10 Watches You Can Wear to the Office and the Beach

It’s summertime again—unless you live in Australia—and beach-chic timepieces and watches are back in style.

13 of the Most Stylish Watches You Can Own Under $ 250

While you may not always have the means to escape the office for the beach, there’s no harm in at least giving the impression you’d be ready to swap out your business suit for a swimsuit if need be.

Here are 10 killer casual watches that are as summer-ready as you are.

Aquatico Automatic ST

Aulta Surf co-founder Marty Pomphrey makes watches for “cool surf dads” who’ve never given up on the dream. Featuring a Japanese Miyota automatic movement and scratch resistant sapphire crystal, the Acuatico is a stunning and sturdy timepiece that looks far more expensive than it is. A 40-hour power reserve paired with a water resistance of up to 200 meters makes the Acuatico Automatic the perfect amalgamation of work and not-work. [$ 250; aultasurf.com]

Spinnaker Croft Automatic

Taking its namesake from Robert Croft—the first man to free dive to a depth of 200 feet—the Spinnaker Croft Automatic is a stunning 43mm diver timepiece that exemplifies the beauty of nautical watches. A killer bezel and screw down crown are just some of the few details that class this watch up, while the Marine grade stainless steel alleviates the fears of those particularly clumsy Spinnaker customers. AVI-8 Hawker Hunter

What a babe of a watch. It’s a bold statement to label a watch as both a “hurricane” and a “hunter,” but this thing deserves it. Whether you wear this to boost your sales or boost your sails, AVI-8 has mastered crafting the kind of watch that looks good against any backdrop. [from $ 210; avi-8nation.com]

This thing is a beast: TA2 aerospace-grade 44mm titanium case, scratch-resistant sapphire glass crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water-resistant up to 1,000 meters. Waterproof up to 100 meters, the limited edition watch is your ultimate work-to-swim accessory when sprinting from your tedious day job to the peaceful beach. Throw on your Rado, pop off your shirt, and ride the waves. [$ 1,900; rado.com]

Pretty on the Inside: 10 Great-Looking Watches With Internal Bezels

The external bezel, featured on all sorts of watches, from Seikos to Rolexes and everything in between, is a proud assertion that the thing you’re wearing on your wrist does more than just tell simple time — it’s a tool that can be used to aid divers, pilots, doctors, and so on. But there’s a subset of watches that make that assertion a bit more subtly, by placing the bezel on the inside of the watch, integrated as part of the dial itself and operated with a separate crown on the case. Functionality aside, an internal bezel also provides some nice visual touches, adding a sense of depth and texture to the dial. Here are 10 we’d be happy to have in our collection.

Just in Time for Summer, 28 Stylish New Watches

Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, Vogue, February 2014

The platinum and diamond watch that F. Scott Fitzgerald gave his fiancée Zelda Sayre in 1920 did not measure her heartbeats or tally her burned calories. It cost $ 600, a fortune at the time, it was inscribed From Scott to Zelda, and the recipient, during one of the couple’s vicious arguments, threw it from a train window a few years later. (Think of it—walking along the tracks somewhere in the middle of nowhere, you might yet find this thing, or so I have always hoped.)

Wearing a little clock on your wrist in Zelda’s era was an indispensible tool—how are you going to show up for tea at the Biltmore or meet your beloved for an illicit dip in the Pulitzer Fountain if you don’t know what time it is? Now we have a perfectly reliable timekeeper in our phone, an instrument that is ever in our palms (even at funerals! At job interviews! Put that thing away!), which means that the wristwatch, in addition to marking the hours, must offer a whole lot more than mere ticking! It must be breathtakingly stylish, or at least wildly interesting—sure, it can bring us our emails, map the quickest route from the Louvre to Galeries Lafayette, and pay for our groceries, but will it give your chic twenty-first-century outfit a jolt, a bang, of pure delight?

Here our candidates for the toniest tickers, circa summer 2015.

Milo Ventimiglia Watches ‘Gilmore Girls’ In Web Series, Declares ‘Rory Sucks’

File this under weird, meta and something we probably could have done without.

In a clip from the CW Seed web series “The P.E.T. Squad Files,” Milo Ventimiglia’s character Cash watches Rory tell Jess that she really doesn’t want to be with him on “Gilmore Girls.” Ventimiglia, of course played Jess on the CW series, which aired from 2000 to 2007.

“You guys watching Gilly Girls? I fucking love that show! Hey, Cash, that guy kind of looks like you,” his friend says in the clip, adding, “I took one of those personality tests, I’m like a classic Rory.”

“Rory sucks, bro,” Ventimiglia replies, which might be funnier if he and Alexis Bledel didn’t date in real life for three and a half years, or apparently have a tumultuous relationship of their own.
