best way possible. Trying to get light moments in there, but I don’t think I can do that in a comedy. And I don’t know if my natural temper is that way.

The world isn’t much of a comedy these days…

Rowe: That’s the thing, it’s a little heavy and it’s not gonna get much better in the next twenty years… It’s not a moment for that. Comedies distract you and make life a bit more bearable but I don’t like looking away from problems. Comedies don’t teach. You laugh and then you go home and the problems are still there.

Is there a film you remember watching as a child?

Rowe: I remember seeing E.T. in a cinema when I was about 11 or 12 and I remember thinking that was the best imaginable possible film ever.

Three words that describe you?

Rowe: What a difficult question! Gentle, I wanna say, and if I reduce it to a single word it will lose — someone-who-feels-other-people’s-pain-very-intensely — “empathetic” is the actual word but it’s not the same thing… And loving.

What Men Want, According to Online Dating

I’m trying this online dating thing. You see, I’m late 30s and almost officially divorced. As a single mom, I don’t have much options meeting men and when I do go out, guys in their mid-20s flock to me. It’s sweet but not really practical.

So here I am, finally splashing in the big kid pool called dating. I wasn’t sure what men wanted at my age. I mean, I had been monogamous for years and so I didn’t know what to expect. I signed up for a few sites, and low and behold, I have learned a few things about what men want, according to online dating. I thought it would be conversation, company, and maybe sex.
Turns out it’s not exactly what I had expected.

Yard Work:
“I’m looking for a woman to go fishing with and do yard work. I hope she enjoys it!”

This was a message I received from a man.

Note, if you have ever seen me with a weed whacker, you would know that enjoying yard work + Laura is virtually impossible.

Apparently men don’t want good conversation, they want someone to pick those damn weeds!

Answer Their Damn Messages:
“We could have had something good together!”

I hadn’t responded to the 50th email of his so he was angry about all of our romantic tensions dying.

Apparently, men want to be acknowledged just like women, even if they’re stalkers.

Find Good Plastic Surgeons:
The first message I received from one man was: “I love your tits. Where did you get them done?”
Apparently, men want to know the names of good plastic surgeons for their future ex-wives I’m assuming.
P.S. They’re real, Kiddo.

No Games, No Drama:
No games. No drama. I’m no drama. I’m no games. I’m not here for games.
The game and drama speak is endless. Men shout from their online profiles: NO DRAMA.

Apparently, men are becoming VERY serious about their online dating and attempting to cover up their endless need for drama with a refusal of said need.
Everyone knows that when thou protests much there is something to hide.

A Foot Rub:
“I would love someone to rub my feet.”
Apparently, this guy’s concubine was out to lunch and he just needed a fill-in.
Hey if the pay is good…why not?

More Kids: But In His Order:
“I want more children. A boy first and then a girl, and a year apart total.”
Apparently, this is a baby-making service and not an online dating tool. I wonder how he planned on guaranteeing the gender of the kids?

I’ve Been So Blessed:
I messaged one man saying hello. He got back to me stating that “I am incredibly blessed with the ability to already find two people to talk to and so I will be closing all opportunities at this time.”

Apparently, he wasn’t blessed with two women to date but blessed with a gift from God or the ability to sound like a contestant in the Miss America contest.

At this rate, I may not be meeting quality men but at least I’m “learning” so much and laughing about it!

Signed,

Do We Really Want Equal Pay?

By Ann Friedman

The other day a little girl asked Hillary Clinton whether she’d be paid as much as a man if she were elected president, a frustrating reminder that the gender-based wage gap persists, even for women at the very top of the game.*

The line you hear, over and over, is that among full-time workers, women are still paid 77 cents for each dollar that men make. But for many women of color the gap is much bigger. According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, “In the 20 states with the largest number of African American women working full time, year round, pay for African American women ranges from 49 to 70 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men in those states.” As low as 49 cents for each dollar pocketed by white men. And that’s just the disparity in paid work. In countries across the world, women do more work than men — much of it for no compensation at all.

But as an activist goal, the demand of “equal pay for equal work” has never seemed less radical. In an era when inequality is rampant and wages are stagnant, the demand for equal pay seems willfully ignorant of the fact that equal pay with men won’t help the working poor, who aren’t paid a living wage regardless of gender. Even for professional-class women, “equal work” increasingly requires so many hours that the price of “equal pay” is too high, especially for women with health concerns or caretaking obligations.

Detractors often acknowledge that there is indeed a wage gap, then chalk it up to women’s choices. They add caveats to that 77 percent: “But we need to know how much of that is because of choices that people make over working hours, what job they do, the flexibility they might prefer over pay and so on, and then see what’s left which might be the result of direct discrimination,” writes Tim Worstall in Forbes. As if needing flexible hours or taking a job in a field traditionally dominated by women are acceptable reasons to make less money. As if women’s labor is worth less.

Most of us — myself included — have been thinking far too narrowly when it comes to why we’re really enraged by the wage gap. It’s not that we’re frustrated at making so little progress toward pay equality. It’s that we’re playing a game we can’t ever win. Even if women are paid equally to men in their occupations, “equal pay for equal work” is a way to make the best of a bad paradigm, a world in which most of us aren’t paid enough and everyone works too much. If you waved a wand and granted all women equal wages to men, it still wouldn’t solve what I consider to be the worst labor problems in the modern workforce. That no one can live on America’s minimum wage, even if (and it’s a big if) they work as many hours as humanly possible. That without meaningful subsidies, child care is prohibitively expensive. That working hours per week, even for salaried workers, have ballooned. That women still take on a disproportionate amount of labor that is completely uncompensated.

Last month, three feminist women of color — Bardot Smith, Lauren Chief Elk-Young Bear, and Yeoshin Lourdes — started a hashtag, #GiveYourMoneyToWomen. Their suggestion was that, rather than spend your money to try to elect the right politicians or support charities, we should send it directly to women who need it. They began tweeting links to PayPal and Square Cash accounts, and asking men to send them money. “For me the goal is a drastic cultural shift, to where what we’re doing is normalized,” Lourdes says in a conversation between the three women at Model View Culture, “so that all of women’s contributions command direct access to resources and without question. This is how things always should’ve been.” It is a way of questioning what sort of work we consider worthy of compensation. Their radical suggestion is that women be paid for all duties they are expected to perform for free: providing emotional support, putting up with catcalls, turning unintentional insults into teachable moments — the list goes on.

The hashtag was also a critique of predominantly white feminists who equate equality in the corporate world with overall equality. To focus on leaning in and breaking the glass ceiling, says Chief Elk-Young Bear, is to “actually subsume yourself more into patriarchy, more into these institutions, mimic the systems that have created the disaster world we live in.”

It’s easy to focus on a number like 77 percent — which is rage-inducing on its own — and ignore the thorny and interlocking problems that contribute to it. I care about short-term solutions like fixing workplace culture and figuring out how to negotiate better. I’m glad Obama created that task force on the pay gap. But our goal shouldn’t just be wage parity. It should be a reexamination of how people are expected to work, and how they are compensated for it.

Divorce – The Huffington Post

Need to File for a Divorce!

This Foolproof Guide Will Help You Get Out Of Things You Don’t Want To Go To

It begins innocently enough.

Your neighbor casually mentions an upcoming BBQ and you respond that it sounds like fun. The conversation turns to golf or harpoon guns or something else banal and you forget about the BBQ. Next thing you know, your family is responsible for bringing the potato salad to an all-day birthday party in a park across town. At the same time as the Niners game. And it’s the playoffs. And you hate potato salad.

We’ve all found ourselves committed to social events that either sounded like a good idea at the time but something came up, or that we were roped into against our conscious will. Bound by merciless societal norms, backing out sans excuse isn’t an option.

To help the over-committed un-commit gracefully, we’ve partnered with US Cellular to bring you a step-by-step guide to smoothly getting out of an undesirable party, shower, or event. To avoid awkward run-ins with the host in the future, read carefully and don’t skip a step:

1. Display Genuine Regret

First and foremost, you have to convey how unfortunate it is that you won’t be able to make it. The whole plan will fall apart if you don’t sell your regret. It reassures the host that you’re only skipping out because of unforeseen, uncontrollable outside factors. If you’re having a hard time with the delivery, channel your inner Ryan O’Neill or Tom Hanks (and not so much your Space Odyssey HAL).

2. Finely Tuned Excuse

A good excuse should be specific, but not too specific. Specific enough that it seems credible, but not so overly detailed that it feels forced. Illness is fine, but it’s tougher to give advance notice of an illness and you don’t want to inconvenience the party thrower unnecessarily. Instead, stick to events that came up without warning that take precedence for an obvious reason, like work-related projects or business trips. If necessary, you can also use family members as an out — blame it on the spouse or kids.

3. Pledge Future Commitment

This one is tricky because you don’t want to land yourself in the same predicament. Nevertheless, showing an interest in future plans reinforces step #1 and can often allow you to take the initiative. If your neighbor always throws BBQs on game day, you can propose something that fits your schedule better. If it doesn’t work out, it becomes more of a mutually unfortunate thing than just you being reticent.

4. Follow-up

The follow-up is key. Repeat steps #1 and #3 (not step #2 — remember, no over-selling), and reinforce the fact that you were genuinely interested. A simple text asking how it went usually works best.

5. Don’t Screw It Up

If you had to back out of the commitment for a less than savory reason (not everyone thinks football is as important as you), you want to make absolute sure you don’t screw it up by Tweeting “Touchdown” 10 minutes into the BBQ when you’re supposed to be at your spouse’s work function. Your digital trail is more closely watched than you probably realize. It also helps to have support from your family which brings us to…

6. Rehearse Alibi With Family

Your kids go to school together, your spouses go to the same gym, and you know people who know the same people. To make sure you don’t reveal conflicting stories, it might be helpful to rehearse the established alibi with the family.

7. Revel In Your Guilt-Free Freedom

Look, at the end of the day, the fact is that time is precious. Don’t spend your life doing things you don’t want to do. We all have to face uncomfortable social situations from time to time, so it’s best to do so with a plan. A well-crafted strategy will let you enjoy your activity of choice with peace of mind and ensure that you aren’t burning bridges or hurting anyone’s feelings. If you executed said plan well, make sure you enjoy the moment.

Many people are stuck with a decision they made — whether intentionally or unintentionally — in the past, but U.S. Cellular is offering an opportunity to walk away from your wireless ones. Switch to U.S. Cellular, get a better price, and get your entire existing contract paid off.

Female Viagra or Not, You’ll Want to Get Between These Sheets

irving penn sheets libido

Now that Addyi, the so-called female version of Viagra, has the stamp of approval from the FDA, everyone’s got an opinion—advocates say it’s a leap forward for women’s rights and sexual dysfunction, critics think it’s not effective enough and makes a joke out of pharmaceutical lobbying. If your stance happens to be somewhere in the middle of the issue, here’s another way of looking at things: It might be a great time to update your sheets, either to sleep in or get busy between. Whether you pop the “little pink pill” or not in the coming season, here are four amazing start-up, online-only bedding labels to peruse.

Boll & Branch
Founded by a husband and wife team last year, Boll & Branch sells sheets made of cotton sourced directly from local farmers around the world. Their sustainable linens come in simple whites, ivories, blues, and grays, with banded, pleated, and vintage-inspired trim.

Parachute
Manufactured in Tuscany, Parachute is focused on careful design—from its oversize cashmere throws that cover an entire bed, to its envelope closures on pillowcases. The company also partners with the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets antimalaria campaign. The designs are minimal and modern, with materials that range from sateen to linen.

Crane & Canopy
This bedding site works directly with manufacturers who are also in business with top luxury department stores, offering similar products at much lower costs. Crane & Canopy offers the widest range of styles and colors of the start-up bunch.

Brooklinen
Brooklinen’s offerings are made with neutral color palettes, like navy, gray, and white, and its sheet patterns only go as far as a thin pinstripe or window pane. The allure of this brand is certainly its technique and use of long-staple Egyptian cotton, which produces sheets and comforters that are softer than most.

Dr. Dre & Ice Cube Want Off Suge Knight Hit-And-Run Lawsuit

Before Straight Outta Compton rose to a historic box office weekend, there was Suge Knight killing Terry Carter nearby the set of a promotional video spot used to promote the film.

Although N.W.A members Dr. Dre & Ice Cube were on location, they feel their presence did not give just cause to Suge Knight’s behavior and they both have filed motion to get their names removed from the wrongful death lawsuit.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

The lawsuit against those involved with Straight Outta Compton alleges that the defendants should have known about the tensions between Dr. Dre and Knight and should have made security provisions to create a safe environment. It’s also alleged that Dr. Dre and Cube are vicariously liable for Sloan’s conduct.

In a demurrer filed last week, Dr. Dre and Cube say they committed no malfeasance, that their only affirmative act was a “specific request” that Sloan direct Knight to leave camp. This, they say, “did not create undue risks for anyone, let alone Carter.”

The two also say they owed no duty to Carter, that Knight’s assault wasn’t foreseeable, and raise the prospect of what might have happened if they allowed Knight to stay at base camp.

According to their motion, “These allegations plainly demonstrate that allowing Suge to remain at the base camp posed a serious risk that Suge could have injured someone at the camp — including Dr. Dre, Bone or one of the numerous cast and crew working on the film. Certainly, the risk that Suge might leave the base camp and proceed to his fatal confrontation with Carter was no more foreseeable than the possibility that Suge would injure or kill someone else if he had been permitted to stay.”

The former N.W.A members represented by attorney Alexander Cote say that there’s no proximate cause connecting their actions to Carter’s fatality, and argue that public policy and common sense can’t possibly demand “tolerating the presence of a dangerous and violent criminal with a grudge.”

Suge Knight is currently awaiting trial for murder of Carter and attempted murder of Sloan.

Watch the finished product that started it all down below.

Want To Have Better Orgasms? Here’s What You Need To Know

Imagine being sexually active for your entire adult life and never having an orgasm.

For Loly, a woman in her mid-twenties living in France, that scenario was a reality. Even though she was healthy, sex-positive and actively looking for ways to achieve orgasm, she didn’t find a way to do it until she came across an exercise that changed her life forever.

Of course Loly isn’t the only person — female or male — who has trouble with orgasming. Even though almost all of us are physically capable of having them, that doesn’t mean we are having them. And for those of us who can orgasm, all too often they can still be hard to come by, show up too soon or take forever to achieve.

So, for the latest HuffPost Love+Sex Podcast, host Noah Michelson (helming the show by himself this week due to co-host Carina Kolodny being out of the studio) went in search of tips, tricks and — ultimately — the truth about how everyone can achieve orgasms. And not just any orgasm but the very best orgasms possible.

To help him in his quest, Michelson chatted with Jenny Block, author of the recently published book O Wow! Discovering Your Ultimate Orgasm, and Ian Kerner, sex therapist and author of She Comes First: The Thinking Man’s Guide To Pleasuring A Woman:

Do Men Over 50 Only Want Younger Women?

Women ask me all the time about what they’re supposed to do about the men out there who say they only want younger women in their profiles.

I remember seeing it too but I never let it stop me from favoring a man and it shouldn’t stop you either.

But the question has always intrigued me so I did a little research to find out more about why this is happening and whether or not it’s true.

I started with an old boyfriend of mine who is 11 years older than me.

He told me it was an ego thing. He felt like women who were younger would make him feel more youthful and keep him active.

He and I were from completely different generations. Although he was on the cusp of being a boomer, he was actually at the tale end of what’s called the Silent Generation.

Some of our values and views of life were different and that created conflict, which ultimately ended our love relationship.

We’ve stayed friends but when we broke up, I suggested that he start dating women closer to his age, sharing that he’d have more in common with him than he and I did.

At first he taken aback, but guess what? He now dates women whose ages are within five years of his.

It turns out these women were not only great … they also kept him on his toes, often outdoing him when it comes to activities.

It just took someone gently pointing out the benefits for him to make the switch.

Next I went to my friend Ron who has taught me so much about men and what they are looking for.

When I posed this question to him, he said men have this idea of what they want but most men still look at women their own age and will contact them regardless of age if they are attracted to their picture online.

When he was dating, Ron would date women up to five years older than he was. His girlfriend now is about a year older than he is.

He told me the problem is women post pictures that make them look old. (Sound familiar? Think of all the men you thought looked old enough to be your grandfather!)

He said that alone stopped him from ever looking at a woman’s profile regardless of her age.

But if a woman’s look appealed to him, he’d view her profile and contact her if he liked what he saw.

I talked to my old high school boyfriend about this subject since I knew he’d dated younger women.

By the way, he is the ultimate handsome bad boy and women often drop their numbers written on business cards and napkins into his hand. They even do it when he’s having dinner with another woman.

Anyway, after his marriage ended, he admits he checked out younger women. He thought it would be fun.

He found he had absolutely nothing in common with them. And once the lure of sex wore off, he was bored.

He went back to women closer to his age as well.

I’ve brought up this older man/younger woman subject a lot to more men than just these three and their answers are similar to what I’ve shared with you.

So what can you do to get these guys’ attention in your profile?

You must have a fantastic picture that makes you look like you have great energy and are fun.

Your profile has to trigger a man’s heart to say, Hey, she might be the one. She sounds AMAZING!

When you read your profile, does it make you sound amazing or is it a resume of who you are?

And finally, you have to invite a man to write you without demands attached if he’s interested.

8 Things Single Women Want Their Married Friends To Know

2015-07-31-1438352045-2751802-2015_06_LifeofPixfreestockphotosfoatwomanbacksantalla.jpg

I’m a 51-year-old married mother to twin teenage daughters. I am blessed to have many girlfriends — mostly married, several single — and feel like I’ve been a good friend to them, regardless of their marital status. Kind of like Stephen Colbert’s “I don’t see color.”

Or am I fooling myself?

After my article on women without children in midlife went viral and I got several requests to write about single women in midlife, I wondered … Am I as inclusive as I think toward my single female friends? Am I making assumptions or being insensitive at times?

So I polled over a dozen of these women and got some pretty consistent feedback. Here is what single women want their married friends to know.

1. Yes, it can be tough to be single in midlife
There clearly are challenges to being single in midlife, from the merely practical to the more deeply personal.

Some daily tasks are just plain difficult when you live on your own. Stephanie* explains: “It is harder to get stuff done around the house; there’s just as much work but only one person. There’s no handy husband and you often run the risk of being ripped off by workmen you hire. When you have to move or lift things, you have to call someone for help. It has to be planned, not spontaneous. You also have to lean on friends for a ride to or from some doctors’ appointments — a colonoscopy buddy.”

Single mothers in particular feel the weight of responsibility managing so much on their own: “A lot rides on my shoulders. I’m worn out being the initiator in my business, in parenting, on the home front, and for the whole personal side of my life. Just too many decisions to make morning, noon, and night,” says Bonnie.

Gertrude agrees, wishing she had a partner to lean on, “It would be nice if someone was waiting to see me at the end of the day, to give me that warm hug and to offer support when I am going through something.” Nights can be lonely: “You have a lot of lunches with married friends because dinner time is for their families. Sometimes that means you are home alone on a Saturday night, unless you have lots of single friends,” explains Stephanie.

Family members may have unfair expectations when it comes to their single middle-aged relatives, especially when they don’t have children, like Stephanie: “Even your parents treat you differently when you are single and childless, or at least mine do. Despite the fact that my parents are retired and in good health, they have always expected me to use my limited vacation time to travel to them for the holidays or other visits, even when I have had better accommodations for a visitor than they do. I crave the opportunity to entertain my family in my house, to show them that I can cook, decorate for the holidays, and be a good hostess.”

Some, like Gertrude, resent the pity: “Holidays with the family have been awkward many times, especially when my young niece and nephews have their significant others with them. ‘Poor Auntie,’ still alone on the holiday — they don’t say it, but I sense this is what they think.”

And traveling alone can be awkward. “I love to travel and many trips that I have gone on included couples. Some couples try to include me in events, but I do feel like the third wheel sometimes,” explains Gertrude. Tracy is lucky to have a travel companion but she gets grief for that: “My best friend and I have been accused of being lesbians because we don’t date, we take vacations together, and spend a lot of time together. I don’t get it. We enjoy each other’s company — who else are we supposed to spend time with?”

2. Please include me in your social plans — I promise, I won’t “throw off” the balance
Navigating social occasions can be challenging, even demeaning at times. “I love being invited to go along with friends, whether they are couples or a group of people, but I find many people ‘count’ the group to make sure it is ‘even.’ Or they invite you and another single woman and seat you together as though the two women were a couple,” says Sue. “Others feel sorry for the single woman and always invite a single man to go along (rarely the right idea). I remember being invited to a wedding of a colleague and being seated with her grandparents and their friends because there were ‘no other single women there’ when I would have much preferred to be with young couples.”

Katie agrees, “I have a friend who always talks about how she and her husband and this couple and that couple went out for a fun evening. It reminds me that I don’t bring the requisite male to the mix, therefore mess up the balance.” Anne adds: “I usually enjoy your husbands, partners and wives, so when I say, ‘bring him or her,’ I mean it. Why can’t the three of us go to dinner?”

Stephanie has seen a difference in the way she’s been treated socially when she’s had a significant other: “I am used to going to events alone and being around lots of couples, so I would love to be included. I am not sure why inviting a single person is perceived as throwing off the party. And at times when I have been in a relationship, it is amazing how much more I was included in social events.”

Helaine, who has kids, felt the shift after her divorce, “What I don’t understand is how before we all had plans as a family, but now no. Since you’re not friends with my ex, why did you stop inviting us over or accepting requests for family plans? Why can’t a married family still make plans with a divorced family?”

Ellie yearns for inclusion: “I would rather be asked to the dinner party, gala, concert, etc. and go alone, than to find out later and have friends say, ‘it was all couples, and I thought you would be uncomfortable!'”

3. Girlfriends, know that I rely on your friendships
Time and again, single women describe the added importance of their female friendships in their lives. “I don’t need a partner to feel complete, but I do need my friends. Please know how important you are to me. I may seem fine living like a hermit, but having friends I can call at any time makes me feel as though I’m not alone,” explains Anne.

Joanne is thrilled to have good friends: “I feel I hit the ‘girlfriends lottery’ because I was lucky enough to have friends who believed friendships were important enough to maintain, even after they got married.” She cautions, “It’s never cool to drop your friends after you get married. When I hear about mature women who get a man and just drop their friends, it’s a tough pill for me to swallow. Now I have to admit that when I was in my early 20s, I thought I was in love and I neglected my best friend, Carol. Thank God Carol was still there when I came back, tail between my legs. She never said anything about it but I vowed that I would never drop a friend like that again.”

Ellie has been on the receiving end of being dropped by married girlfriends — in her case, after her divorce: “It hurt, a lot. It sucks to have women who were once your friends decide that you are suddenly the devil because you are not with their husband’s bestie. One of them actually told me that we could still be friends as long as I didn’t bring up all of the ‘garbage.’ That ‘garbage’ was my life! I told her to fuck off.”

And when it comes to making new married friends, Sue is surprised at the attitude she sometimes encounters: “Some people think they have nothing in common with you because you have never been married, but some of my relationships have lasted longer than their marriages! It is so funny to me that my 9-to-10-year relationship doesn’t count but their 6-month marriage does — or their serial marriages, in some cases!”

4. Just because I’m single and 50 doesn’t mean I’m desperate and will date anyone
Many, but not all, women who are single in midlife would like to be in a relationship and do enjoy dating. Sue describes “that wonderful feeling of first dates, that thrill of starting over.” But most of them say that dating in your 40s and later can be hard, that there are not that many eligible men who are a good match.

Bonnie feels it’s particularly discouraging that “men my age want to date someone 10 to 20 years younger than them. What is going on? Are they for real? I want someone my age. I don’t want someone 10 to 20 years older than me.”

These women appreciate being set up by their friends but resent it when the bar is set too low. Stephanie explains, “They are anxious to match me up with someone they know, their only criteria being that he is also single — no regard for my likes or dislikes. When I don’t act interested in the guy they describe as an alcoholic, someone who has weird social skills, the devoutly religious man of a different religion than mine, the guy who is nice but a little slow, or the one who poisons squirrels in his back yard, they think I am being picky. My well-meaning elderly neighbor suggested that I should act dumb on the first few dates to attract a man, as I apparently scare them off with my immense intellect!”

Nicole agrees, “Just because I am not seeing someone does not mean I am desperate and will date just anyone. If I was not attracted to a type of guy before, what makes you think that will suddenly change just because I’m over 40?” She also wants to make sure married women understand that “as a single woman over 40 who lives alone and has no kids, I still like sex!”

And yes, like Stephanie, single women in midlife get accused of being too picky or demanding. Gertrude explains: “They think I’m only looking for a certain type of man, good-looking with a lot of money. I am not. I value honest, friendly, and nonjudgmental people in my life. I am a professional and would like to be with a professional partner, but if I don’t feel the right vibe, all of what he is or has does not matter.”

5. My future is no worse than yours — there are no guarantees in life
The women I interviewed have pretty realistic perspectives on the future. Bonnie admits, “After being single for 8 years, I wonder if I will be single for the rest of my life. I don’t think so as I think I’m just entering my prime years, but I sometimes wonder.”

Sue gets annoyed at the questions: “I’m tired of people saying, ‘Who will take care of you when you are older?’ One of my friends has been married three times and outlived three husbands; there are no guarantees in this life. Yes, sometimes I think about what will happen if I age and lose my capacities but it is what it is and, if you prepare things properly and have someone who can be your advocate and executor, you don’t have to worry.”

Joanne agrees wholeheartedly: “Young women make it a point to mention that they are not going to end up at 50-something without a man. But there is nothing that you can do in your younger years that will absolutely guarantee that you will have a man when you’re in your 50s, or that he will be around for the long run. I always wish new couples a long and wonderful life together, but please don’t be cocky because nothing is guaranteed.”

6. Please believe me when I say it: I am okay
Women who are single in midlife want the rest of us to know that, despite life’s normal ups and downs, they are doing just fine. In Marie‘s words: “Gay marriage has become accepted and transgendered people are now demanding acceptance; I think singlehood is the next frontier of social acceptance. As a single older woman, I want acceptance, not suspicion or assumptions. I am not damaged goods. I am not sad. I am not a reject. That smile you see on my face is genuine.”

Sue agrees, “Some people think you never married because you were selfish or too focused on your career or too picky. Did they ever think it just wasn’t meant to be your life and there is nothing wrong with being single?”

Cari, divorced mother of a 7-year-old, appreciates her newfound independence: “Being single at this point in my life has many benefits, mainly the ability to make my own decisions about my life without having to ‘check’ with anyone. I get to decide how the money is managed, what bills get paid off first, what school or summer camp is appropriate for my child. There are no differences of opinion, no debates, and no accommodations to be made. My single life is very productive and busy. I’ll admit, there are times it would be nice to have a second set of hands around the house or around me, and someday I may meet someone who I want to spend my life with, but for now I am enjoying my decision-making freedom immensely. Being financially independent means that I do not ‘need’ a man in my life to survive, but should I decide I ‘want’ a man in my life, there is no pressure to prove myself or my worth; either you enjoy my company or you don’t. I have been married and lonely and, believe me, that is much worse than being single, independent, and free.”

Stephanie agrees: “I didn’t ever expect to be single for my whole life, but so far it has worked out that way. And now that I am beyond the ‘baby years,’ I am actually pretty much ok with it and wonder if marriage is even one of my goals anymore. If I had married any of the men I thought I wanted to marry, I am pretty sure I would be divorced now anyway. I am happy with the life I have built and am lucky to be able to afford most things that I want on one income.”

“Sometimes single status is a choice, not a temporary unfortunate state that I am trying to change,” explains Katie. “Being single allows me to focus on my family and not have anyone making demands on my time that would interfere with this fleeting time my children are living at home. As my nest empties, I see endless possibilities in my next chapter. I am unencumbered by a spouse’s work life. I feel like a freshman in college again. The world is my oyster!”

7. Being married does not give you the right to be insensitive
It’s amazing what people feel they can say to women who are single in midlife. Here are some examples from Sue, a never-married single woman in her 60s: “When I moved to a new home and met new people, they seemed taken aback that I never married. I was greeted with ‘How could that be?’ and ‘For real, you never got married?’ or ‘Not even for a little while?’ One woman actually said ‘You should have gotten married and divorced so you could say you had been married.’ Crazy stuff!”

Sue also warns that people should not ask why you’ve never been married: “One friend of mine lost two fiancés to early deaths before they married and she absolutely hates to be asked this question.”

And watch the way you talk about single women with other partnered people. In Joanne’s words, “Once you hit 40, it’s automatically assumed ‘She has issues, or something is wrong with her, or she’s selfish, or she didn’t get married due to her career, or she must hate men, or she lives a sad and lonely existence.’ It’s the image of the ‘old spinster’ with a house full of cats. I feel lucky that my girlfriends look at me as the whole person that they know me to be and judge me solely on that, not on any narrow-minded definitions of single women over 40.”

Marie feels there are other stereotypes to watch for: “One is that we just might be a bit morally loose. One time, when my son had a new friend sleep over for the first time, the mom, who knew I was single and living alone, said, ‘You don’t have any boyfriends sleeping over, do you? I can’t let my son sleep over if you do.’ This same (married) woman ran away with her (married) church pastor a few months later!”

Single women want us to know that being single is just one small aspect of their very full lives. And they certainly don’t want our pity. In Marie’s words: “A college sorority sister, with whom I reconnected on social media after 35 years, messaged me to say, ‘Too bad your marriage didn’t work out; but at least you have a beautiful son.’ True, but evidence of my marital status is scant, while evidence of my great career, exciting expatriate years, and my fun times with friends are splashed all over Facebook every day.”

These women are often expected to dole out the gifts for every life event but would appreciate some reciprocity once in a while. Jodi explains, “You get a gift when you get engaged, another gift for the bachelorette party, and then an actual wedding gift. Then come the kids; some of my friends tell me what to get their kids, even when I don’t ask. And do I ever get a gift?” Gertrude agrees that is would be nice to receive “flowers or other gifts on special days.”

8. Once and for all, I’m not after your husband
Admittedly, the most shocking finding from these interviews was how often this apparent issue came up. So, all you married ladies, rest assured, most middle-aged single ladies are NOT flirting with your husbands. Here is just a sampling of what I heard…

Sue: “When women view us as a threat to their relationships, that is hurtful, as if they don’t trust you or think you have integrity. I wish my married friends understood I don’t want their spouses even if I appreciate spending time with them. I wish they understood that you can be friends with men and not threaten their marriage.”

Marie: “Married ladies, I am not after your husband. I honor your marriage and your friendship. Not all of us are trolling. We are busy raising our children and looking for our own Mr. Wonderful. Sure, there are exceptions, but don’t automatically assume I can’t be trusted when I chat with your husband at the intramural game. Rest assured we chat pleasantly and I make sure to mention you often.”

Gertrude: “I try not to make long conversations with the husband to prevent feelings that I want their man. I respect marriage and would never try to be with another person’s husband.”

Helaine: “This always comes up. I have been explicitly told to stay away from their husbands by two women, one to my face, one behind my back.”

Can we stop assuming and judging and lean in to understanding and acceptance? Are we all so different? Ellie sums it up: “I am one of you. I am trying every day to be a good mother, a good daughter, a good sister, a good granddaughter. I am working on myself, fighting my demons, winning sometimes, losing sometimes. I am a woman just like you.”

You’ll Want This Huge Bong Disguised As A Coffee Mug After Seeing It Used In Public

TK TK gifs

Many Americans need coffee every morning, while others have developed waking needs that may not be inside of the law in all 50 states. Although the need for keeping these desires hidden seems to be quickly vaporizing into the dank air, those who fall into the latter category may now be able to more easily pass themselves off as simple, law-abiding joe drinking Joes.

“Coffee mug water pipe” makers IronMan Design told The Huffington Post that their “pipe” can be used to smoke regular or shisha tobacco, the kind commonly found in hookahs. That said, they also told HuffPost that the product is modeled after the coffee-mug bong from “The Cabin in the Woods,” a similarity that io9 pointed out. Go to their website, and you’ll find only smoking tobacco is mentioned in the product description, but the original movie version was certainly about getting “stoned.”

IronMan Design has recently released a couple videos featuring YouTube prankster Eric Bert – who is not an employee — where Bert asks for a seemingly innocuous light while holding the mug in its compact form before whipping out the secret extension. A GIF from the most recent video went viral on Reddit earlier Tuesday.

You can watch the original below, while IronMan Design said that the third installment would be coming “sometime late this week or early next week.”

Canadians Don’t Want Kanye West To Perform At Pan Am Games

After Kanye West defied the evens and conquered Glastonbury, he has another non-American sect of people who don’t want to see him sully their beloved land.

A petition has been started to keep Yeezus out of performing at the closing ceremony of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. Despite the U.S.A. and Canada being linked by the same continent, naysayers reportedly feel that Drake, Walk Off The Earth, Feist and Metric are more deservedly of those CAD earnings.

“Kanye West’s words and conduct are antithetical to the spirit of the Pan Am Games,” one petitioner wrote, according to Sportsnet. “Canada abounds in musical talent that is undoubtedly better-suited for this event and should be featured at the closing ceremonies.” Retired NHL player/coach Don Cherry also echoed those sentiments in a Twitter rant.

Toronto rapper Maestro, who performed at the opening ceremonies, defended West to local CBC TV saying, “It would have been nice to see a Canadian [perform at the Pan Am Games] but you know what, that’s a staple for hip hop right there, so a shoutout to Kanye, a shoutout to Canada.”

Pitbull is also slated to perform but naturally, the lion’s share of the outrage belongs to Kanye. Nevertheless, the show will proceed on July 26 as planned. Toronto mayor John Tory just gave his stamp of approval so don’t expect anything to change.

Check out Coach Cherry’s aforementioned rant in the gallery below.

Earl Sweatshirt Calls Odd Future A “Teenage Boys Club” He Doesn’t Want To Define Him

(AllHipHop News) Up to this point Odd Future affiliates Earl Sweatshirt, Matt Martians of The Internet, and Tyler, The Creator have made it clear the California collective is not what it once was. Tyler ignited the public discussion of the end of OF with one tweet in May, Earl backed up that sentiment, and Martians expounded on the situation in an interview with AllHipHop.com.

“It’s a badge. It’s a great thing. Everything has to move on. Everything has to have closure,” said Matt last month. “I think what rose from that is what really matters. A lot of great careers spawned from that, and a lot of great careers will continue to spawn from that.”

Earl has now further explained why he wants to shed the label of Odd Future. The creator of the critically acclaimed album I Don’t Like Sh*t, I Don’t Go Outside spoke with The Guardian.

“The OF thing follows you – it’s viral – even though not one thing I’ve done in the past couple years has been focused on OF,” stated Earl. When asked if Odd Future is a family he wants to escape, the Los Angeles native added, “It’s my teenage boy club that got famous that I’m trying to not be defined by.”

Fans of “The X-Files,” it’s time to believe.

Fox dropped a blink-and-you-missed-it teaser for the upcoming miniseries during “Wayward Pines” on Thursday night. The clip is just 15 seconds long, with less than 10 seconds of actual footage. But to fans waiting for the first new episodes since 2002, it hit all the right notes — including the opening notes of the show’s unmistakable theme song.

Check it out in the clip above, which features lots of flashlights, a trail of blood and quick glimpses of Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully and David Duchovny as Fox Mulder.

“The X-Files” kicks off its six-episode run in January.

Want to Make Sure Your Kids Get Over the Divorce? First, Let Them Go Through It

I’ve made a children’s picture book about what it can feel like to go through a divorce or separation. Mine doesn’t try to convince kids that the divorce is for the best. Instead, it cuts to the chase about how empty and unhelpful that phrase is to kids.

My title, Divorce Is the Worst, has provoked criticism from parents who resent any negative language around their divorce. Even recently divorced friends have told me they are reluctant to share it with their child because “he’s doing so well.” They don’t want to introduce the idea that divorce is a big deal.

Meanwhile, the book has been welcomed by kids, counselors, teachers, lawyers and librarians. In presentations to groups of kids, some yell when they hear the title: “That’s for sure!” and “You can say that again!”

Just as sex education doesn’t “give” young people the idea to have sex, acknowledging that divorce is disruptive, life-changing and often hard isn’t what makes it so.

I was 14 years old when my parents told me and my four siblings about their decision to divorce. They said it was for the best, and it was, for them. For me, it was the worst thing that could happen to our family other than a death.

My parents portrayed their divorce as a positive thing: a solution to the problem, not the problem. They told us not to let it affect us. It was a bump in the road, that’s all.

Though they claimed to also be fine with it, my mother had an edge of meanness in her voice now that was brand new; she sang along to Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude” and discussed our father’s flaws with us. We saw Dad for dinner on Wednesdays — an awkward event we dubbed “broken home night” from which I always returned hungry (not for food, just more of him).

Though the messages from both of them were mixed, they were clearly suffering a loss. I concluded that my pain was trivial next to theirs. No one had died and I should be grateful I still had two parents. And then, God help me, I chose a side: theirs.

For the next 25 years, the two sides battled it out inside me: my parents’ need for a divorce vs. my attachment to our original family, the one that still smiles at me from childhood photos.

Lisa Spiegel, Soho Parenting cofounder and director, describes the impulse to minimize the impact of a divorce on kids as protective in its intention. “There’s this idea that to address or mention any negative feelings may make the child feel worse,” says Spiegel, who works with parents and children. “But that is not in tune with a child’s reality. Acknowledging the impact does not create the impact — it was already there.”

When children’s lives and homes unravel, people are quick to wave it away (usually as a way of comforting worried parents), saying: “Oh, kids are resilient — they’ll get over it.” Cartoonist Lynda Barry describes “the resiliency of children” in her book 100 Demons as “the ability to exist in pieces” and she calls it what it is: “a hope adults have about a child’s inner life, that it’s simple, that what can be forgotten can no longer affect us.”

“A child needs explicit permission from the adult to have their own feelings,” says Terry Real, a family therapist, best-selling author and founder of the Relational Life Institute. “Taking care of the parent implicitly or explicitly by not sharing feelings and not burdening the parent is a really bad idea for the child. The parent needs to step in and make it clear the child’s feelings are not a burden.”

Here’s my view, born of experience and supported by child therapists and divorce mediators today: until we stop telling kids the divorce is for the best (as if that is a comfort), they may continue to experience it as the worst, long after the initial announcement that rocked their world. You can’t get over something you never went through in the first place.

Real resilience is earned, by going through stuff and seeing it for what it is. In the meantime, kids aren’t resilient so much as dependent. Life comes at them. They take it in and keep going — but not because they’re so Zen. What choice do they have? Our children will love us and remain loyal to us through almost anything. That’s what kids do to survive. They will even join us in pretending.

“When there is support, processing, narrative and comfort around trauma, we tend to be able to feel our feelings and experience our pain,” Spiegel assures. “We recognize that there are other loving figures around us and move through it.”

Parents don’t have to feel guilty for their divorce or stay in an unworkable relationship. But we have to recognize that our experiences are separate from our children’s. That backpack they haul from place to place each week? It holds way more than anyone can see.

You Want Attention? Talk About Me, Not You

I don’t mean to literally talk about me, Tucker Max, that would be a terrible way to get attention.

I am talking about “me” in the plural sense, as the customer or reader or client. Lemme explain. Every single day of my life, someone asks me this question:

“How do I get people to pay attention to my writing? What’s your trick?”

So I’ll ask them who their writing is for, and this is what they say:

“Me, me, me, me, me, me! MEEEE!! EVERYONE LOOK AT ME!!”

OK, I’m exaggerating. They usually don’t scream, but the answer is always about themselves, never about their audience. They tell me what their book or blog post or writing means to them. Most people write only with themselves in mind, and not with an audience in mind.

And that’s precisely the reason why no ones care about their writing.

It’s really funny that Tucker Max is telling you this, isn’t it? To not focus on yourself? Because you’re probably thinking, “Didn’t you sell millions of books that were just talking about yourself?”

Actually, no.

My books are the perfect example of the right way to do this. Even if you’re a huge fan and read all my books cover to cover, you still don’t know very much about me at all. My books are funny stories about stupid things I did, and they are designed to entertain the reader. There is almost nothing in there that is actually about me, or written for me. It’s all written for the reader – which is why it sells so well, and that is key lesson here. If you’re trying to get attention for your writing – or actually, ANY product or idea at all – please listen to this fact:

No one cares about your writing. They only care about what your writing does for them.

This is the best advice you can get for trying to get anyone to do anything – read your writing, buy your product, go to your bar, anything. My area of expertise is writing and books and publishing, but this applies to everything. See, watch it work:

No one cares about your product, they only care about what your product does for them.

And of course, services:

No one cares about your service, they only care about what your service does for them.

Watch it work in all sales:

No one cares about what you’re selling, they only care about what it does for them.

It even works in broad categories, like ideas:

No one cares about your idea, they only care about what your idea means to them.

I bet you understand already. We’re all sophisticated buyers of products and services, and this is how we buy things for ourselves  - - by calculating if the product or service will provide a value to us.

Yet, when the roles are reversed and people start trying to get attention for their product or service, they lose their damn minds, and somehow think that everyone has to pay attention to them just because they want them to. It’s like as a society we have decided to be perfectly rational buyers, and totally irrational sellers.

But at least with a product or a service, people ultimately understand that they’re making something for someone else. So unless they are blinded by the self-proclaimed brilliance of their idea/product, they eventually get that it has to appeal to the buyer. With books or blog posts or writing, people really lose their minds, because people think of a their writing in a totally different way.

Most people see their writing as a piece of themselves, as a representation of their identity, or some sort of personal validation. They think that getting attention for their writing will confirm and validate their idea, and thus themselves. I have seen this over and over and over.

I would say less than 10 percent of the writing I see is actually about delivering value to an audience; the rest is ultimately about the writer, not the audience. You’re probably making this mistake too, without even realizing it.

This is literally what we deal with everyday in our publishing company. When we started our company, we thought the most important service we provided to authors was saving them time (our process only takes authors about 12 hours). That time saving is great, but the real value we provide to authors comes from helping them see exactly what wisdom they have that’s interesting to other people  —  which is the only way to get attention for your book.

We charge a decent sized fee for our services, but I’ll explain to you exactly what we do to get authors to understand this, because if you write anything for anyone  —  a book, blog, newsletter  —  this is process will make your writing better.

There’s three basic steps that will ensure you get attention for your book or blog post (and yes, this works almost the exact same way for anything):

-What is your goal for this book/blog post/piece of writing (or product or service or idea)?

-What audience do you need to reach in order to accomplish that goal?

-What wisdom, information or value can you deliver to that audience that will help them reach their goals?

Do you see what that process does? It centers the entire discussion on the audience, not on yourself. Why does this matter? Because no one cares about your writing, they care about what your writing does for them.

I’ll give you a specific example of how we took an author through this process, how it turned his book from a dud into something that got a ton of attention, and it will show you how to do this with your writing (or product):

This entrepreneur wanted to write a book about how he built a large commercial plumbing contracting business, in order to drive clients to his business and raise his profile in the plumbing industry. He was very proud of his company and wanted more people to know about it (and I think he secretly had visions of this book elevating him alongside famous business people like Jack Welch and Sheryl Sandberg). There was a small problem:

No one on earth wants to read a self-congratulatory book about plumbing (I won’t make the obvious poop joke here).

We walked him through our exercise, and he realized that the audience he needed to hit in order to reach his goal (people who buy commercial plumbing services or care about the plumbing industry) were never going to read his book  —  unless he said something of interest to them.

So we asked him a bunch of questions about plumbing, the problems in the business, his experiences, and realized something: He had an incredible way of evaluating and speccing out commercial jobs that was genuinely revolutionary (at least as far as you can revolutionize plumbing). And guess what? That information would be incredibly valuable to the exact audience he needed to hit: people who buy commercial plumbing services.

So that’s what his book became  —  the definitive guide on how to evaluate and spec out commercial plumbing jobs. Which will NOT put him next to the titans of business, but it WILL get him in front of exactly the people he wants, in exactly the way he wants it.

And it’s happening only because he used his wisdom to help his audience reach their goals.

See how this works? This is the key to getting attention for any writing  –  books, blog posts, even tweets  —  first make your writing about the other person, help them reach their goals, and that will inspire them to both engage your writing and then share it with others. That’s the only writing that anyone cares about reading  –  the writing that helps them.

You decide what to read based on the same calculus, right  —  what is potentially useful to you? So why do you think anyone will read your writing based on what it means to you? They won’t. Write with your audience in mind, and then getting attention is easy. And if you do that, then they will engage your writing (or product or idea), and that is how you reach your goal.

As my friend Justine Musk says, “The question isn’t how the world can cater to your passions, but how your passions can cater to the world.”

Music Pundits Want To Know Why Kidd Kidd Is An XXL Freshman [Photos]

Vanessa Satten and her XXL magazine staff are very clever. Every year, they manage to create immense conversation from particular individuals who trend on social media because they are or are not included on the annual Freshman cover.

This year, it happens to be Kidd Kidd. As in, Kidd Kidd who was with Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records in the early 00s and previously released an album that should have elimated him from Freshman consideration, Kidd Kidd.

Now we’re not going to hop on the Black Twitter “fake mad” wave and front like the New Orleans G-Unit member is ass on the mic because that’s simply not true; haters be damned. However, XXL is claiming that Kidd Kidd was handpicked by fans as the 10th spot winner. Gauging by the majority of reactions (and we do mean majority) there hasn’t been enough substantial evidence to prove 50 Cent didn’t have an influential hand in making this happen.

Take a look at what a handful of the more visible industry heads are saying about Kidd Kidd making the 2015 XXL Freshman.
