Suge Knight is doing right by his late mother even while locked up. The former Death Row exec is paying or her funeral’s costs, despite not being allowed to attend

Reports TMZ:

Sources close to the ex-rap mogul tell TMZ … Suge will fork over around $ 20k to cover the costs associated with burying his mother, Maxine Chatman. TMZ broke the story … Maxine died last weekend after suffering a stroke.

Maxine’s plot — at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA — has already been covered. The funeral service will be held there early next month. As we first reported … Suge’s not allowed to attend the funeral because he’s an inmate who falls under a category that makes him ineligible to attend funerals … that category is murder defendant.

Suge Knight Murder Trial Date Is Set For September

Marion 'Suge' Knight Pretrial Hearing

Source: Frederick M. Brown / Getty

The long-awaited murder trial of Marion “Suge” Knight has been beset with delays but that all changed earlier Monday with the announcement of a trial date. The former Death Row Records mogul will face the court this coming September, which comes some three years after Knight’s legal woes mounted to the current levels.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

The Death Row Records co-founder is accused of intentionally ramming his red Ford F-150 pickup into two men in the parking lot of Tam’s Burgers at Central and East Rosecrans avenues following an argument on the set of the movie “Straight Outta Compton” in January 2015.

Footage from the burger joint’s security camera shows Knight’s truck barreling into Terry Carter, 55, who died, and Cle “Bone” Sloan, who survived. The former rap impresario — who fled the scene but eventually turned himself in — has pleaded not guilty, arguing that he acted in self-defense.

The 53-year-old is also accused in separate cases of robbery and threatening “Straight Outta Compton” director F. Gary Gray.

The outlet adds that Suge Knight’s legal team had shifted along with members of the said team having troubles with the law themselves. This new date comes after trial dates were canceled in January and this month, adding to the delay of the trial moving forward.

The trial takes place on September 24.

Suge Knight Was Hospitalized (Again) Before His Murder Trial Is Set To Begin

Preliminary Hearing For Marion 'Suge' Knight In Robbery Charge Case

Source: David Buchan / Getty

Suge Knight’s post-Death Row Records struggle life continues as the New York Daily News is reporting that the former H.N.I.C. was transferred to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center on Tuesday (April 3) and remained there until Thursday morning.

At a criminal court hearing last month Knight, 52, complained about his deteriorating health with the judge overseeing his murder case offered to sign a medical order submitted by his lawyer. Relatives of Suge told the Daily News that Knight suffered from dangerous blood clots and even had an emergency appendix surgery in March 2016.

Since his arrest for a fatal hit-and-run in 2015, Knight has been rushed to the hospital multiple times by ambulance and this most recent one is just the latest. Knight has pleaded not guilty to the charge insisting he was the victim of an ambush. Suge is currently on his 16th lawyer after his last counsel was hit with accessory to murder charges.

Suge is due back in court on April 23.

Suge Knight’s Fiancee Toi-Lin Kelly Gets 3 Years In Jail For Probation Violation

Source: Richard Sharrocks / Getty

The ongoing saga that is Suge Knight‘s murder case continues to baffle as yet another legal matter directly connected to the former mogul has sprung forth. Toi-Lin Kelly, Knight’s fiancee, was sentenced to three years in jail after violating probation terms that were just set for her last October.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Kelly was sentenced on Friday (Feb. 2) by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Douglas Sortino after discovering the 37-year-old arranged secret interviews with the producers of an upcoming BET documentary, presumably the upcoming Death Row Chronicles series.

Kelly used a private investigator to have the clandestine communication with Knight and despite a tearful plea to the judge, the sentence was handed down without leniency.

The Times reports:

“To me it’s pretty blatant, and frankly, jaw-dropping,” Sortino said, adding that Kelly had basically slapped him in the face after he granted her probation.

Prosecutors last year accused Kelly of selling surveillance footage connected to Knight’s murder trial to the gossip website TMZ for $ 55,000. A judge had previously ordered that the recording not be shared with the media.

In October, Kelly pleaded no contest to conspiring to violate a court order. She was ordered to pay $ 55,000 in restitution, perform 100 hours of community service and serve five years on probation.

Kelly’s sentence is just the latest bizarre legal matter to arise from Knight’s three-year-old murder case. Just last week, attorneys connected to Knight were arrested and then released over concerns they were tampering with the case in their client’s favor although charges were not filed.

Suge Knight’s Girlfriend Charged With Alleged Attempt To Sell Hit-And-Run Tape

Toilin Kelly, the fiancee of former Death Row Records mogul Suge Knight, has been indicted for allegedly attempting to sell the fatal hit-and-run video connected with Knight’s case to TMZ. According to reports, the video of the incident was forbidden from public release due to a court order and Kelly along with another man knew that prior to the sale attempt.

THR reports:

Marion “Suge” Knight’s fiancee is facing prison after allegedly selling TMZ a sealed video connected to the rap mogul’s murder trial for $ 55,000.

Toilin Kelly, along with Knight’s business partner Mark Blankenship, were each indicted July 28 on one count of conspiracy to violate a court order, conspiracy to obstruct justice and conspiracy to commit grand theft, according to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office.

The video shows the deadly 2015 hit-and-run near a Compton burger stand that killed Terry Carter and injured Cle “Bone” Sloan during the production of Straight Outta Compton. Knight is facing both murder and attempted murder charges in connection with the incident.

Kelly pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday (Sept. 13) to counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice, conspiracy to violate a court order, and conspiracy to commit grand theft. Blankenship is facing the same charges but has not yet been arraigned.

Daz Dillinger’s Dogg Pound 4 Life Movie Hits Snag Because Suge Knight

Daz Dillinger‘s ambitions of making a biopic, Dogg Pound 4 Life, just hit a major snag. Suge Knight and others, including record label eOne, want a piece of the action, but the rapper ain’t trying grease their palms.

Reports TMZ:

The DPG vet who’s spearheading the movie broke the bad news to us at LAX. The casting and script are humming along, but Daz says the hangup is maybe the most important part — the music!

You can tell Daz is PISSED — he drops a few profanities — because several parties, including Suge, are trying to block him from using his music in the flick. He insists he owns the rights, and he’s ready to fight for them.

“Dogg Pound 4 Life” would pick up where “Straight Outta Compton” left off … focusing on the rise of Death Row Records, which got folded into eOne Music when Suge had to sell.

And you wonder why the Straight Outta Compton biopic took years to go from idea to reality?

Dr. Dre & Ice Cube Want Off Suge Knight Hit-And-Run Lawsuit

Before Straight Outta Compton rose to a historic box office weekend, there was Suge Knight killing Terry Carter nearby the set of a promotional video spot used to promote the film.

Although N.W.A members Dr. Dre & Ice Cube were on location, they feel their presence did not give just cause to Suge Knight’s behavior and they both have filed motion to get their names removed from the wrongful death lawsuit.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

The lawsuit against those involved with Straight Outta Compton alleges that the defendants should have known about the tensions between Dr. Dre and Knight and should have made security provisions to create a safe environment. It’s also alleged that Dr. Dre and Cube are vicariously liable for Sloan’s conduct.

In a demurrer filed last week, Dr. Dre and Cube say they committed no malfeasance, that their only affirmative act was a “specific request” that Sloan direct Knight to leave camp. This, they say, “did not create undue risks for anyone, let alone Carter.”

The two also say they owed no duty to Carter, that Knight’s assault wasn’t foreseeable, and raise the prospect of what might have happened if they allowed Knight to stay at base camp.

According to their motion, “These allegations plainly demonstrate that allowing Suge to remain at the base camp posed a serious risk that Suge could have injured someone at the camp — including Dr. Dre, Bone or one of the numerous cast and crew working on the film. Certainly, the risk that Suge might leave the base camp and proceed to his fatal confrontation with Carter was no more foreseeable than the possibility that Suge would injure or kill someone else if he had been permitted to stay.”

The former N.W.A members represented by attorney Alexander Cote say that there’s no proximate cause connecting their actions to Carter’s fatality, and argue that public policy and common sense can’t possibly demand “tolerating the presence of a dangerous and violent criminal with a grudge.”

Suge Knight is currently awaiting trial for murder of Carter and attempted murder of Sloan.

Is Suge Knight Extorting A Night Club Maestro?

Just when you thought getting shot multiple times would soften Suge up, here are new rumors about the former Death Row Don.

The Los Angeles Times has published a report that Suge is extorting a Los Vegas Night Club owner, Sam Nazarian. Suge has yet to comment, but the allegations are pretty hefty. Peep what they stated:

The board’s routine vetting of Nazarian, who applied for a gaming license, has now thrown his Vegas plans into disarray. Investigators unearthed recent cocaine use — along with about $ 3 million in payments to a felon with convictions for drug possession and money laundering. Some of the money was paid to a convicted racketeer and Death Row Records founder Suge Knight.

The payments included $ 90,000 to Knight and $ 83,000 to Hai Waknine, the convicted racketeer — both of whom, Nazarian told the board, were working with Armstrong.

Waknine served five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of racketeering in connection with a money-laundering scheme linked to Israeli organized crime. Waknine could not be reached for comment.

“So roughly $ 3 million in monies … were paid either to Mr. Armstrong or to others, I guess it would be fair to say, in connection with Mr. Armstrong?” board member Johnson asked Nazarian during the hearing.

“It would be fair to say,” Nazarian answered

Knight declined to comment. But a business associate, entertainment producer Mark Blankenship, called the charges of extortion “a form of profiling and racism.
