When college radio went mainstream—and 21 bands that came with it

In the early 1980s, a new generation of radio programmers took over the airwaves at college radio stations around the United States, introducing their fellow students to underground rock, British and European imports, regional punk scenes, and a different kind of hip-hop than you’d hear on commercial stations. A few years later, some of those bands started showing up on MTV and breaking into Billboard’s albums and singles charts. Here are some of the college-radio bands that made major moves into the mainstream in the late 1980s and early ’90s.

Omarosa Manigault At The NABJ Conference Went Off The Rails

Whoever invited Omarosa Manigault to the National Association of Black Journalists conference better do some soul searching. The former reality star and Cheeto Trump ride or die’s presence has gone as expected, completely off the rails.

A quick perusal of Twitter finds “Omarosa” trending for all the wrong reasons.

So far, attendees have turned their back on Manigault as she sat on a panel.

She also got into it with Ed Gordon on stage.

Apparently, Manigault took issue with being asked about Cheeto’s stand on police brutality instead of her brother, who reportedly murdered in “a lover’s quarrel” and father who was murdered when she was a child. The nerve. Especially since the panel’s subject was…police brutality.

And, of course, there’s the continued, “Why would you invite such a reviled figure to an NABJ conference in the first place?” slander.

Peep the reactions to today’s NABJ and Omarosa fail below and on the following pages.

Ahh yes, the finger pointing has begun.

Taxstone vs. Joe Budden Went Downhill Fast

Joe Budden was the guest on Taxstone’s Tax Season podcast. The conversation was combative from the start and ended on a hostile note.

To sum things up, Tax often called Joe Budden a “master manipulator,” while the New Jersey rapper (sometimes) answered questions about the Hollow Da Don battle, his life choices and his various relationships.

For the most part Budden kept his calm (often taken as condescending) demeanor, while Tax was generally amped.

Stephanie Santiago of the Lip Service podcast was also in the studio and tried to referee the situation, but it was clear that Tax was frustrated because he couldn’t get the answers he wanted out of Budden.

Who was in the right or wrong here? Was Joe Budden ducking the tough questions? Was Tax belligerent without reason? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Why This Tweet Went Viral

You already saw my Robots Read News comic about self-driving cars. This one got more attention than any other tweet I have done. Let’s see why.

1. It is a visual image. Pictures do better than text.

2. It uses three dimensions of humor: Cruel, clever, bizarre

3. No person or group is offended (so it is easy to retweet without fear)

4. Self-driving cars are a hot topic and sexy enough that folks want to be associated with it. Robots are extra-topical these days too. When you combine two headline trends, you usually get something funny.

5. The comic portrays all humans as dumb. That theme always performs well.

6. It is brief and has no sound, so it easy to consume. People can forward it without feeling they are asking much of the recipient.

7. It looks good on mobile devices.

8. It has no sexual or other problematic content, so people can forward it without professional risk.

There are other ways to go viral, but if you hit all of those eight points, you will probably get people’s attention. True viral activity doesn’t often happen because even professionals can’t generate viral content on demand. This comic idea popped into my head while I was thinking of something else and I wrote it down. I doubt I could have started from scratch to build a viral tweet and succeeded. But I did consciously make it conform to the eight points to increase its chances.

At Top Tech Blog, a breakthrough in super capacitors could change the world in a big way by replacing traditional batteries. We might be getting close with this.

My book is getting a lot of attention lately. It has been out long enough that people are reporting improvements in fitness, weight, careers, and life in general.

16 Iconic Film Roles That Almost Went to Someone Else

iconic movie actor roles

An old Entertainment Tonight clip featuring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams doing press for The Notebook resurfaced online today. In the interview, Gosling confessed that he actually did a screen test with Britney Spears before McAdams ultimately won the part. “I hadn’t seen her really since she was about 12,” the actor said about his former fellow Mouseketeer. “She’s really good, actually.”

While it’s nearly impossible to imagine Spears kissing Gosling during a South Carolina rainstorm, there are several instances in Hollywood history where similarly iconic roles almost went to someone else. Sarah Jessica Parker may be synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw, but the lead role of Sex and the City was actually offered to another actress before Parker. Ditto with Forrest Gump and Elle Woods. Here, a look at some of the other close casting calls in Hollywood.

How One Model Went From Reality TV to Fronting the Fashion Campaign Everyone’s Talking About

hillier bartley

The launch of Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley’s luxurious new label, Hillier Bartley, brought with it more than a wealth of luxurious sportswear. The design duo’s first campaign—a soft-focus image completely in line with the “rock-’n’-roll femininity” Bartley described to Vogue’s Sarah Mower—has introduced the world to modeling’s rising star Aida Becheanu. As one of the contestants on Romania’s Next Top Model back in 2011, the 20-year-old Becheanu has successfully made the transition from reality television to high fashion—much like TV alums Suvi Koponen and Aamito Lagum before her.

Describing the Top Model experience as somewhat surreal and “completely different” from the actual modeling industry, Becheanu has no plans to reprise her television moment. The time she spends in front of the camera now is with key photographers like David Sims, who shot her for both the Hillier Bartley ads and a slick story for Arena Homme Plus. Sims’s pared-down style suits Becheanu to a tee. “Working with him feels natural,” says Becheanu. “It didn’t even feel like work—he wants you to show your personality instead of simply posing, and I love that.”

Besides getting to shoot with Sims, appearing in the Hillier Bartley ads came with additional perks, namely a first look at the collection, including its covetable velvet-patched sweaters and exotic accessories. With its focus on quality and subtlety, the line’s pieces meshed well with Becheanu’s understated tastes. “The clothes are totally my style, and the quality was really beautiful,” says Becheanu. “Luella [Bartley] and David [Sims] were both so wonderful on set, so it was just a pleasure to have such a great time during my very first campaign.” Now Becheanu has her sights set on New York. “I’m concentrated on my work at the moment—I’m excited for my first season here in New York. I just arrived a few days ago and I can’t wait.”

Jake Johnson on His New Movie and Where New Girl Went Wrong

jake johnson digging for fire

If it seems like a curious move for the hapless, lovable Jake Johnson and mumblecore-extraordinaire Joe Swanberg to write a movie about searching for a dead body, you’d be right, but you haven’t heard the whole story. The premise for their newest film, Digging for Fire, actually begins very much in reality—right in Johnson’s own backyard. “What really happened was I was digging in the backyard with my wife and I found a rusted gun, bones, and license plate,” Johnson said. “Now, it very well could have been animal bones and a kid’s gun that got rusted, but for the sake of mystery, I got excited about it.” Johnson corralled a bunch of friends and hosted a 10-day backyard excavation, but no skeleton was unearthed.

The fiction of Digging for Fire will probably strike viewers as a lot more familiar. Swanberg assembled most of the cast from 2013’s Drinking Buddies (Johnson, Ron Livingston, and his movie muse Anna Kendrick) then added more star power (Orlando Bloom, Mike Birbiglia, Brie Larson, to name a few). Johnson plays a husband struggling to get it together. After his wife, played by Rosemarie DeWitt, packs up their toddler (starring Swanberg’s adorable son, Jude) and leaves him for a weekend with a tablefull of undone taxes, both spouses go on a lo-fi self-discovery journey. While the somewhat grim outlook on long-term relationships is characteristic of Swanberg’s oeuvre, Johnson was less interested in that. “I was really excited about the dead body—to be a twelve-year-old about this movie,” Johnson said. “I wasn’t there when they were shooting the Rosemarie DeWitt stuff, so a lot of that was more open-ended. For me, it was just about the dead body.” Here, more from Johnson about Digging for Fire, Chris Messina going full frontal, and where New Girl went wrong.

Why did you opt for a short outline instead of a traditional script?
We had an outline so that we were able to pitch people, which had a beginning, middle, and end. With every actor coming in, we wanted them to bring their own brain and their own creativity. We know what needs to happen in a scene, but Joe, as a director, doesn’t really care how you get there, as long as it’s good. His theory is: Get good people and good things will happen.

You’ve obviously worked with Joe Swanberg and a number of the people in this movie. Is the casting process now like inviting a few friends over?
Yes, this one was. We connect this movie with Drinking Buddies. We knew people who liked Drinking Buddies and so we just reached out to them, or they had expressed that they liked it. They were interested in the world. So we said, “We’re making this one, do you want to come jump on?”

How did Orlando Bloom get involved? Because he seems like—
An outsider. That was through the agents. He’s my surprise pick because I think he’s great in the movie. He’s the guy you don’t expect in this thing, but he brought a lot to it. A lot of his character, and what makes his character interesting, he wrote. He wanted to have a motorcycle; he wanted to get into a fight. And Joe loved all of it.

What about Chris Messina’s full frontal? Was that a conversation?
When we asked Chris to be in the movie, what we said was his character needed to add an element of danger to the movie, [like] this night is getting more out of control than my character is kind of ready to deal with. And so Chris was, like, “Well, we could be blowing coke and screaming and getting drunk.” And then he goes, “I should just whip my dick out and get in the pool.” And Joe and I laughed, and then on set, he whipped his dick out and got in the pool.

Do you prefer improv to scripted TV?
Well, in scripted TV we improvise a lot, too. I like having a good script, but I like being able to have some freedom with it. So I’m one of those in-betweeners. I’m not necessarily looking to do heavy drama that is word-perfect. I like good writing, but I like being able to be in the moment and have good things happen.

New Girl kind of turned a corner at the end of season four. How have you felt about Nick and Jess’s ups and downs over the course of the series?
Zooey [Deschanel] and I knew it wasn’t working when Nick and Jess were together because there was so much fighting and they were always standing across from each other in some absurd argument. And we were, like, this is kind of spoiling something that’s nice between these two characters. I think the writers saw that, too, and I think we’re all relieved that they’re back to being friends. There might be some tension, but they’re friends.

When you would get a script that had Nick and Jess doing something you didn’t necessarily agree with, was it like getting a mandate from the boss?
Yes. We would see a scene and it would be like, “All right, I guess Nick and Jess are doing this?” And we would talk and sometimes we would say, “That’s great!” And other times, we’d be, like, “Why are they doing this?” But at the end of the day, you’re not being paid as a writer. I’m an actor. What they’re going to write for you is what you’re going to do. So if you like it or not, it really doesn’t matter. I don’t mean that in a mean way, but that’s partly what it is to be on a TV show.

How are you feeling about the fifth season of New Girl?
I’m excited. When people ask “What do you want to happen?” I’m like, “I don’t care.” I like playing Nick. I think he’s a really fun character. I will be really sad when I won’t get to play him anymore. I know all the characters. We know all our tones, our comedic rhythms. I like when the [show’s] funny. I don’t necessarily love the melodrama of television at times. I like when there’s just like really good comedic situations. When we’re in an emotional fight on television, I’m, like, “What?”

This interview has been edited and condensed.

Nas’ Baby Mama Carmen Bryan Reportedly Homeless After Child Support Went Deadmatic

Carmen Bryan, Nas’ baby mama, just very well may be the new poster child for the age-old child support debate.

As it stands, her 2007 tell-all book, From Nas to Jay-Z, from Seduction to Scandal–a Hip-Hop Helen of Troy Tells All, is old news and Mona Scott-Young apparently hasn’t worked out a deal beneficial for the both of them.

According to Bossip, Nas’ baby mama hasn’t had a stable living situation since Destiny Jones turned 18-years-old and the child support checks stopped being her backbone.

Reports Bossip:

Nas’s first baby’s mother Carmen Bryan is homeless. Carmen has been homeless since last summer when Nas stop sending her monthly support checks. He continued to send her support checks after their child was eighteen and she believed that he would send them forever since she was the mother of his child. After she decided to put lies out about him on social media he cut her off. She has never spent a dime out of her own pocket to support her daughter because except writing a tell all book, she has not had a J-O-B since giving birth.

She’s been here in Queens all year squatting from house to house telling old stories from the late 90’s. When she wears out her welcome she gets buddy passes to mooch off of people in LA and Atlanta.

Of course, Ms. Carmen Bryan wasn’t about to let the rumors go without a response and she posted this photo to let the world the know she had the rent money if she didn’t have anything to actually rent.

Silento Explains How “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” Went Viral [Exclusive]

You haven’t been able stand two minutes near a computer this year without being subjected to the “Watch Me Nae Nae” song. The viral dance hit (officially titled “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” has been the subject of many YouTube and Vine renditions but only the creator, Silento has the magic ingredient behind the record. At seventeen-years-young, the ATL native already has a gold-selling single and a label deal with Capital Records with nothing but potential ahead.

Now history has shown us that these sort of break-out hits don’t exactly lead to substantial careers but Silento insists that he’s not an one-hit wonder when we grilled him about the notion at the 2015 Bet Awards.

“Before [“Watch Me Nae Nae”], I was making other music; rapping and singing. That’s just the attention track,” a confident Silento tells Hip-Hop Wired. As fate would have it, his claim to fame started by playing around on social media.

“At first…I was having fun at school; just singing out of my mouth. And I recorded for fifteen seconds and put it on my Instagram,” Silento recalled. After getting several hundred comments, his next move could be considered a no-brainer.

“Then from there, I capitalized and made it a song,” he admitted.

Watch our interview with Silento below and buy “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” on iTunes. The recently released official video can be seen below.

Life For A 15-Year-Old After Fight Video Went Viral

Emily, 15, became known as “shovel girl” after a video went viral of her and another teen having a fist fight, until Emily grabbed a shovel and threw it at the other girl’s head. What has life been like for Emily since hundreds of thousands of people watched her throw that shovel?

Emily claims that she’s had more than 2,000 death threats since the video went viral. But she says she wants people to know that she’s not the bully; she’s the victim. “A lot of people were making fun of me on Twitter, calling me names,” the teen tells Dr. Phil. “People threatened to hit me with cars. They said I should get hit by a shovel, because it wasn’t fair to her.” Emily adds that she was nervous to go out in public because of all the hate she had received online. “I can’t talk to anybody about anything, because they say, ‘Are you going to get the shovel?’ Social media has made my life a lot worse,” she says.

Dr. Phil asks Emily why she and the other girl had a fight.

Emily says that they planned the fight via messages to one another on Facebook. “We were just arguing back and forth and eventually, she told me to kill myself,” she claims in the video above.

On the day of the fight, Emily claims the other girl showed up at her house with some of their other friends. “We fought. Then I told her to leave. She said she wasn’t leaving, and I said, ‘I’m just going to shoot you with a BB gun’… I wasn’t really going to shoot her,” Emily says. “She came up behind me. I could see the shovel, and I just picked it up and hit her with it.” The shovel hit the other girl in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground.

Dr. Phil asks Emily’s mom, “You say you’re kind of proud of her because why?”

“I was proud of her because she took up for herself. I wasn’t exactly proud that she used a shovel, but it did get the girl to leave,” she says. “Emily did not want to fight. Emily’s not a fighter.”

Dr. Phil says to Emily, “I noticed when you did hit her with the shovel, she was retreating. She was moving away. So it seems like she was moving away from you, and you weren’t in immediate threat. You had to run after her and throw the shovel to hit her in the back of the head. Why did you hit her with the shovel?”

“I wasn’t really thinking. After everything that happened, my mind went blank,” she says.

“She could have been killed,” Dr. Phil says.

Dr. Phil has a message for bystanders, like the person who filmed Emily’s fight and posted it online. “I think bystanders who do nothing to protect the victims are as guilty as bullies who do the bullying,” he says. “As bystanders, we all have duties and responsibilities, and I would hope that as her mother, you would counsel her about what to do in that kind of situation.”

How Taylor Swift Went from “Tim McGraw” to “Bad Blood”

taylor-swift-singles

For Taylor Swift fans, today is kind of a big deal: On June 19 nine years ago, the now 25-year-old singer released her first single, “Tim McGraw.” Swift was just sixteen when the song came out and it would quickly go on to become a massive success. A year later, she even caught the attention of the titular country star when she was asked to open for him on his nationwide tour with Faith Hill.

Just shy of the ten-year mark of her music career, she’s won countless awards, transcended genres, and even saved a few lives. The normally effusive Swift marked the occasion with a pretty straightforward tweet:

Let’s take a look back at her most notable singles over the past nine years and see her spectacular evolution as an artist and entertainer. Here’s how Taylor Swift went from country princess to “Bad Blood” diva.

1. “Tim McGraw”

Taylor’s first single is an absolute country classic. It’s a song about a lovelorn girl and her favorite songs—a motif that will follow Swift through her career.

2. “Teardrops On My Guitar”

Although “Tim McGraw” was a modest hit, her next single brought her to the national stage. “Teardrops On My Guitar” was a huge single on country and pop radio and catapulted her into a star. The video is quintessential early Swift, blonde curls and all

3. “Love Story”

“Love Story” was the first single from Swift’s second studio album, Fearless. It went eight times platinum and its music video has been watched more than 230 million times. It’s an epic song—those violins!—about true love. What’s not to like?

4. “You Belong With Me”

This song is Swift’s signature underdog song. It was nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2010 and went multi-platinum in the U.S. The song’s video, which shows Swift as the cheer captain, as well as the lonely girl on the bleachers, is iconic and has spawned countless imitators.

5. “Mean”

Taylor picks up the banjo on this song, which takes aim at her toughest critics. It’s a message that has been a huge part of the second half of her career—not listening to any haters. This is Taylor at her most aspirational, while still staying true to her country roots.

6. “Safe & Sound”

This collaboration with the musical duo The Civil Wars landed on the soundtrack for the first Hunger Games movie, and it’s one of Swift’s darkest singles but is still very notable in its own right. It was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and won a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media (Swift’s seventh Grammy Award to date).

7. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

Taylor showed her full pop side with the release of Red in 2012. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was her first number-one single and it’s easy to see why. With an infectious chorus, the single-girl anthem just begs to be sung along to whenever possible.

8. “Shake It Off”

T-Swift’s first single from last year’s 1989 was an instant smash, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for two weeks. If you’ve left your house in the past year, you’ve heard this song at least ten times.

9. “Bad Blood” (ft. Kendrick Lamar)

Taylor’s latest single, which recently hit number one, may end up becoming her first-ever song of the summer. The video for the song, which stars a bunch of her friends like Selena Gomez, Zendaya, and Lena Dunham, set a record for Vevo’s most-watched video in a single day, with 20.1 million views.

Meet The Lovable Couple Who Got Married And Went Viral On The Same Day

A day before their wedding, an emotional video of Kristie Scherrer and Tavis Doucette aging 70 years in six minutes (thanks to makeup and prosthetics) hit the Internet. The collaboration between YouTube channels Cut Video and Field Day quickly became a viral sensation with more than 14 million views.

via Tribune Media

“We realized it was released when we were on our way to our rehearsal,” Scherrer told The Huffington Post. “When we got to the dinner, we told a few of our friends who knew about it that it released and they all admitted that they had seen it. By then the local news had even picked it up. At the wedding everyone had seen it but us. We really wanted to watch it together and there was no time the day of the wedding.”

So 12 hours after their big day, the newlyweds watched the video for the first time at a screening with family and friends. A crew from Field Day was there to capture their tender reactions.

Credit: BuzzFeed via Field Day/YouTube

“Like [Kristie] said in the film, we couldn’t be more sure of the person that we’re with,” a misty-eyed Doucette says after viewing the finished product.

Although you don’t get to see or hear much from the couple’s family in the reaction video, Scherrer told HuffPost that their entire family was “deeply moved” by it.

“We don’t live anywhere close to our family and never have as a couple, so I think it showed them a more intimate side of our relationship than they are used to seeing when we visit,” she said. “They laughed and cried and were really proud of us.”

The adorable couple first met at a cafe on their second day of school at Wagner College back in 2006. They were introduced by a mutual friend and stayed close friends until their senior year, when their friendship blossomed into something more serious.

The couple moved from New York City to Los Angeles last year. Scherrer is an account executive at a marketing firm and Doucette is an actor.

“Which means I am a very experienced bar tender,” he joked.

Doucette and Scherrer said that neither of them anticipated the massive and overwhelmingly positive reception to the original video, but feel honored to have been part of the experience.

“Tavis asked if I cared if he submitted us for it and I said sure,” she said. “We went to the audition during my lunch hour and I really didn’t think anything of it. Then we got cast and started to learn more about the project and who was behind it. The director told us we could ‘expect some people to see it.’ But this kind of reaction, the responses and messages we have received, it’s been incredible.”

Watch their reaction video above. To see more photos from the couple’s wedding and from throughout their relationship, check out the slideshow below.

After Man’s Miserable Vacation Pics Went Viral, He Got A Glorious, Glorious Redo

In March, Kevin Blandford’s employer gave him a free luxury vacation to Puerto Rico. The catch? He couldn’t take his baby for liability reasons, and his wife didn’t want to leave their child.

Blandford took a friend on the trip instead, and documented his sad solitude in an Imgur series called “Not a single second of fun in Puerto Rico” . The gallery went viral with 2.5 million views.

Last week, the Puerto Rico Tourism Agency flew him and his family back to the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa to redo and re-photograph the trip. Blandford brought the same clothes as last time to match the images.

“It was amazing,” Blandford tells The Huffington Post. “My wife had a lot of fun. It was really great.”

It was the couple’s first vacation with their baby, and Blandford recalls “she hated the water when we got off the catamaran into the deep ocean […] But, when we got her into the pool she was splashing and very happy. That was probably my favorite part.”

How One British Designer Went from Central Saint Martins to the Met in 3 Short Years

Craig Green Street Style

London-based Craig Green, categorically speaking, is a menswear designer. He’s a very good menswear designer, having won, for example, the top prize at Central Saint Martins when he graduated in 2012; likewise with sponsorship from Fashion East and Topman soon thereafter and accolades from LVMH in 2014. In fact, he’s so good, that a not insignificant number of female clients have waived patience and retail gender adherence and gone straight to the men’s rails at places like Dover Street Market to purchase his clothes. FKA twigs recently wore Craig Green pants and a kimono jacket during performances at Coachella and in Los Angeles, respectively. (“I actually wanted to make her something—she’s so tiny, I didn’t think samples would fit,” the designer laughs.) Blogger Susie Lau owns Green’s quilted, baggy, daresay shapeless trousers, closured down the outer leg with hockey-lace knotting, at once utilitarian and vaguely meditative in tandem (more on this shortly). And more than a few influential editors were seen wearing Green’s pieces at the fall shows in February. Call it a snowball effect of supreme sartorial benefit, a growing pansexual appeal made all the more real and recognized, as it turns out, by the inclusion of a selection of Green’s spring designs in this summer’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art—clearly, he’s so universally good that the powers that be have determined his work can sit alongside such greats as Jean Paul Gaultier, Tom Ford, and Alexander McQueen. And you can’t get much better than that.

“It’s amazing,” says Green from his studio in East London’s Hackney. “It’s kind of a weird . . . surreal moment, to have my work at the Met.” He then adds, with the sort of self-deprecating humor that makes him evermore likable: “You’re going to see all of these amazing designers, and then there’ll be me on the end.”

Appropriately, iterations of some of his Met inclusions also found their way across the street-style blogs during the collections—variations on a plasticized jacket, a knotted-together hybrid of goalie pads and borderline ecclesiastic austerity. Green has whittled a niche for himself in infusing workwear and day-to-day uniformity with spiritual, or even cultish, overtones. It is a unique formula, and, as he says, it lends itself to being relatively “asexual,” which might explain women getting in on the mix. “Some of it, actually, looks a bit better on girls,” he concedes.

There could be an argument here that links Green to Jonathan Anderson, whose androgynous aesthetic is a defining trait at both his eponymous brand and Loewe, where he is creative director (Anderson recently sported his women’s designs on the cover of Fantastic Man). Or even Alessandro Michele, who’s made a gypsy-gender-blending splash with both his mens- and womenswear debuts at Gucci. But Green retains something different; where there’s a certain louche eroticism with Anderson and Michele, Green’s work is billowing and for the most part unsexy, save, at times, for its barefoot and loose-strung styling.

Green’s other looks in the Met exhibit feature wooden frames with trailing muslin, which, on the runway, wilted and breathed like pennants in a weak wind as the shoeless models moved. (The constructions recall his graduation show from Central Saint Martins, which featured similar appendages.) “Ultimately, it’s about serenity, which I think is also very Eastern,” says Green. Indeed, the Asiatic cues are undeniable—hence the Met nod—but the prevailing idea here is about peacefulness. Green seems to embody chillness in everything he does; and his wearers, boy or girl, appear to take it on as well. In a Zen-like impart, the designer inadvertently makes the wisest point I’ve heard of late, when discussing whether or not to launch a dedicated women’s line: “Once you start something, and it goes well, you can’t stop. But if it doesn’t go well, it’s very hard to do it again.” With that mindset, it’s no wonder we’re seeing—and undoubtedly will continue to see—such strong results time and time again.

18-Year-Old Who Went On The Run With 13-Year-Old Girlfriend: ‘I Knew We Were Going To Get Caught’ (VIDEO)

Dalton Hayes, 18, and his 13-year-old girlfriend made headlines last month when they allegedly embarked on an interstate crime spree, reportedly leaving a trail of chaos in their wake. When the pair left their small, western Kentucky hometown, Dalton was set to appear in court on prior burglary and theft charges — though he denies that is why they left.

Over the next two weeks, authorities allege the young couple forged checks and stole three vehicles — one reportedly with firearms inside — while evading police across the South. They eventually were apprehended by law enforcement in Panama City Beach, Florida, as they slept inside a pickup truck.

In the video above, Dalton shares what happened when the two were caught, and why he believed the day would eventually come. Tune in to Dr. Phil Wednesday for Dr. Phil’s entire interview with Dalton. Check here to see where you can watch.

Jailhouse Interview: Why 18-Year-Old Says He Went On The Run With 13-Year-Old Girlfriend (VIDEO)

Dalton Hayes, 18, and his 13-year-old girlfriend made headlines in January when they allegedly embarked on an interstate crime spree. Dubbed the modern “Bonnie and Clyde” by the media after they left their small, western Kentucky hometown and allegedly evaded police for two weeks, Dalton maintains he only left Kentucky to protect his girlfriend, who he says told him she was being abused at home, an allegation her family absolutely and completely denies.

In the video above, Dalton tells Dr. Phil, “I want people out there to know that I did not do it to hurt her; I did it to keep her safe. Because not only then did I love her, but today, I still love her. I want people to know that I did not do it against her will. I did not force her to leave. She’s the one who said she was running, and I could not let her go by herself.”

Tune into Dr. Phil on Wednesday for his entire interview with Dalton. Check here to see where you can watch.
